"Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" is a sitcom that aired from 2012 to 2013. The show follows the life of June (Dreama Walker), a Midwestern girl who moves to New York City for her dream job, only to have her life turned upside down when said job falls through. She finds herself living with Chloe (Krysten Ritter), a wild, con-artist who thrives on creating chaos and exploiting others for personal gain. The show also features James Van Der Beek, playing a fictionalized version of himself, who is Chloe's best friend and confidant. "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23" received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. After two seasons the show was canceled due to scheduling issues and its niche appeal. Despite that, the show still has a loyal cult following. Will the S1E1 boys be joining that group? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode. Starring: Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker, Eric André, Liza Lapira, Michael Blaiklock, Tate Ellington, Eve Gordon, Peter Mackenzie, & James Van Der Beek www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD
"Herman's Head" was a sitcom that aired on the Fox network from 1991-1994. The show had unique concept, revolving around the inner thoughts and emotions of its protagonist, Herman Brooks (William Ragsdale), but here those thoughts and emotions were portrayed by 4 different characters that resided inside Herman's mind. Throughout its run, Herman navigated through various romantic relationships, friendships, and workplace scenarios, with his internal voices often providing conflicting advice and commentary. If you hear a couple familiar voices when Herman is at the office it's because two of his co-workers are played by long running Simpsons voice actors, Yeardley Smith (Lisa Simpson) & Hank Azaria (Moe, Apu, Chief Wiggum, etc). Despite its innovative concept and initial critical acclaim, "Herman's Head" faced challenges with inconsistent scheduling and changes in time slots, which led to fluctuations in viewership. After three seasons and 72 episodes, the show was ultimately canceled in April 1994. Will the S1E1 guys enjoy watching this somewhat forgotten '90s classic? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode and find out. Starring: William Ragsdale, Hank Azaria, Jane Sibbett, Yeardley Smith, Molly Hagan, Ken Hudson Campbell Rick Lawless, Peter MacKenzie, Jason Bernard, Edward Winter, & Corinne Bohrer www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD

This week Val and Rachel discuss the pilot of Herman's Head, an American sitcom that aired on the Fox network from September 8, 1991 until April 21, 1994. The series was created by Andy Guerdat and Steve Kreinberg, and produced by Witt/Thomas Productions in association with Touchstone Television. William Ragsdale stars as the title character, Herman Brooks. Herman's thought processes are dramatized in a "Greek chorus"-style interpretation, with four characters representing different aspects of his personality (played by Molly Hagan, Ken Hudson Campbell, Rick Lawless and Peter MacKenzie). Hot topics include: 1.) We pop our cherry with our first FOX show, and discuss the differences between FOX and the other networks (ie: FOX is dirt-ay!!!!) 2.) What emotions might there be in Val and Rachel's heads? 3.) Rachel's Acting Retirement Plan Revealed 4.) These two horndogs drool over Evan Peters and Alan Rickman. 5.) Peter Mackenzie, as you may be aware, is currently a cast member on ABC’s black-ish, and once you listen to this episode, you’ll be so happy for him that he is, because our last few topics of conversation would have you believe that most of the man’s career has involved working on pilots that never got picked up. In fact, he’s been in a lot of great stuff over the years, including films like Trumbo, 42, One Hour Photo, and Lorenzo’s Oil, not to mention more TV series than you can shake a stick at. I also must give all due credit for Peter’s appearance on the show to Michael Price (The Simpsons, F Is for Family), who recommended that I invite him on. They worked together on Homeboys from Outer Space, you know. And, yes, of course we talked about that.
Peter Mackenzie. Peter has been in “Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23,” “Mad Men,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He was also in the films “It’s Complicated,” “One Hour Photo,” and “Good Morning, Viet Nam.”
