Cliff is an artist who creates spectacularly detailed images of a wide range of scenes and subjects using the art of collage. While that might not be unusual, the medium in which Cliff works certainly is because Cliff's artwork consists of intricate mosaics made entirely of small paned sections of discolored, resin-drenched roach papers. Vivian and Cliff discuss the origins of Cliff's amazing roach paper art and how he produces his stunning spliff wrap creations.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In today's episode we're chatting with cut paper artist Maude White to learn more about her background, inspiration and what's included in her curated kit. We learn more about the history and background of cut paper art from around the world. The art of paper cutting is incredibly diverse and has been practiced for a very long time: It first originated in the 4th century CE in China during the Han Dynasty. In the 13th century it came to Europe via Germany and Switzerland with folded scherenschnitte and silhouette art. In Japan, people create kirigami, which is cut and folded paper art. In Mexico, people create papel picado, which is folded colored tissue paper that is cut with scissors. We can't wait to share Maude's own unique technique (utilizing a sharp blade to 'slice' rather than scissors to cut) in our upcoming workshop. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel the world... To play the “nomad game”...  Seeing different sights and experiencing different cultures of people living in foreign countries? Have you ever wondered how an experience like that could change your perception of life – or even how it could inspire you to create and run a business? My guest today is Alexandra (Alex) Matthews, owner of the Etsy shop . Alex had the opportunity to travel the world at a fairly young age – fresh out of college and she has seen the beautiful landscapes and inspirational cultures throughout New Zealand, Australia, Bali, as well as Europe. Although Alex had an Etsy shop before she decided to see the world, it was after she returned from living the dream life of an explorer that she hunkered down and focused on growing her business. In her Etsy shop , Alex creates and sells beautifully hand-crafted state maps, greeting cards, and illustrations. She shares her journey with me, from touring the world to re-designing her shop and website, as well as what techniques she uses – both online and offline – to grow her business and get her name out there. Alex has a unique view of business, life, and the world in general. Through her traveling experiences, she has found the inspiration she needs to continue creating. Although, like many creative entrepreneurs, she admits to sometimes feeling isolated, she shares how she overcomes that feeling of isolation feeling. We also discuss how she manages her time between working full-time in marketing for a home building company while running a successful business. Alex's story is truly inspirational! Neuroaesthetics | Symposium Symposium im ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, 22.-24. November 2012 In Kooperation und mit Unterstützung der Gemeinnützigen Hertie-Stiftung. Helga Griffiths has been working for over 20 years on the integration of various sensory stimuli into her multi-sense installations. With reference to several practical examples (one of which ‒ the animated video Brainscape ‒ will be shown during the conference), she illustrates some of the advantages, but also some of the difficulties that she has encountered in this approach. A successful experience space as she terms it, enables the percipient to immerse him- or herself in a multi-dimensional sensory space and experience memories, emotions and ideas that originate from, but at the same time are not necessarily identical to, the memories, emotions and ideas of the artist. Typical of Griffiths’ work is her technique of taking sensory information received through one sense (e.g. sight or sound) and transforming it into another, such as odor, in order to communicate with the percipient at a more direct, intuitive level and enable the sensory immersion experience to transcend conventional boundaries of perception. Helga Griffiths is a Multi-Sense-Artist working at the intersection of science and art. She holds a B.F.A. from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and from 1992–1994 completed her postgraduate studies at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. In 1994 she continued with further studies in New Media at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. She received several awards such as the first prize at “Kunst auf Zeit” in Graz, an “Honorable Mention” at the International Biennale of Paper Art in Düren, the “Lichtenberg”- Award (all in 1998), and the first prize at “LichtRouten”- festival in Lüdenscheid in 2003. She received grants for artist residencies at Cité Internationale des Arts Paris in 2001 and an NEA grant at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in Puerto Rico in 2004. Her work is in permanent collections such as the TBA TV Station in Tokyo, Deutsches Hygiene-Museum, Dresden, or the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum in Düren, Germany. She has exhibited her multi-sense-installations at several biennials such as Cairo Biennale, Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale in Japan, Havanna Biennial, and Seoul International Media Art Biennale. Her work has been shown in international museum exhibitions like the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn; Artificial Light in Art Centre, Eindhoven; Kunsthalle Kiel, Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Oslo; Upper Austrian Culture Quarter, Linz, and at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
