Beneath a pitiless New Mexico sky, a young outlaw rides into the dead man's country and finds something far worse than the law waiting for him there. In this brutal, slow-burning descent into western horror, D.R. "By age 40, one in five women has dealt with an eating disorder—twice the rate we see by age 21." – Harvard UniversityWhile society often frames eating disorders as a struggle for teenagers, the reality is that women in midlife are increasingly vulnerable. In this episode, Dr. Rachel Pope addresses the "silent epidemic" affecting millions of women as they navigate the convergence of hormonal shifts, body image pressures, and life transitions. As we continue our New Year's series on weight management and GLP-1 medications, Dr. Pope is joined by internationally recognized expert Dr. Lucene Wisniewski. Together, they discuss the thin line between a healthy focus on nutrition and the onset of disordered eating. Why do perimenopause and menopause create a "biological window of risk"? How do we distinguish between "discipline" and "obsession"?Dr. Lucene Wisniewski, PhD, FAED, is a leader in eating disorder treatment and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with nearly 30 years of experience. She provides a compassionate, evidence-based look at how women can protect their mental health while pursuing physical wellness. In this episode, we discuss: The Hormonal Connection: Why the menopause transition is a high-risk period for both relapses and "de novo" (new) eating disorders. Effective vs. Rigid Eating: Moving away from black-and-white "food rules" toward a flexible, social, and balanced relationship with fuel. Red Flags in Midlife: How to identify signs of preoccupation, body checking, and the moralization of food. The "Binge-Restrict" Cycle: Why "not eating" is often the biggest trigger for out-of-control eating. Tracking Apps & Tech: When tools like macro-trackers stop being helpful and start becoming a "life stance." Nashville woke up to the strangest Christmas soundtrack imaginable in 2020: an RV parked on 2nd Avenue, a calm recorded warning to evacuate… and “Downtown” playing like a twisted holiday playlist no one asked for. We are going to walk through the accepted timeline of the Christmas Day bombing, what investigators say happened, and what the FBI concluded about the man behind it.Then we follow the story into the weird side streets, where reality starts to bend. Reincarnation loops. “High energy events.” Alleged reptilian watchers in the woods. A camping trip that turned into a front-row seat to paranoia, strange gear, and a belief that something evil was hiding in plain sight. We'll separate confirmed facts from internet fog, explore what fringe and UFO circles claim it all really meant, and bring it home with the uncomfortable truth: sometimes the most unsettling part isn't the conspiracy… it's how fast a mind can build one when everything else is falling apart. Dr. Thomas Wisniewski, Director of NYU Langone's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, shares insights from a recent study that projects new dementia cases in the US will double by 2060. New diagnostic tools have made it easier to identify early signs of Alzheimer's, and disease-modifying therapies are being approved, which can be effective if patients are treated in the earliest stages of the disease. AI is seen as a tool to help identify at-risk patients and routinely screen patients to manage the growing need for access to dementia care. Thomas explains, "This was a study that was led by the NY Optimal Institute, which is directed by Dr. Joe Resh, who's really a leader in this area and many public health issues. He did a very thorough analysis along with his team that the annual number of incident dementia cases in the United States is projected to increase from current estimates of 500,000 to around 1 million in 2060. So basically doubling in white adults. Furthermore, in African Americans, this incidence of dementia rate is expected to triple, with the largest absolute increases in dementia cases going to be in the oldest old population." "There was perhaps a lack of awareness of the prevalence of dementia in past decades. But now the importance of making an accurate diagnosis and recognition of dementia is becoming much more prominent in the medical literature and in the medical profession. And that message, I think, is permeating to the lay public as well. So there hasn't been a change in the definition so much, but there is an increase in knowledge in the medical profession about the importance of making this diagnosis, and people living alone." "It's really been a dramatic change. So, apart from being a cognitive neurologist, I'm also a board-certified neuropathologist, and it used to be that making the definitive diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease required a chunk of brain. I'm delighted I don't need those chunks of brain anymore to make a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. There are now very clear clinical criteria and biomarker definitions for making a very accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease." #NYULangoneAlzheimers #AlzheimersDisease #DiagnosingAlzheimers #AlzheimersResearch #MedAI med.nyu/centers-programs/alzheimers-disease-research/ Download the transcript here

Send us a textEddie Hochman, Bennett Shapiro, Michael Schodin, and Mitchell Wisniewski all met during their time at the University of Iowa. They started informally jamming and playing shows together throughout college, but by graduation, they started going their separate ways. While Hochman and Schodin stayed in Iowa City, Mitch moved to Michigan, and Bennett moved to Denver, where he still lives today. However, that didn't stop the friend from performing; the group has made an annual tradition to travel together and play shows, forming an official band, Joytrip.Over the last couple of years, the group has been able to hone its sound and writing despite its distance. The wide-ranging influences of the group, from jazz to rock to blues to bluegrass, contribute to a singular sound and chemistry that allows the band to jump into a full night's show even after not performing together for months. The band's lineup has remained unchanged from the start. Schodin plays guitar, sings, and serves as the audio engineer, Hochman plays guitar, trumpet, and keyboards as well as sings, Shapiro plays drums and sings harmonies, and Wisniewski plays bass for the band.
