**Episode 1187 of The Clay Edwards Show** (Hour 2 features Kingfish from Jackson Jambalaya): On this April Fools' Day episode of The Clay Edwards Show, Clay kicks things off with a wild fake-out rant declaring he's done with Trump, MAGA, and law enforcement—before quickly revealing it was all a prank. From there, the conversation dives into Southern culture, barbecue debates, and why certain food stereotypes just don't hold up below the Mason-Dixon line. Clay shares a personal note about a tough family loss with one of the family's beloved pets, then gets into the day's headlines. He breaks down the Mississippi Senate's controversial decision to kill a House bill aimed at easing the ongoing ABC liquor distribution backlog, leaving bars, restaurants, liquor stores, and casinos stuck waiting—and paying—for delayed orders. Is it time to privatize the state's liquor system? Clay and special guest Kingfish from JacksonJambalaya.com debate the fiasco, potential fixes, and what it says about bureaucracy in Mississippi. Kingfish joins for a full hour to discuss the new Jackson water authority legislation, why many don't trust city leadership with critical infrastructure, the politics behind the board makeup, debt transfer, and rate hikes. The duo also swaps stories on local barbecue joints (gas station BBQ vs. sit-down spots), restaurant closures, and the challenges of keeping consistent quality in the business. As always, expect unfiltered talk on Jackson issues, Mississippi politics, law enforcement, and plenty of no-holds-barred commentary. Clay even sneaks in a fun curveball question for Kingfish about Matt Gaetz's wild claims on alien hybrid breeding programs—just to watch the reaction. If you enjoy sharp Southern conservative talk radio with humor, real talk on local problems, and zero filter, this episode delivers. **Guest:** Kingfish (Jackson Jambalaya) **Topics:** April Fools prank, ABC liquor backlog & Senate inaction, Jackson water authority bill, Southern culture & barbecue wars, local news, and more. Perfect for fans of straight-shooting Mississippi commentary with a side of laughs.
**Episode 1187 – Hour 2: Kingfish from Jackson Jambalaya** In Hour 2, Clay Edwards is joined by Kingfish, the founder of JacksonJambalaya.com, for a wide-ranging and no-holds-barred conversation on Mississippi and Jackson issues. The duo dives deep into the Mississippi Senate's controversial decision to kill a House bill that would have provided temporary relief for the ongoing ABC liquor distribution backlog. They discuss the real-world impact on liquor stores, bars, restaurants, and casinos, why the fix failed in conference, and whether it's time to privatize the state's liquor system entirely. Kingfish breaks down the newly passed Jackson water authority legislation, explaining the board structure, how it shifts control and debt away from city leadership, why many lawmakers don't trust Jackson voters with critical infrastructure, and the political fallout from Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba's office. The conversation also touches on local restaurant news, including the closure of Full Moon Barbecue in Madison, the strengths and weaknesses of gas station barbecue versus sit-down spots, and why some barbecue joints struggle in the Jackson area. As always, expect sharp analysis, Southern perspective, and unfiltered commentary on Jackson politics, bureaucracy, and daily life in Central Mississippi. Clay even throws Kingfish a curveball with a wild question about Matt Gaetz's claims regarding alien hybrid breeding programs—eliciting a classic Kingfish reaction. If you like honest talk on Mississippi news, Jackson issues, and conservative commentary with a side of humor, this hour is for you. **Guest:** Kingfish (Jackson Jambalaya) **Topics:** ABC liquor backlog, Jackson water authority bill, local barbecue scene, Mississippi politics, and more
In this segment, Clay Edwards sits down with Kingfish of JacksonJambalaya.com to break down the newly passed Jackson Water Authority legislation and what it really means for the city. Kingfish explains the bill's key provisions: how the new authority board is structured, with three seats for the City of Jackson (including a non-voting role for the mayor), three for the governor, one for the lieutenant governor, and seats for nearby cities like Byram and Ridgeland. He details why the legislature removed the Jackson City Council's approval power over certain appointments and lowered the threshold for rate increases and bond issues from a three-fourths to a two-thirds majority. The conversation explores the deep distrust many lawmakers have toward city leadership and voters when it comes to managing critical infrastructure. Topics include the transfer of approximately $120 million in water and sewer debt off the city's books, the requirement for the authority to lease the system from Jackson, and the potential for political pushback from the city council. Kingfish and Clay discuss the broader context — repeated failures with Jackson's water system, past issues with leadership, and why many see this as a necessary step to protect ratepayers and ensure reliable service, even as Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba expressed strong disappointment with the final bill. This is a clear-eyed, no-spin look at one of Jackson's most important infrastructure battles, the politics behind it, and what it could mean for the future of the city's water and sewer system. **Guest:** Kingfish (Jackson Jambalaya) **Focus:** Jackson Water Authority bill, board control, debt transfer, rate hikes, and local political distrust. Perfect for listeners who want straight talk on Jackson politics and infrastructure issues.
In one of the most entertaining curveballs of the show, Clay Edwards throws a wild question at Kingfish from JacksonJambalaya.com: What does he think about Matt Gaetz claiming he was briefed by a U.S. Army official on secret alien hybrid breeding programs? Clay plays the clip where Gaetz describes being told that captured aliens were breeding with humans to create a hybrid race capable of intergalactic communication. Kingfish delivers his classic no-nonsense reaction — complete with sharp wit and skepticism. The conversation quickly turns into a hilarious and honest back-and-forth about aliens, government whistleblowers, abduction stories, and why credible evidence seems to have dried up in the smartphone era. Clay and Kingfish debate whether there's any truth to the wild claims, share their thoughts on the broader UFO/UAP conversation, and contrast it with classic Coast to Coast AM-style radio lore (including time travelers and Art Bell's legendary interviews). This light-hearted detour provides a perfect break from serious Mississippi politics, showcasing the unfiltered banter and humor that makes the show unique. **Guest:** Kingfish (Jackson Jambalaya) **Focus:** Matt Gaetz alien briefing, human-alien hybrid breeding programs, UFO skepticism, and classic conspiracy radio stories. If you enjoy serious political talk mixed with ridiculous “what if” moments and authentic reactions, don't miss this fun segment.

Faith and Suspense is at the heart of this compelling interview between Betsy Wurzel and John Robert Still, author of Intercessor. Written entirely on his phone, John's debut novel combines spiritual transformation with thrilling danger, set in the atmospheric city of New Orleans.Betsy and John dive into the mysterious, eye-catching book cover and the development of main character Jim Hampton—a former lawyer being hunted by a murderous cult.As a tropical depression brews in the Gulf, Jim finds refuge and unexpected spiritual guidance from Myriam, a woman who helps him reconnect with his childhood faith.John shares how Faith and Suspense shape not just the plot of Intercessor but also its deeper themes of resilience and renewal. As Jim struggles to survive, the story reflects the powerful ways people turn to—or turn away from—their beliefs during moments of crisis. They also explore how New Orleans becomes more than just a setting—it's a living character in the story, steeped in black magic, voodoo, and Catholic tradition. These elements lend a spiritual weight and cultural depth to the novel's unfolding mystery.Set against this evocative backdrop, Intercessor blends Faith and Suspense into a rich, cinematic experience that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. John describes the book as “an uplifting story where Jim keeps going—because life can be a funhouse journey.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/chatting-with-betsy--4211847/support.

Meet the Chickadees, a trio of young musicians from Shreveport, Louisiana! These sensational ten-year-olds – Posy Harper, Evie Desobry and Ellie Spero – are a breath of fresh air to the local music scene with their infectious energy and impressive talent. Guided by their dedicated teacher, Miss Sandra Odom, the Chickadees are singing and strumming their way into the hearts of audiences. [Katy: I first met the Chickadees at the gravesite of Huddie Ledbetter at our annual Lead Belly Graveside Jam in October 2024, and I've been following their band since then. Watch their performance of Cottonfields here!)] The kids met at school (A.C. Steere) and were all music students studying under Sandra, and the band came together naturally. All play ukulele, but each member brings a unique flair to the project. Posy also plays bass, while Evie plays banjolini, which she likes for its distinct twang). Ellie has delightful stage presence and a yodeling twist to the group. Her rendition of “Lovesick Blues” is a showstopper! The Chickadees' set list is a sweet mix of timeless classics and contemporary hits. They perform a lot of Louisiana crowd pleasers (“Jambalaya,” “Louisiana Saturday Night”) as well as new songs by artists such as Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves. Despite their young age, these songbirds are seasoned performers, enchanting audiences at various venues and events around north Louisiana. The Chickadees are enjoying their friendship through music -- practice sessions double as fun playdates and sometimes even roll into sleepovers! For other young aspiring musicians, the Chickadees have some advice: pick an instrument you love, find a supportive teacher, and practice, practice, practice until you hit those high notes! Thank you, Miss Sandra and The Chickadees for sharing your talent with Confetti Park!

Greg is red hot angry about the news that broke regarding internet celebrity guitarist Giacomo Turra. You can check out the video here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CI4nuce3ppA). It appears that a large swath of Mr. Turra's ‘improvised jams' are note for note ripoffs of much lesser known guitarists that post on YouTube & Instagram. As a result of this news, nearly all of the manufacturers that endorsed Giacomo have taken down his gear and are no longer associating with him. In these, the coldest of days (unless you live in Australia), we're in dire need of food that makes us feel comforted and safe. In that vein, Bobby, Meredith, and Ann are talking our favorite comfort foods, otherwise known as “things you want to eat on a plate that's kind of like a bowl.” Unspellable Midwest goulashes? Check. Recipes that incorporate Lipton onion soup mix? Check. The salt bomb of the classic comfort dish? Check. Plus: corn water, get out the pie Pyrex, and we don't care about the provenance of the cheese.TSHE Recommends: Tugay İnanoğluConnect with the show! This is your show, too. It's a New Orleans style smash or pass! Jambalaya, Gumbo, po boys we cover it all here!
This is a Happy New Years, more light-hearted, episode for my listeners. There are two extended reflections: what are mind and consciousness in light of the prevailing evolutionary narrative? And, what hopes do I have for the newly configured Trumpian DOGE? But along the way I also variously interweave reflections on New Years resolutions, Trump's inauguration, 11 animal kinds that pair and mate for life, the top 15 worst nations for persecution of Christianity, what motivates me (negatively and positively) as a podcaster, and what do I think about a professor's legacy? Come and start your New Years thinking from out of Christian commitments.
