Jimmy & Fenners are back at FCB HQ to interview for one of the most important jobs in football - the kit man! In the hotseat today is former Fulham kit man - Pudsey Bevan. A man of many talents, including starring as Pudsey the bear in Children in Need for many years, Pudsey has some great stories about running a secret bar at Craven Cottage, serving Sir Alex Ferguson knock-off wine and picking up players' pants. As well as Fulham and Birmingham City, Pudsey has also worked for Wasps so is able to answer the age-old question; who needs looking after the most, footballers or rugby players? On the subject of kits, we know a lot of you have been asking about the FC Bullard shirt… watch this space. Enjoyed listening to the episode? Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.This time, in a special festive edition, Tim, Bob Fischer and Georgy Jamieson are all crowding into a paper chain-strewn local radio studio ready to take your calls and chat about some of the signs that Christmas was coming that you just don't seem to get any more. So that's Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson being used to back every single local news feature, School Christmas Fairs, weird decorations that were still in use long past their cultural sell-by date, Advent Calendars with no chocolate but plenty of pictures of Shepherds sort of leaning sideways a bit, the toy pages in 'The Catalogue', the bitter rivalry between the Christmas double issues of Radio Times and TV Times, Channel 4 flinging out angular festive fare like Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, festive replacements for the BBC Globe, The Middlesborough Methodist Tableau and much more besides. In a crammed Christmas Cracker of chat we'll be debating the physics of those big televisions with shutters on them, stressing the need for a Loose Cannon reconstruction of Bob's drawing of a Lord 'a'Leaping', attempting to beat Carol Vorderman at Yuletide Maths, deploring the steady stream of one-shoed shoplifters hopping out of Bobby Cannon's, refuting any and every suggestion that clowns have any business being anywhere near anything to do with Christmas, exploring the financial potential of an Advent Calendar with Willie Rushton behind every single door and querying the value of using Rentaghost as a sort of all-purpose philosophical yardstick. Call in and donate some 'Canned Goods' now!You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. RETRO RHLSTP #65 - Brian Blessed and the Big FootIt's the final episode of series 10 of RHLSTP and Rich meets a bearded man who has managed to find a partner (find out how he did it nerds). His guest is the laid-back and yet also intense (and rather beautiful) Peter Serafinowicz. They talk about how it's almost impossible to parody the new President of the United States, but the effective way that Peter managed it and his fears and plans should there be repercussions from the thin-skinned bellend. Also lots of chats about the two Brian Bs (Blessed and Butterfield) and how a stellar cast does not always lead to a commission. Plus behind the scenes at Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation and the Pudsey the Dog movie. Incredibly Adam Sandler's “The Cobbler” and the strange ego of Mr Tumble come up without Richard even mentioning them. *Some audio issues as this was a live recording*In this episode, I sat down with an old friend to talk about his experiences joining a fun youth group that had a darker, religious underbelly that would land Sam in a coercive environment, rife with spiritual abuse. I have known Sam for over a decade and we have shared a lot of time together, travelled Europe together and completed a BA(Hons) Degree with one another. Never did I think he had been through something like this. This is a testament to how every day people all around us can be coerced into an abusive group.Watch the live chat back here - https://youtu.be/-ngMmHJr3N4Get in Touch or Support -Patreon - patreon.com/thecultvaultCult Vault Shop - cultvaultpodcast.com/shopCrimecon UK 2022 - https://www.crimecon.co.uk/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cultvaultpod/Twitter: https://twitter.com/CultVaultPodReddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/Cult-VaultGmail: cultvaultpodcast@gmail.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/cultvaultpodcast/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The Untold
Trouble at the Barbers

The Untold

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2022 27:25

The covid-19 lockdowns were brutal for small businesses. They were particularly tough for barbers. In an industry when getting up-close and personal is the only way to get the job done, the business of hair-cutting was simply unworkable. Phil, a barber in Pudsey, West Yorkshire, knows that the gentleman's shaves, haircuts, skin-fades and beard-trims he offers can be so much more than just personal grooming - they can be a much needed self-esteem boost, a chance to chat to a sympathetic ear, or a moment of peace on a tough day. In March 2020, finding himself shut down like the rest of the industry, Phil was keen to find a way to stay connected to his customers, haircuts or no haircuts. He took to facebook and - reluctantly at first - started hosting live chat sessions... just a chance to connect, chill out and have a chat. As the world went in, then out, then back in to successive waves of lockdowns, Phil felt he was making it work. Weathering the storm, and making the best of a bad situation. But June 2021 was to bring a shock that no-one could have predicted, and which might just be the final straw. Produced in Bristol by Emily Knight
