Well, today I got to sit down with the amazing Rebecca Adam, CEO of Expression Australia. And let me tell you, this episode was a first for me - I had my very first Auslan-interpreted conversation, and I was like a kid in a candy shop! Rebecca's story blew me away. She's profoundly deaf, but that hasn't stopped her from smashing through glass ceilings. She's the first deaf CEO of her organization in 140 years and she's also a lawyer to the Supreme Court of Victoria using Auslan. We talked about everything from her experiences growing up in a deaf household, to leading a national organisation, to the ways technology is helping (and sometimes falling short) when it comes to deaf inclusion. I even learned that one in six Aussies is actually affected by hearing loss. Rebecca's got such a calm, yet powerful presence, and she's been breaking barriers in education, sports, law - you name it.. I adore her! Her resilience and the way she's used adversity as fuel to become a leader and an advocate for the deaf community is such a legendary achievement. Plus, huge thanks to Mark Quinn, the Auslan interpreter. This conversation was one of my favourites! In a new lawsuit he filed yesterday, Dan Schneider (the man behind shows like “Zoey 101” and “The Amanda Show”) is accusing the “Quiet on Set” production team of defaming him. The ID docuseries details alleged abuse and misconduct at Nickelodeon, with a lot of the show's focus on Schneider. But while Schneider recently apologized for some of his past behavior, he's now claiming that the doc and its trailer imply that he was sexually inappropriate with some of the child actors on his shows. Schneider wants a jury trial to clear his name, but we'll have to see if this all plays out in public.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
