As the Trump Administration works to re-envision, revise, and rewrite the ways in which the United States engages with the world, it remains important that people understand the why and the how of U.S. foreign policy.  Whether you want to make America safer, more prosperous, and more secure, or you take a broader look at the importance of global engagement, understanding the goals and limitations of U.S. power can inform your thinking of the U.S.' role in the world.Speaking with Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy For America, this episode outlines what a principled approach to foreign policy looks like and how the current administration diverges from the traditional approach. From respecting human rights, building important alliances, and engaging the global economy, there is a lot about U.S. foreign policy that can be improved, but we must ensure we do not throw the proverbial baby out with the bath water. By listening to this month's episode you will gain insights into the state of U.S. global engagement, hear about why it remains important to U.S. prosperity, and how you can help shape the U.S.' approach to the world. Andrew Albertson is the founding Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. He previously served at USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI), where he was Deputy Regional Representative for OTI's programs in South and Southwest Afghanistan. Prior to that, Andrew was the founding executive director of the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED), a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to examining how genuine democracies can develop in the Middle East and how the U.S. can best support that process. Andrew serves on the board of directors for Secure Families Initiative, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and the Middle East Democracy Center. They reflect on the importance of being intentional, crafting a plan, and seeking purpose beyond oneself. The couple emphasizes the challenges and rewards of creating structure after leaving the corporate treadmill, the significance of giving back, and the value of perseverance when exploring new roles. Their story encourages listeners to approach life transitions with intention, passion, and a mindset focused on serving others, offering a hopeful roadmap for those considering their own “Life 2.0.” About our guests, Todd and Cindy Shinabarger: Todd Shinabarger has nearly 40 years of senior information technology management experience in various industries - including manufacturing, automotive, construction, retail, fashion and non-profit - where he led numerous multi-million dollar IT capital projects. After more than 3 decades in the corporate environment, Todd “retired” in 2015, assuming the CIO role at OM USA. Since joining, he's helped to transform and modernize the IT ecosystem, replacing nearly every IT application and process. Cindy Shinabarger grew up in Upland, Indiana. She attended Taylor University, majoring in physics systems, and discovered her passion for manufacturing during an internship at AVX Ceramic. Throughout her career in electronic manufacturing—spanning roles in failure analysis and wafer fabrication—Cindy balanced raising children while navigating a male-dominated industry. Known for her persistence and courage, she earned respect by “earning the right to be heard” and mentoring others to observe, adapt, and thrive in challenging professional environments. In Cindy's “retirement” or Life 2.0 as she and Todd call it, she now serves at OM USA, a global non-profit by using her scientific and failure analysis background to help grow the organization and launch sustainable projects. Excelling in basketball and track at Taylor University, Doug's freshman year was marked by a National Championship win in the 800m at the NCCAA Track & Field Championships. This triumph spurred him to devote himself entirely to running, a decision that led to a full scholarship and a transfer to the University of Georgia (UGA). At UGA, Doug consistently ranked as a top contender in the SEC and etched his name in the record books with several top ten all-time performances in both indoor and outdoor track and field. His athletic achievements also include being a member of the Georgia All-State Cross Country Team and representing Athletes in Action in European races in 1987. Beyond the track, Doug's competitive spirit translated into a successful career in sales. As a top sales representative for NEST Entertainment, he played a pivotal role in the company's explosive growth, eventually becoming the East Coast Regional Vice President. Under his leadership, the company's cash flow soared from $500,000 per year to $500,000 per week within three years. In the 1990s, Doug leveraged his sales expertise as a consultant for various companies, testing new products before joining Merrill Lynch in 2000 and relocating to Corning, NY. In 2009, while at Merrill Lynch, Doug's path crossed with Dave Clark, the only professional baseball player to pitch from crutches. This meeting was not only professionally significant but also personal, as Doug's son, Gideon, was born with physical challenges similar to Dave's. Eager to learn from Dave's experiences and the approach his parents took in raising him, Doug found both a client and a friend. Inspired by Dave's remarkable life story, Doug persuaded him to share his journey with the world. Together, they co-founded the Dave Clark Foundation, Ltd., which organizes and hosts disability sports events under the banner of Disability Dream & Do (D3Day). Russ is the author of books like "Rembrandt is in the Wind" and "Van Gogh Has a Broken Heart," where he dives into the lives and works of these iconic artists. And what he uncovers is so much more than just the paintings themselves. It's about the human experience - the joy, the suffering, the hope that these artists poured into their art. We talk about how engaging with beauty and art, can actually be a window into understanding the glory of God. And how even in the midst of tragedy and heartbreak, art can help us find language for our own struggles and emotions. Greg Dyson, Campus Pastor at Taylor University, teaches from John 13. This is part two of our series "Around the Table." Greg specifically taught about Jesus washing the disciples' feet, and challenged us to serve like Jesus. He encouraged us to do the "little" things, because by living out or faith doing little things we prove that we have a faith. Pastor Steve Gill closes us with some final thoughts and a prayer.

Light Work Presents: Everything Is Connected - Season 1

On this episode, I'm joined by Samuel Levi Jones ahead of his latest solo exhibition at Vielmetter, Los Angeles, abstraction of truth. The exhibition presents a profound and timely critique of the structures that shape our understanding of authority and history. Jones' method of deconstructing books and now, flags serves as a powerful metaphor for the dismantling of the colonial and imperial narratives that continue to influence our legal and social systems. By physically tearing apart these symbols of power and reassembling them into abstract compositions, Jones not only challenges the authority of these texts but also invites viewers to question the origins and implications of the knowledge they represent.Samuel Levi Jones was born and raised in Marion, Indiana, and he lives and works in Indianapolis, Indiana. Trained as a photographer and multidisciplinary artist, he earned a B.A. in Communication Studies from Taylor University and a B.F.A from Herron School of Art and Design in 2009. He received his MFA in Studio Art from Mills College in 2012. He is the recipient of the 2014 Joyce Alexander Wein artist prize awarded by the Studio Museum in Harlem.

Doug Cornfield was a multi-sport athlete in high school and college who focused on Basketball and Track through his first year at Taylor University. After a National Championship in the 800m his freshman year at the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Track & Field Championships, Doug focused his full attention to running. Those efforts led to a full scholarship transfer to the University of Georgia (UGA) where he finished as a top contender in the SEC. Doug is still listed on several top ten performances of all time at his alma-mater UGA for both indoor and outdoor Track & Field. During his time at UGA Doug was a member of the Georgia All-State Cross Country Team. He also toured Europe in 1987 racing for Athletes in Action. Races are not all that Doug won. He became a top sales representative for a fast growing company now known as NEST Entertainment. This led to an appointment as the East Coast Regional Vice President in 1992. Sales for the company grew from $500,000 per year to a cash flow of $500,000 per week in just three years. In the 1990s, Doug went on to work for several other companies as a sales consultant to test new products. In March of 2000 Doug joined Merrill Lynch moving to Corning, NY. Doug returned to his entrepreneurial roots in 2009 when, during his time with Merrill Lynch, Doug met Dave Clark, the only professional baseball player to pitch from crutches. Doug's son, Gideon, was born with neither arm developed and one leg shorter than the other and Doug was interested in meeting Dave to learn what Dave's parents did and how they treated him as a child. Dave became both client and friend giving Doug a chance to learn more about this incredible man's journey. Doug convinced Dave to partner and promote his amazing life's story. They are now co-founders of the Dave Clark Foundation, Ltd,. The Dave Clark Foundation organizes and hosts disability sports events to encourage others within the disability community to Dream & Do. Ep. 319: Paul Pressler Lawsuit Settles IHOP cuts ties with Mike Bickle, Taylor U. gets $30 M grant

On today's program, the Southern Baptist Convention settles over a sexual abuse lawsuit against influential leader Paul Pressler.  Also, right before Christmas, the International House of Prayer officially cut ties with legendary founder Mike Bickle. We have details of Taylor University's $30 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to revitalize its local community. And we also unveil our list of the highest paid Christian ministry executives in the nation. We begin today with news that identify theft charges against Memphis pastor Steven Flockhart have been dropped. FINAL THOUGHTS: As I have said before, the end of the year is the most critical time of the year for Christian ministries, including MinistryWatch, when it comes to fundraising. We needed to raise about a quarter of our budget, about $117 thousand, in the months of November and December. I'm pleased to report today that we met that goal. We still have checks coming in the mail, but it looks like we will top out at around $140,000, which is significantly above our goal. If you were able to help us reach our goal, THANK YOU. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Four years ago, just weeks after I took over at MinistryWatch, we set a year-end goal of about $15,000. To see how we've grown over the past four years has been humbling and gratifying.  I'm grateful to God, and to you who read, listen to, and financially support our work. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh.  We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Bob Smietana, Jessica Eturralde, Daniel Ritchie, Steve Rabey, Kathryn Post, Rod Pitzer—and you, Warren. Until next time, may God bless you.

#074: Discipleship Through Scripture with Joel Lusz

This month on the M2P podcast, the team interviews Youth Pastor and author of the 12-Month Student Discipleship Journal, Joel Lusz. Joel holds a B.A. from Taylor University, an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. But more impressive than any of the degrees is the fact that Joel is a 40-year youth ministry veteran who is still serving in full-time ministry! This longevity is fueled by Joel's passion to equip kids and students to grow in their faith and deepen their relationship with God. That's why your M2P team wanted to get Joel the mic to share his thoughts on the importance of encouraging our kids and teenagers to spend dedicated time each day in God's Word, equipping them with practical tools they can use to step into a life of consistent discipleship, and creative ways to help them build habits of reading, reflection, and prayer. Joel also shares with us some thoughts on how we can help families move beyond “checklist Christianity,” where they simply go through the motions of faith and live a life where Christ truly dwells in them. Finally, Joel will give us some great insight into what is happening with teens today and encourages us to help them overcome the distractions of life and learn how to follow Jesus truly. This is an episode that you will not want to miss!

Phil's file of Christian Nationalism stories has gotten full, so we're covering a number of them this week. We explore the beliefs of early Christian Nationalists from the 1920s, how modern Christian Nationalism can't shake its racist roots, and why it's gaining popularity with some followers of Reformed theology. Skye explains what Christian Nationalism shares in common with the Prosperity Gospel, and Kaitlyn dismantles Christian Nationalists who say their views are rooted in God's design in nature. Then, we share one of our most popular Holy Post bonus features with everyone where Christian Taylor asks Skye about what the Bible really says, and does not say, about hell.
