In this episode, Chris Pugh explores major shifts and lasting legacies in the world of sports leadership, focusing on two of the most respected figures in coaching: Gregg Popovich and Mike Tomlin.Gregg Popovich, the legendary head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is making a historic move from the sidelines to the front office. After over two decades of excellence, including multiple NBA championships and a reputation for molding both players and character, Popovich will now serve as the president of basketball operations for the Spurs. His coaching resume includes guiding iconic players like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginóbili, and Tony Parker, building one of the most respected dynasties in modern sports.Popovich's leadership style—marked by intelligence, accountability, and a strong team-first mentality—has influenced not just players, but fellow coaches across the league. As he steps away from day-to-day coaching, he hands the reins to Mitch Johnson, a young and rising star within the Spurs organization. Pugh breaks down why Johnson's promotion signals continuity and evolution for the franchise. From the hardwood to the gridiron, Chris shifts focus to the NFL and the Pittsburgh Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin. While Popovich transitions to a new role, Tomlin remains a pillar of consistency. Entering his 18th season as head coach, Tomlin has never had a losing season—an astounding feat in the modern NFL. Chris discusses the pressures Tomlin faces with a new quarterback era looming and reflects on how rare his longevity is in today's sports culture, where turnover is constant and results are demanded immediately. The podcast concludes with a heartfelt tribute to retired Steelers linebacker L.J. Fort. Chris honors Iman's contributions to the team and the impact he made both on and off the field, offering a reminder of the deeper legacy that players leave behind beyond statistics.Listeners are encouraged to share their thoughts on Popovich's transition, Tomlin's remarkable consistency, and Iman's legacy. Whether you're a basketball die-hard, a Steelers fan, or just love compelling sports stories, this episode offers insight, nostalgia, and conversation about leadership, change, and perseverance.Don't forget to subscribe, leave a review, and join the conversation across social media.

We start out the bonus show this week with a topic about floor generals, with a question centered on Chris Paul and other standout players like Rajon Rondo, Kyle Lowry, and Tony Parker. Despite Chris Paul frequently dominating such lists, Rob made a surprising nod to Rondo, highlighting his exceptional court vision and ability to facilitate plays, likening Rondo's significant impact during his Boston Celtics days as part of a "big four."   We then turn the focus to contemporary stars, sparked by Jeff Teague’s rankings on the Club 250 Podcast. His top picks included Nikola Jokic, Jason Tatum, Luka Dončić, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This assembly fostered a debate, particularly about Luka's defense, with Rob pointing out the importance of two-way play—a relentless topic in basketball circles about offensive and defensive proficiency. Plus we get into others deserving mention, like Donovan Mitchell and the ageless LeBron James, who continues to impress with his performance at nearly 40 years old. Rob reserved particular praise for Mitchell, noting his all-around game and contributions to his team’s success.   We close it out with frequently quoted favorite films. Blending humor with nostalgia, the co-hosts shared lines from “Tommy Boy,” “Friday,” and “Talladega Nights,” underscoring how these movies remain entrenched in cultural memory. Such discussions illustrate how sports and popular culture often intertwine, offering listeners both laughter and a break from intense sports debates.   00:00 Introduction and Episode Overview 00:35 Debating the Best Floor Generals 03:08 Rondo vs. Ben Simmons: A Shooting Comparison 04:51 Jeff Teague's Top Four NBA Players 05:51 Discussing the Term 'Two-Way Player' 07:44 Top Four NBA Players: Personal Picks 12:05 The Tush Push Controversy in the NFL 14:09 The Controversial Tush Push Play 14:36 Defending Against Running Quarterbacks 15:27 LeBron and Brian Windhorst Relationship 16:24 Annoying TV Personalities 17:43 The Mindset of Athletes 20:32 Favorite Sports Reporters and Announcers 21:50 Most Quoted Movies 23:32 Friday Movie Quotes 25:26 Remembering John Witherspoon

Bouncer union unit! To the best of my knowledge, this is the second time we've hosted a former bouncer on the show. It's not something I normally get to discuss and definitely the first time I've ever gotten to ask the question, "What was your Marvel bouncer personality?" But this isn't a podcast about bouncing, it's actually all about one of my favorite graphic novels of 2024, it's just that bouncing actually can be applied to the book. That book is Medusa from Dark Horse Comics created by writer/illustrator Tony Parker who is today's show guest. If you aren't yet familiar with the project, it's one of the most creative reimaginings of Greek mythology I've ever seen. Show topics include the unique character designs of a silent protagonist, collaborating with colorist extraordinaire Tamra Bonvillain, and the use of pacing and kinesics in storytelling which is something I've been increasingly mindful of in the medium. From the publisher Everything you know about Medusa is a lie. Forever cursed to be remembered as a monster, this ageless yet very mortal hero has spent millennia saving humanity from the horrors of legend. Francia hoy

We open the show this week with Rob’s stories about Bobbleheads that do NOT look like him, after his wife confused his bobblehead for Tony Parker, and how he often gets mistaken for Alonzo Mourning and Horace Grant when out in public at times. It takes us down a wild road about NBA bobbles and statues that don’t look anything like the guys they are modeled after, specifically the tribute to Shaq’s LA statue.   Rob gets into the D-Lo situation with the Lakers, and why JJ decided to bench him, and why he immediately started performing better coming off the bench. We also dive into the rumors that DeAngelo will be used to make a move for another big like Brooke Lopez, and Rob says that as long as AD is healthy he doesn’t think the Lakers need another big. And we try to figure out why AD continues to shy away from wearing goggles, after getting popped in the eye the other night.   Plus the Giannis versus Jaylen Brown saga this week was confusing to us, as Giannis said he doesn’t want to be anyone’s friend but then plays games with guys on the court and is somehow surprised that guys don’t find that cute. B-Dog also lays out the trade scenarios for Dame Lillard to go to the Lakers, which would be so lopsided it would be comical. And the Cavaliers are showing the league just how talented they are, from Donovan Mitchell, to Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, they are deep and talented and play great defense… all leading to an impressive, unbeaten start to the season. Plus the conversation about Chet Holmgren’s injury leads into Victor Wembanyama – “the Skinny Committee” – and whether guys who don’t carry much weight can still be offensive dominators in the NBA.   There is SO much great audio this week, including a check-in on the Draymond Green technical counter, audio from the cockpit during the Auburn basketball team fight that forced the plane to turn around this weekend, the hilarious and amazing Michelle Beadle Nuggets flub, and Pat McAfee leading the wild LSU fans into cursing on live TV! And the audio of Saints coach Darren Rizzi saying he clogged the toilet in the coach’s office on his first day takes us into a conversation about clogging the toilet at other people’s homes. We also give out a Big Shot of the Week to a Texas firefighter who pulled a toddler out of the second story window of a burning building, and play a classic round of Shot Clock that, as always, ends in controversy.
