Today we're joined by Rosie Platt, Head of Range & Ecommerce at NOTH. Rosie has a huge amount of retail buying experience working for a wide variety of UK retailers, including Principles, Debenhams, Oasis, Jaeger, River Island, BBC Children in Need and Superdrug. Rosie is a product development buyer at heart, like ourselves. We find out how Rosie got into buying, from taking an online quiz to figure out what she might be interested in, to how she landed her first job at Principles and the journey she's been on working in very different buying environments. We hear all about the skills she picked up along the way from fast paced high street fashion, high end fashion shows, the charity sector (all those Pudsey bears!) to marketplace buying. This is a huge episode packed with so many different brands, sharing experiences of what is it REALLY like to work for all these large retailers, and also a sneak peak for retail businesses to understand what goes on behind the scenes. Rosie describes behind the scene of working at NOTHS from her 8 years experience of onboarding and coaching small product based businesses. Plus she shares her top tips for small businesses looking to partner, or get stocked in a retailer. We ask; what makes a good pitch? Do you need to send samples? What are the key metrics you should be sharing? This is a must listen episode for any brands wanting some valuable tips on what makes for a great pitch and what market places like NOTH are really looking for. If your a buyer this episode will feel very relatable as we are sure that in Rosies varied career she will touch upon a situation you most likely will of been in and gives her experience and advice on how to get through it.Our takeaways for this episode are:- Take a break when you feel close to burn out, it will reframe your perspective. Sometime a side step move is more in keeping with your values and ultimately your happiness. Note: you don't always have to push yourself onto the next thing. Often these breaks still lead you back to climbing the ladder for promotion, so whats the rush?!- A coaching management style is incredible rewarding - on both sides! It gets the best out of your team by calling out where improvements can be made sharing ways to improve. It might feel a bit uncomfortable at first to get feedback, but it will help your development, and remember it comes from a caring place. - It's so great to see brands moving at a slower pace and being much more conscious of supply chain. Yes there are numbers to hit, and these are essential to stay afloat, but let's re-frame the way we look at the product and the numbers in a more holistic way, to enable long term growth. If Brands have this at the heart of the business, then customers can buy with a clean conscious. We need to lead the way.You heard it first hand from Rosie that by 2030 70% of all sales will be on marketplaces... Are you retail ready? Christian Zyp interviews Morgan Evans (director/writer) and Patrick Noth (actor/writer) abou their film MICRO BUDGET. See it as part of NorthWest Film Fest Saturday May 10th at 9:30 pm at the Metro Cinema. MICRO BUDGET revolves around wannabe filmmaker Terry (Patrick Noth) on the cusp of discovering he's about to be a father. So, he does what any other sane person would do. He moves himself and his nine-month pregnant wife from Iowa to Los Angeles to shoot a low-budget indie movie and sell it to a streamer for a "f**k-ton of money." Documented by his cousin Devin's behind-the-scenes camera crew, Terry suddenly finds that his beliefs about diversity, the #MeToo movement, and what technically qualifies as an adequately financed film production put him at odds with anyone who meets him. This mockumentary features Bobby Moynihan, Chris Parnell, Maria Bamford, Carla Jimenez, Nichole Sakura and a very special cameo.INSTAGRAM @microbudgetmoviehttps://www.microbudgetmovie.com/THREADS @microbudgetmovie

Juliane Noth's Transmedial Landscapes and Modern Chinese Paintings, coming very soon from the Harvard University Asia Center (2022), tracks a relatively short but transformative period in ink painting that coincides with the Nanjing Decade, 1927-1937. In the book, Noth considers how artists negotiated the continuing relevance and development of a form that came to be defined as guohua, or “national painting,” vis a vis the introduction of photography and new (print) technologies. She argues that their theoretical writings and painting practice, far from statically embracing “tradition,” brimmed with the tension between cosmopolitanism and cultural defense. The artists considered in the book reinterpreted Chinese art history in relation to Western developmental models and technologies while maintaining an active formal conversation with literati painting traditions. The emergence of what Noth theorizes as “transmedial” landscapes was also strongly intertwined with state rail and road infrastructure projects and the development of a modern travel industry. Join us in our discussion to hear more of the nuance and complexity with which Prof. Noth analyzes this transformative period in Chinese visual culture. It's that time of year to make some hay for the winter so we thought it would be a good idea to get into the weeds of making hay on a small-scale traditionally by hand. This episode is for all the folks who don't have the land or tractor to make hay on a larger scale, but want to mow their lawns, fields or meadows to make hay or bedding for their animals. In this episode, you can learn about different types of grass hay, alfalfa hay & tree hay for nutrients for livestock and of course, the methods of taking up a scythe and learning one of man's oldest agricultural arts: cutting hay by hand and storing it loose for the winter. Hear from folks like Anarchy Acres, Jim Kovaleski, Tap o' Noth Permaculture Farm & more. Hope you enjoy!"Let us make hay while the sun shines." - Proverb"If I'm honest, the thing I am proudest of is my varieties of wild flowers in the hay meadow." - Monty Don"A Song of the good green grass! A song no more of the city streets; A song of farms - a song of the soil of fields. A song with the smell of sun-dried hay, where the nimble pitchers handle the pitch-fork; A song tasting of new wheat, and of fresh-husk'd maize." - Walt WhitmanLearn more about this episode, watch the videos and read the show notes on this episode here >- - -Disclaimer: This is another episode exploring different themes in Permaculture and related fields with audio clips, interviews & anything else we can find. What if food holds the power to dissolve the barriers that divide us? Meet Vin Noth, the Executive Director of Milwaukee's Riverwest Food Pantry. Like all cities, Milwaukee has its cracks such as segregation, isolation, and systemic poverty. The Riverwest Food Pantry is finding gold in these cracks - bringing people of all backgrounds together into radical kinship, friendship, and mentoring, all through the power of food. When you visit this place, you can't tell who's a shopper or who's a volunteer. You'll be surprised by the gift you have to give and the gift you're meant to receive. And it'll wreck you in the most beautiful way. We talk to Vin about finding gold in the cracks of the city and his life, particularly in his background in the arts and acting. It turns out that the greatest gifts we have to give often rhyme with our deepest pain. When you find gold in the cracks, it takes the same shape as the crack. Hosted by Dave Kang and T.J. Berden. Produced by Sam Buti.
This film is... surreal. Is it even a film? I mean it's on the telly, under the category "film", but is it? There are arguments and New York and lesbians and priests and baubles and car crashes and angels and dogs and I don't even know anymore. This film is so fucking boring. Our podcast isn't though and it's fair to say we eviscerate it.Also available as a YouTube videoSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/bookofnowt)

Welcome to our highly anticipated NFC North Preview and Prediction Show: Brad Hoiseth from JCGridiron joins me for an in-depth discussion of the Noth. Aaron Rodgers must be so mad, The Vikings have O-line issues and lack depth at WR. For some reason, Hoiseth likes the Lions and the Bears are a predictable mess because of their QB situation. We revisit Tom's mom's obsession with everything Wu-Tang. Christina fixates on why she routinely tortures herself with caffeine and toothbrushes, while Tom does the same with his fingers. We discuss our desire for a psychologist to analyze comedic podcasters, play some of our new faves in REAL TALK, and finally introduce you to Christina's father with some primo audio! Be Her!
