We took a short break around Thanksgiving, which means YOU finally get to hear one of our LIVE episodes from Oxford's inaugural Saint Audio Podcast Festival! We were extremely excited to finally do a show in the UK and see some listeners from across the pond, and -- because we were in England -- we HAD to talk about 1998's The Avengers (aka "the non-Marvel-one), a legendary mega-flop and a despoiling of a beloved British TV series.Note: We performed in Oxford's Town Hall, which was an absolutely gorgeous venue, but was also very large and echoey. We did what we could to minimize the effects, but we apologize that the audio does come with a little extra reverb! We're in season 2 of FlopTV! Pop in for individual episodes, or get a price break with a season pass! Peruse the full line-up and/or get tickets here! Anne and Ryan enter the arena of discussion for the newly-released epic GLADIATOR II starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington. Ridley Scott directs this sequel to his Oscar-winning GLADIATOR, which finds Marcus Aurelius's grandson, Lucius (Mescal) captured and enslaved by the Roman General Acacius (Pascal). After an impressive gladiatorial performance, Lucius is recruited by a conniving stable master to win matches for an opportunity at revenge. Timed for Thanksgiving release, GLADIATOR II performed admirably at the box office, but how does this sword and sandal spectacle compete against Scott's original? Join us for an action-packed analysis of GLADIATOR II, along with diversions into Normal People, Jude Law, Déjà Vu, Ralph Finnes, La Chimera, Metallica, Barabbas, Adam Somner, and much, much more! GLADIATOR II is currently in theaters.

We're doing some new and different things! This is the first episode of our mini series to see out the end of the year, using content from a listener to expand the MIU and lead into a reboot of My Immortal. Today we are joined by a special guest for the very first time! Christina, host of The Restricted Section, joins us to read through some listener content!Jamie (@my_agricultural_romance), a fanfic writer and horny simpleton, has sent us a goddamn THESIS! In this episode we read his background research on the connections between serpents, sorcerers and vampires in traditional folklore, and how these tropes are used in the Harry Potter novels. This is all setting us up to read his My Immortal reboot fanfic, and makes a very compelling argument for the canon confirmation of Vampire Potter.Unrelated tangents include: tits and breastfeeding, Ralph Finnes' biceps, and a truly horrifying anecdote about a friend of a friend who got bitten by a snake and took a nap. We continue our discussion of how vampires suck blood, and Christina has our favourite suggestion thus far.We highly recommend you listen to The Restricted Section, a pro trans rights, anti JK Rowling Harry Potter podcast. You can follow them @restrictedsectionpod. You can also follow Christina and her publishing house Wildling Press.Jamie is on the socials @my_agricultural_romance. AVENGERS! ASSEM... No, that's not right. Rewind to... 1998? Uma Thurman? Ralph Finnes? Sean Connery? WHAT IS THIS?! This week, Joey is joined by some of the members of the Treasure Valley Avengers to discuss this weird and basically unknown film where Sean Connery tries to control the weather and The Avengers is just a cool name for some spies. The Avengers tanked when it came out, but maybe there's something in here worth watching.
Episode 28 is all about the Red Dragon and we don't mean with Ralph Finnes. Plus Bryan breaks down where "Memes" come from and Sam explains why everyone is worthless
OMG! Episode 60! Hannah and Jen from Standard Issue (a podcast by women for women BOOM!) return for Hannah’s choice In Bruges. Where to start with In Bruges? It’s a 2008 film from Martin McDonagh starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hitmen attempting to lay low in Bruges. What follows includes a batshit awesome performance from Ralph Finnes, a coke fueled racist rant from a dwarf actor and enclaves. It’s a comedy in case you were wondering. In the arc of Colin Farrell this is brilliant and hilarious, the chemistry between him and Gleeson is genuine and completely convincing. New comer to In Bruges Jen found it “well bleak” and not the “bantz-a-fucking-rama” she was led to believe - and rightly so. Definitely not up there for her like Bugsy Malone or Kindergarten Cop. It is bleak, spoilers there is a LOT of death but it is also really, really funny. Definitely an acquired taste is required and if you’re into it then you’ll be rewarded, if you’re not, maybe give it another try? Scores [supsystic-tables id='62']Generally, this film comes recommended with MASSIVE CAVEATS, it’s violent, it’s bloody, it’s very sweary, it’s pretty weird and it’s fucking bleak, so you have been warned. Overall Flixwatcher and guests award In Bruges 3.58 (so nearly a 4) - a second watch from Jen (with less sleeping) might have bumped it up to a 4, which was generally how Twitter felt too. What do you guys think? Have you seen In Bruges? What did you think? Please let us know in the comments below! Mark & Sarah continue thier quest to watch the 100 greatest novels everyone should read by watching TV and Film adaptations of these great works. In this episode Mark & Sarah discuss the Ralph Finnes and Liv Tyler film 'Onegin' from 1999. Despite not being able to pronounce the actors or characters names they look at this very famous story originally written in the form of poetry by Alexander Pushkin in the early 1800's. The story is well known as an Opera but does it make a good film?
