As we wrap up 2024, investors remain divided on the future of the Chinese stock market. Bullish investors are betting on policy support to spark a rebound, while the sceptics see structural challenges capping gains in equities. Who is right? Is China a treasure trove or a value trap? What more can policymakers do to restore confidence? And how should stock pickers adapt to an evolving Chinese economy? In this special episode, Marty Dropkin, Head of Equities, Asia Pacific, investigates both sides of this debate with the help of two veteran portfolio managers at Fidelity International: Dale Nicholls, who plays China bull, and Nick Price, who presents the bear case. With an additional contribution from Asia Economist Peiqian Liu. READ Read a summary of this episode here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

China has come out with a string of policies that are targeted to reinvigorate economic growth. Some of the policies are adding leverage to the government's balance sheet. A question that investors are asking is: how much more will China realistically spend to stimulate the economy? So far, these policies have focused on shoring up demand - unlike after the financial crisis, when China spent trillions of renminbi to expand supply. That is an importance difference because it implies policymakers remain disciplined in the way they choose to manage debt. Marty Dropkin, Head of Equities, Asia Pacific, asks Fidelity International's Director of Research for Fixed Income, Asia Pacific, Bich Nguyen, and Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Tae Ho Ryu, about how investors should approach the issue. With an additional contribution from Portfolio Manager Olivia He. This episode was recorded on September 12th, 2024, before the most recent policy measures were announced. Welcome to the third episode of Season Seven of the Bagley Wright Lecture Series on Poetry podcast. Season Seven is comprised of lectures written and delivered by Douglas Kearney during his tenure as a Bagley Wright Lecturer. Today we'll hear "Red Read / Read Red: Depictions of Violence in Poetry." This talk was originally given March 24, 2021, at Portland Literary Arts, via Zoom. Douglas Kearney has long written about the conflation of violence and entertainment in U.S. American culture, from badman folklore to postcards of lynchings. Still, there are questions that haunt. What are the ethics of representing violence? How might poetic aestheticizations of brutality transform, reinscribe, or abet violence? Through a series of vignettes in which Kearney entangles his encounters with violence as a reader and his own attempts to put it down on the page, the poet investigates what compels him about the subject. Visit us at our website, www.bagleywrightlectures.org, for more information about Bagley Wright lecturers, as well as links to supplementary materials on each lecturer's archive page, including selected writings. Douglas Kearney's book based on his BWLS lectures, Optic Subwoof (Wave Books, 2022) is forthcoming in November, and is available for preorder here. In this week's show, Phil talks to Arpit Mohan, who has always been fascinated by technology, from taking apart has Tamagotchi to creating a mobile game that went viral. He is the co-founder and CTO of Appsmith, an open-source project built by engineers for engineers. It is now used by more than 1,000 teams, employs people in 8 countries and has raised over $10 million in capital. Arpit talks about the value of focussing upon soft skills such as communication and enhancing teams. He also discusses the value of reading, and how it can make you a better writer. KEY TAKEAWAYS: TOP CAREER TIP Software engineers focus on the tools and the code too much, we should focus more upon the soft skills that go with the job, such as the people and the teams. WORST CAREER MOMENT Arpit ran a delete query on a database, and mistyped the command, which wiped every order in the company's system for the previous six months. This taught him the value of quality checking every moment. CAREER HIGHLIGHT While running a mobile game company, the game they were working on went viral. The user database began to grow very rapidly. THE FUTURE OF CAREERS IN I.T Software and IT has endless potential to provide solutions for the world. There are numerous ways in which the physical world cannot achieve certain things, but IT and software can make these things a reality. THE REVEAL What first attracted you to a career in I.T.? – The ability to create and express himself as a builder What's the best career advice you received? – Make your manager look good What's the worst career advice you received? – To focus on the money and compensation, and to go for the jobs that pay the best. What would you do if you started your career now? – Arpit would focus upon the internals of systems What are your current career objectives? – Trying to be a better leader, and to become a more effective communicator What's your number one non-technical skill? – The ability to write long form formats, such as memos. How do you keep your own career energized? – Read, read, read! What do you do away from technology? – Running, fitness and spending time with family FINAL CAREER TIP Reading is incredibly important. The more you read, the better you write. BEST MOMENTS (3:16) – Arpit – “I've always been bedazzled by the ability to create” (6:06) – Arpit - “A lot of people end up being senior engineers, but junior humans, but it should be the other way around” (7:00) – Arpit – “What will get you ahead in life is when you build trust with your team” (16:46)– Arpit – “I'm very optimistic about careers in IT, because that's where the future is” ABOUT THE HOST – PHIL BURGESS Phil Burgess is an independent IT consultant who has spent the last 20 years helping organizations to design, develop, and implement software solutions. Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & Sexuality It's Easter Eve as our Love Train leaves the station, so we crack open an Easter egg of revelations regarding “The Resurrection” of Jesus, Persephone, Osiris, Dionysus/Bacchus, Spring and you. Yes, YOU. Want to resurrect your erection—or just your general lust for life… and the afterlife? Listen Springing from the glories of Gospel heaven to the depths of Christian hell, we tell the cautionary tale of Oklahoma Pastor David Evans' cuckold “love triangle” that started in a Super 8 Motel and ended in a murder with the victim's own gun. If you're interested in cuckolding, listen up and learn what NOT to do! As this tragic killing, the Massage Parlor Massacre and so many others demonstrate, we need gun control—for police as well as civilians. Nevertheless, a murder weapon can be just a knee on the neck of a handcuffed prisoner struggling to breathe, as evidenced by the sadistic policing that took George Floyd's life, now on display in the harrowing trial of Derek Chauvin. For comic relief, we have Gaetz-Gate, wherein Far-Right Buffoon Matt Gaetz tries to drag fellow Far-Right Buffoon Tucker Carlson into his own sleazy circus of sex scandal. We love to see one of Drumpf's favorite and most obnoxious punks take a pratfall for any reason, though we're not judging his sexual behavior until more facts emerge. When a Cuomosexual listener wants us to weigh in on the New York Governor's scandals, all we can say is he must be thanking Jesus this Easter for the heavenly distraction of Gaetz-gate. In light of the most recent “gender reveal” tragedy, Capt'n Max, Unscene Abe, Mariah and I deplore the multi-tiered stupidities of gender reveal parties, from jinxing your future child's sexuality to setting your neighborhood on fire. We then take a slight detour into movie-reviewing two new “buddy films,” one being our friend and “Funniest Fundamentalist Refugee” Suzy Award winner Luzer Twersky's star turn in the soon-to-be-released “No Name Restaurant” (about an Orthodox Jew and Bedouin's unlikely friendship forged in the desert), and the other being Eric Andre's Candid-Camera-ish “Bad Trip” (the Chinese finger trap scene reminds me of male bonobos resolving conflict through “penis fencing”). How are “buddy films” like these, focused on male-male bonding as opposed to male-female relationships, connected with Jesus and all those male-bonding Apostles? Was/Is Jesus bi? Aren't we all… at least somewhat? It's just sexo-theological speculation; all I know for sure is that I love my Jesus Jackhammer dildo, one of the stars of our post-show bacchanal, “Easter Eve DTEASE Res-Erection on DrSuzy.Tv,” which also features Unlicensed Professionals Cat Imperio (the “Anal Artist”) and Samantha Fairley, Dayton Rains, sexy trans pornstar Chelsea Marie and amazing glam-punk sex-rock band The DTease (don't miss it)! We also gear up for next week's 29th wedding anniversary ride on the Love Train and, speaking of railroad romance, we're excited for Biden's plan to pump billions into public transportation infrastructure—including trains. Woo hoo and choo-choo! Yo Joe, we know you've got an Amtrak fetish, but how about throwing a bit of those billions to the F.D.R. Love Train? Want more? Can't get enough of that Easter Eve stuff? Criminal Justice Evolution Podcast - Hosted by Patrick Fitzgibbons
Hello everyone and welcome back to Microcast Monday. Special thanks to all the brave men and women who protect us everyday who work in the criminal justice field. Also, thanks to all the brave men and women who protect this great country who serve in the US Military. I hope you have a great Monday and a start to your week. I recently had dinner with a relative this weekend who told me about a college professor he had back in the day who taught him three things about life which really stuck with him. They stuck with me too, and I want to share them with you. 1) Read - Read everyday. Everything starts with reading and we do it everyday. While we often have to read things that don't necessarily inspire or motivate us sometimes, we should be reading something everyday that does. 2) Learn - We need to be learning something everyday. Learning is growth and with growth comes wisdom. 3) Suffer - As weird as it sounds we need to be suffering everyday to some degree. I am not talking about physical suffering, but I am talking about the suffering and adversity that helps us become better. Getting comfortable being uncomfortable is one of the paths to success. Stay tuned for more great guests on the CJEvolution Podcast. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Failure and success dont just happen one day…its the daily activities that get you there! Your daily habits! All that we are and all that we do..are our habits! Our habits are created from repetitious behavior over time. The mind etches them into patterns called neural pathways. These neural pathways help to govern our lives and make everyday tasks simpler. But, we don't all have habits that serve us. In fact, most of our habits aren't success habits; most of our habits are bad habits. The goal is to overpower our bad habits with good, healthy habits! You are only one decision away from a completely different life! This is a great place to start!! ----------------------------------------------------- Here are my top 10 Activities/Habits to do Daily for Massive Success! 1. MINDSET — the success you desire is 80% mindset and 20% strategy! Knock out your negative thoughts, write new beliefs and affirmations, brain dumb, write out 10 reasons why you are amazing at what you do! Just spend time working on your mindset and clearing those negative thoughts holding you back! 2. READ — Read for a certain time or a certain amount of pages! Not all readers are leaders BUT all leaders ARE readers! 3. DREAM— Spend some time Visualizing and or Meditating with your dreams in mind! You always want to keep your dreams close so even if you start your day with a Pinterest dream board, I want you to know what your dream is going to look like and then visualize it actually coming into reality! 4. BE ACTIVE — work out. Go for a walk/ dance around your house start somewhere even if its just a quick 15 min walk around the neighborhood! 5. PLAN—Set daily goals the night before or in the morning! Focus on the 6 most important things that need to get done—make 3 non negotiable!! Always set yourself up for a win, even if its accomplishing 3 small things! 6.
