Jack-o'-lanterns have become one of the most iconic symbols of Halloween. Their origin story isn't exactly well documented, so tracing their roots involves some folklore, some agriculture, and literary influence.

Mike and Adam talk with Tamra Jackson-Ziems from UNL about many topics but a lot around soybean diseases and tar spot in Corn. Listen to our predictions for the year, what we can do to control many situations and ones we can't control. As soybean planting gets closer, what should we do? Great timely info for early April.

The Conundrum continues with another silly episode full of fantastic tunes, stupid nonsense and secret recordings. This week, Mark takes us back to 1693, Chris has discovered something and nobody finds Paul funny. Among other things, the trio discuss being sued by Lars Ulrich, work out what actually constitutes a song, what Mirror Universe Pavement would sound like and end the podcast in the worst way possible. It's a warts and all episode. 8 Pavement songs... only four can progress. Thanks for all the love so far... keep up with us on Twitter: @ConundrumPod @themarkedwards @thegallatron @thepaulcarlin

Steve Albini is often referred to as a producer, although he prefers the label of recording engineer. Steve owns and operates Electrical Audio, and has been making records for four decades recording other bands and his own band, Shellac. Steve has recorded over 1500 records on analog tape with a full spectrum of bands, from those that you have never heard of, to some of the biggest names in rock and roll: The Pixies, Nirvana, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page, Pj Harvey, The Breeders, Superchunk, Helmet, The Stooges, Cheap Trick, and Veruca Salt. I had the great pleasure to work with Steve at Electrical Audio on a couple of different records while staying at the studio in the dorms. I learned a ton from Steve about recording, running a professional studio, business, and believing in people and their music, and I’m sure you will too here on this podcast. Happy Halloween and welcome to episode 9. Today Rachel Atkins tells you everything you ever needed to know about Pumpkins. Growing advice, tricks and treats, varieties, harvesting, storing and carving.Did you know? Jack O' Lanterns were originally carved out of turnips, a Celtic tradition of warding off evil spirits. Pumpkins became the preferred choice only when Irish emigrants arrived in the US and saw that pumpkins had so much more potential for carving.
