Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-90-tim-jonesPodcast episode #90 is the first of our Manchester special and features the charming and uber-talented Tim Jones. Tim has an incredible track record when it comes to OOH, both from his time at BBC Creative and more recently at Meanwhile, the agency he set up with long term creative partner James Cross and Al Marchant.Meanwhile have enjoyed great success since launch in 2022, thanks not just to their creative work, but savvy association with Bez of the Happy Mondays, himself an icon of the North West. It's no surprise Meanwhile were Campaign's Start Up Agency of 2023.We discussed Tim's extensive OOH portfolio, including the 7m tapestry for the BBC World Cup in Russia which formed the centre pice of the History Will Be Made campaign and was meant to have an additional segment, allowing for the next bit of history. Tim told us how he was prepping the new piece to incorporate Harry Kane lifting the trophy. Oh Lord. How many years of hurt?! Too much. Anyway, it wasn't meant to be, but a brilliant story about what goes on behind the tapestry. Then there was the Netflix Diamond Heist and how Meanwhile placed a 9-carat diamond onto the side of a billboard.Next Travel Supermarket with a vertical stack of inflatables in a shopping trolley on the side of a building. How will they stay up? What happens if a member of the public throws darts at them? And a million and one other daft questions that have to be answered in order to get creative work to run.On and on the stories went, the Manchester tram that toots the theme tune of Coronation Street, the BAFTA winning work for BBC Tokyo Olympics, the award-winning launch work for Chester Zoo, the iconic Park Run work for Mental health Day.Thank you Tim. It was a total pleasure. We can't wait to see what you and Meanwhile do next.
Our latest Island Influencer episode is a first for us—and a very special one. It's not often we get the chance to welcome a mother and daughter together, but we felt this was a truly lovely combination. Their intertwined stories deserve to be heard in tandem. You'll meet Sarah Jarvis, who built a successful career in marketing before life threw her a devastating curveball—stage three ovarian cancer, forcing an unexpected and early retirement at age 58. Since then, Sarah has become a passionate advocate for raising awareness of ovarian cancer while navigating life with an incurable illness. You'll also hear from Dr Rachel Jarvis Martin, Sarah's daughter, whose deep love of nature began in childhood on the Isle of Man. Rachel's career has taken her from studying chimpanzees and elephants at Chester Zoo, to working on conservation projects in South America, to completing a PhD researching heart disease in great apes. When her mum was diagnosed, Rachel paused her PhD to come home, ultimately rethinking her own future in light of what truly mattered. Now an Education Officer at Manx Wildlife Trust, Rachel is on a mission to connect people of all ages with the natural world. Her return to the Isle of Man represents a growing (yet still rare) movement of young, educated professionals choosing a life and career rooted in community and purpose. This is an open, deeply moving, and humorous conversation about resilience, career change, family, nature, and why it's never too early (or too late) to live with intention. Here's episode 131 with Island Influencers Sarah and Rachel Jarvis, enjoy!

Adam Hart investigates a frenzied and voracious fish from South America – the piranha! Said to be able to strip their prey to the bone in mere minutes, there are plenty of gruesome tales about the bubbling bloodbaths that occur when shoals of these hardy fish feed in the freshwaters across South America - from up in Venezuela in the Orinoco River, to the Amazon and down to the Paraná River in Argentina. What role did former United States President Theodore Roosevelt have in creating the piranha's fearsome reputation? And is this reputation misguided? Adam hears what piranhas are really like, both in the wild and in captivity. He learns about how these fish hunt, the impact that humans are having on them and tries to establish if they really are as bloodthirsty as we've been led to believe. Contributors: Marcelo Ândrade is a professor at the Federal University of Maranhão in Brazil. He researches the environments that piranha live in and their behaviour, as well as plastic ingestion by piranhas. Hannah Thomas is the aquarium team manager at Chester Zoo in the UK where they care for 40 red-bellied piranhas. Our desires can become a distraction and danger if we fill up ourselves with the things of this world.Deuteronomy 8:11-14Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments …; otherwise, when you have eaten and are satisfied, and have built good houses and lived in them, … and all that you have multiplies, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God.

Welcome back to ReZOO: The Zoo Review Podcast! On today's episode, Jack and Jodi revisit Chester Zoo to determine whether they where too generous in their first assessment of the park. They discuss what has changed, some of the events they have attended, and why Chester Zoo remains one of the best zoos in the UK. This episode is broken into 4 sections... Bats, Boats, Babies and Events (sorry we couldn't think of a 4th 'b word'). In the first section they discuss the bat house, which was closed due to COVID-19 the first time they visited. Then they discuss the island boat trip, before fawning over the zoo's baby Rhino, Fossa and Tapir! Finally they recap the Christmas lights and Youth Symposium! Auckland Zoo's centenary is being marked by an exhibition and a book, 100 Years, 100 Stories, revealing how much the zoo's role has changed over that time. Last year the zoo also opened their biggest development to date: the South East Asia Jungle Track, including a climate-controlled tropical dome, high canopy rainforest area and tropical swamp. Today the zoo also works as an advocate for conservation and to help many native species from extinction. But what will it look like in another 100 years? Director Kevin Buley has worked in the industry for nearly 25 years, including as head of zoo programmes at Chester Zoo, the UK's largest visitor attraction outside of London. He has been in roles at Auckland Zoo since 2010.
The Chester Zoo introduced a range of micro-volunteering activities alongside our traditional roles to engage the community in conservation action and volunteering in various ways from citizen science projects from home using motion sensor cameras in people's gardens to discover hedgehog habits to digital roles such as writing subtitles, researching and checking data to responding to letters from school children and school groups when they wrote to the zoo. At the same time, the Chester Zoo embarked on attaining their Investing in Volunteers quality standard, which requires documenting and improving practices in volunteer engagement. True to their community roots, they involved volunteers in helping frame their work during their credentialing process. In this conversation, Lindsay shares their philosophy on engaging stakeholders in their process and how they focus on person-centered volunteer engagement. She also described how they maintained connections with volunteers through social events and coffee mornings, which has led to high volunteer re-engagement and retention.
