My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ For years, Hollywood writer Aaron Tracy built his career inside the traditional television system, writing for shows like Law & Order and navigating the endless cycle of pilots, canceled series, and development purgatory that defines much of the TV business. But over the last several years, Tracy has quietly carved out a very different kind of entertainment career: producing serialized audio dramas for platforms like Audible and iHeart. Along the way, he's worked with everyone from Aaron Paul to Lizzy Caplan to Glenn Powell, helping pioneer a form of storytelling that sits somewhere between television, audiobooks, and podcasting. In a recent interview, Tracy explained why audio dramas offer writers far more creative freedom than television, how he packages and sells narrative shows to platforms like Audible and iHeart, and the surprisingly lean production process behind large-scale audio series.

Two completely different films. So much so that it feels wrong calling 2025's The Running Man a remake. Luke & Corrye find a ton of ridiculousness in Arnold Schwarzenegger's version, and timely commentary and nods to modern times in Glenn Powell's. PLUS: Dune 3 tickets, a new James Bond actor, a new Aragorn, and the prequel we didn't need but are excited about thanks to Bradley Cooper.
In this episode Kody and Korbin talk Glen Powell in a baseball movie, "Everybody Wants Some!!" (18:21) after a short review of the new Glenn Powell animated film "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" (2:58).Hosts: Korbin Zvokel and Kody Webbhttps://linktr.ee/khapodcast

Dallas Little insists his AI artist should be respected. We're not so sure. What is art anyway? Judd Apatow's new movie stars Glenn Powell as a country western star in free fall. Lady Gaga abruptly cancels a show. A school board member has been living under a rock. At least that's the only way to explain his disgusting behavior. In more harmless news, a grocery story ordered WAY too many bananas. Plus, When Did That Happen?
Hour 1: Rapper Offset, Cardi B's ex, was shot in Florida last night. Savannah Guthrie returned to The Today Show yesterday. Caitlin Clark gets a 521% salary bump. Let's eat the headlines: The ‘Lord of the Flies' trailer is gross; Kim Kardashian is Instagram official with Lewis Hamilton. The Artemis II mission is creating more space buzz than we've seen in a long time. Bay area gas prices are now AVERAGING over $6 a gallon. How are you? Never better. What generation has the biggest sweet tooth? Hour 2: Email us your problems! We can (probably) help! badadvice973@gmail.com. Scammers never stop. The Artemis II crew got a call from Ryan Gosling. Jimmy Kimmel made four, twenty minute weed focused documentaries. Vinnie prefers the classic stoner comedies. Tattoos are totally mainstream now, huh? One guy's TikTok just saved a bakery! And, another feel-good story about bowling. Big Bear Lake is home to 2 new bald eagles! If you're a young adult living with your parents, you're not alone. Hour 3: We know who's replacing Stephen Colbert after his show ends in May. Bob says she'll be watching Hot Ones instead. Kim Kardashian is in the news… so is Kanye. ‘Weapons' writer is creating a spin-off for Aunt Gladys. Is asking for free stuff on the internet a trend? What do you do after Ozempic? Get divorced. Vinnie's telling us about the stickiest cities in America. Hour 4: Dallas Little insists his AI artist should be respected. We're not so sure. What is art anyway? Judd Apatow's new movie stars Glenn Powell as a country western star in free fall. Lady Gaga abruptly cancels a show. A school board member has been living under a rock. This week on Made Up Movie, Brad Lowe brings what he confidently calls “the greatest idea of his life” (ranking just behind his marriage), and Nikki immediately realizes she's either witnessing genius… or the beginning of a cinematic crime.Welcome to the birth of Monkey Cop.The episode starts normal—talking musicals, Muppets, and whether anyone over 25 should legally be allowed inside Spencer's—before Brad drops a fully developed, slightly concerning cinematic universe that he's apparently been building in his head for years. We're talking:A chain-smoking, beer-drinking chimp copA washed-up human partner one write-up away from getting firedA PG-13 movie that somehow includes drugs, bar fights, and monkey hookupsA VHS intro featuring a monkey watching edited adult tapes (yes, really)And that's just the pitch. From there, things spiral beautifully.Brad unveils:A full trilogy (with escalating banana-based subtitles)A spin-off called The Splooge (yes, that's a real sentence)A cartoon seriesA prequel origin storyMerchandising plans like he's already met with DisneyMeanwhile, Nikki is trying to keep things grounded by asking reasonable questions like:“Should this be CGI or a real monkey?”…and Brad responds with a deep dive into real-life monkey crime documentaries and a former coworker who is now apparently in prison. Because of course. They also:Debate casting like this is actually greenlit (Glenn Powell, Sydney Sweeney, Channing Tatum—Monkey Cop is STACKED)Accidentally turn the movie into a mashup of Ted, Superbad, and Miami ViceCreate a musical number about cocaine mid-conversationAnd somehow land on a stalker subplot where Nikki plays a woman obsessed with Monkey Cop's clothing… and potentially his poopYes. That happens.By the end, no one is entirely sure what just happened—but they are sure of one thing:Monkey Cop is either movie gold… or the exact reason Hollywood should have stricter rules.Either way, this episode proves one thing:You don't need a real movie to have a better time than most real movies.Just another completely normal episode of Movie Torture. In this episode, GG Hawkins speaks with editor Harrison Atkins about shaping A24's How to Make a Killing with director John Patton Ford. Atkins breaks down his path into editing, his holistic “total filmmaker” approach to storytelling, and the editorial challenges of balancing dark comedy, violence, voiceover, and audience empathy around a morally compromised protagonist. The conversation also explores the realities of studio post-production, from long edit timelines and test screenings to cutting in Adobe Premiere's Productions workflow while collaborating with a London-based post team more accustomed to Avid. In this episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins and guest Harrison Atkins discuss... How Harrison Atkins found his way into editing through directing and making his own films Why he thinks of editing as a holistic, dramaturgical part of filmmaking rather than a purely technical role Reuniting with director John Patton Ford after Emily the Criminal What drew him to the multi-tonal mix of crime, satire, dark comedy, and violence in How to Make a Killing How voiceover created both opportunity and endless editorial possibilities in the cut The difference between an indie sprint like Emily the Criminal and the extended timeline of a studio feature How test screenings and audience response helped refine comedy, pacing, and emotional momentum Why the first reel was crucial to getting audiences aligned with a charismatic but morally gray lead The editorial challenge of shaping an underdog around Glenn Powell's natural confidence and charm How Premiere's Productions workflow supported a collaborative feature edit with multiple people working simultaneously What it was like cutting the film in London with assistant editors adapting from an Avid-heavy post environment How temporary VFX comps in After Effects and Photoshop helped solve story and joke-building problems inside the edit Harrison's philosophy of leadership, collaboration, intuition, and staying present as both an editor and director His advice to emerging filmmakers: fail boldly, work small if necessary, and keep making things instead of waiting for permission Memorable Quotes: “I never really considered myself an editor. I still kind of weirdly don't.” (01:19) “The calendar is really a myth.” (06:59) “The difference between a joke that lands and one that doesn't is often microscopic.” (13:30) “Perfection is the enemy of good.” (33:50) Guests: Harrison Atkins Resources: How to Make a Killing Emily the Criminal Total Filmmaker by Jerry Lewis Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web: No Film School Facebook: No Film School on Facebook Twitter: No Film School on Twitter YouTube: No Film School on YouTube Instagram: No Film School on Instagram

Send a textThis week, we're diving into star power and swordplay. First up, we review Glenn Powell's newest film, How to Make a Killing, breaking down the performances, the twists, and whether this darkly comic thriller lives up to the hype. Is Powell officially in his leading-man era? We debate. Then we head to Westeros to talk about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO Max. Does this smaller-scale Game of Thrones story capture the magic of the original series? We discuss the tone, the characters, and where it fits in the ever-growing fantasy universe. To close things out, we get chaotic in the best way possible with a five-on-five basketball draft — but with a twist: every player must be a Pixar character. Who's running point? Who's dominating the paint? And which one of us built a championship squad?Movies, medieval drama, and animated athleticism — let's get into it.
WannaBO VP of Interns Christopher joins The Boys in studio to preview a batch of pitiful looking new releases! Is HOW TO MAKE A KILLING the next step in how to make Glenn Powell a former movie star? There's a new movie called PSYCHO KILLER that can't even afford the rights to the Talking Heads song for a trailer. I Can Only Imagine 2 is the rare music biopic sequel, and MIDWINTER BREAK is the ultimate Angelika movie. Do any of these stand a chance against Wuthering Heights or GOAT? On this week's show, Julia, Dana, Steve are off to the dystopian races with Edgar Wright's adaptation of The Running Man. “Is anyone out there actually listening, or are we just talking to ourselves?” That's the question that kicks off this lively episode of The JB and Sandy Show, where Sandy, JB, and Tricia dive into the quirks of family life, the unpredictability of live radio, and the hilarious realities of celebrity culture. From a heartfelt listener message that reminds the crew why they do what they do, to a laugh-out-loud recounting of a broken house rule (and a near slip of the “B word”), this episode is packed with relatable moments. The trio shares stories of accidental mishaps—like a shattered Cabo souvenir and the ongoing saga of lost items—and the playful blame game that ensues. “It's always you,” Tricia jokes, capturing the essence of their dynamic. Listeners are treated to a heartwarming “story we love” about Austin's own Glenn Powell hosting SNL, complete with a full-circle moment involving a UPS driver and a family selfie—proof that sometimes, good things really do come back around. The episode takes a hilarious turn as Tricia challenges JB and Sandy to admit which male celebrities they find attractive. The resulting debate is both awkward and entertaining, with memorable lines like, “I cannot bring myself to say a guy is hot. I cannot do that,” and playful banter about hair envy and the impact of an earring on a man's vibe. Notable quotes and moments include:“It's such a violation when somebody tickles your armpits. It's horrible. Not cool.”“She'll be mad at you every single time she looks at that. She'll be re-mad.”“I cannot bring myself to say a guy is hot. I cannot do that.”“He just always looks oily… even the Nagahai jacket looked oily on Saturday.”With a blend of humor, honesty, and Austin flavor, this episode captures the spirit of The JB and Sandy Show—where real life meets real laughs, and every listener is part of the conversation. “Have you ever wondered what it's like to live in a town where the air itself becomes the talk of the community?” That's the question that kicks off this lively episode of The JB and Sandy Show. Join JB, Sandy, and special guest Tricia as they dive into the quirky, sometimes pungent realities of life in Central Texas. The episode opens with a hilarious debate over the ultimate workout playlist—would yacht rock really get you pumped up?—before shifting to the headline-grabbing saga of Bastrop's infamous animal byproduct rendering facility. Hundreds of residents are up in arms as the “smell of death and poop” drifts for miles, sparking memories of childhood odors and the oddities of growing up near factories and mills. But it's not all about the nose! The show takes a dramatic turn with the story of the Vandegrift High School band's semi-trailer, which was struck by a train en route to a state competition.
