Herders are you ready for one of the most insane creatures on planet earth? Also one of the deadliest.Blue-ringed octopuses, comprising the genus Hapalochlaena, are four extremely venomous species of octopus that are found in tide pools and coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian oceans, from Japan to Australia.[2] They can be identified by their yellowish skin and characteristic blue and black rings that change color dramatically when the animal is threatened. They eat small crustaceans, including crabs, hermit crabs, shrimp, other small sea animals. They are one of the world's most venomous marine animals.[3] Despite their small size—12 to 20 cm (5 to 8 in)—and relatively docile nature, they are very dangerous to humans if provoked when handled because their venom contains the powerful neurotoxin tetrodotoxin. The species tend to have a lifespan of approximately two to three years. This may vary depending on factors such as nutrition, temperature and the intensity of light within its habitat.

The behavioral context of ringed seal calls has not been confirmed; however, on the basis of their presence in winter and spring, Stirling et al. (1983) hypothesized that the calls are involved in intraspecific competition to maintain social structure around breathing holes in the sea ice and that they may also serve a reproductive purpose. The luminosity function of ringed galaxies by Daniil V. Smirnov et al. on Thursday 15 September We perform an analysis of the luminosity functions (LFs) of two types of ringed galaxies -- polar-ring galaxies and collisional ring galaxies -- using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Both classes of galaxies were formed as a result of interaction with their environment and they are very rare objects. We constructed LFs of galaxies by different methods and found their approximations by the Schechter function. The luminosity functions of both types of galaxies show a systematic fall-off at low luminosities. The polar structures around bright ($M_r leq -20^m$) and red ($g-r > +0.8$) galaxies are about twice as common as around blue ones. The LF of collisional rings is shifted towards brighter luminosities compared to polar-ring galaxies. We analysed the published data on the ringed galaxies in several deep fields and confirmed the increase in their volume density with redshift: up to z$sim$1 their density grows as $(1+z)^m$, where $m gtrsim 5$. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2209.06875v1

In which our hosts follow the little hero as he narrowly escapes being scorched by heoruweargs and goblins, only to be carried aloft to dizzying heights by fiercesome eagles. The antipathy toward wolves seems to go deep into human consciousness, and when we read a passage such as this from 19th century author, Willa Cather, we can understand why: A black drove came up over the hill behind the wedding party. The wolves ran like streaks of shadow; they looked no bigger than dogs, but there were hundreds of them. Something happened to the hindmost sledge: the driver lost control—he was probably very drunk—the horses left the road, the sledge was caught in a clump of trees, and overturned. The occupants rolled out over the snow, and the fleetest of the wolves sprang upon them. The shrieks that followed made everybody sober. The drivers stood up and lashed their horses. The groom had the best team and his sledge was lightest—all the others carried from six to a dozen people. Another driver lost control. The screams of the horses were more terrible to hear than the cries of the men and women. Nothing seemed to check the wolves. It was hard to tell what was happening in the rear; the people who were falling behind shrieked as piteously as those who were already lost. The little bride hid her face on the groom's shoulder and sobbed. Pavel sat still and watched his horses. The road was clear and white, and the groom's three blacks went like the wind. It was only necessary to be calm and to guide them carefully. At length, as they breasted a long hill, Peter rose cautiously and looked back. ‘There are only three sledges left,' he whispered. ‘And the wolves?' Pavel asked. ‘Enough! Enough for all of us.' - Chapter VIII of "My Antonia" by Willa Cather As for eagles, Tennyson wrote, He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ringed with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls. Eagles have always been a symbol of power, nobility, far-seeing wisdom, and the courage to act. They here constitute the escapism from certain peril which we are offered by Divine Providence. Some might call the literature that professes a Providential God "escapist" - but of such escapist literature Professor Tolkien wrote “Why should a man be scorned, if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if, when he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls? The world outside has not become less real because the prisoner cannot see it. In using Escape in this way the critics have chosen the wrong word, and, what is more, they are confusing, not always by sincere error, the Escape of the Prisoner with the Flight of the Deserter. just so a Party-spokesman might have labeled departure from the misery of the Fuhrer's or any other Reich and even criticism of it as treachery .... Not only do they confound the escape of the prisoner with the flight of the deserter; but they would seem to prefer the acquiescence of the "quisling" to the resistance of the patriot.”

In this episode of the podcast, I have explained "Arctic Refugee Drilling" and President Biden's decision about it which came few days ago. This is the last episode of "Season 1" and I have planned something very important for the next season for audience like you. Stay Tuned!Additional Info:In 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil into Alaska's Prince William Sound. Exxon spent $2 billion trying to clean up and recovered less than 7 percent of the oil spilled. In 2010, the BP Deepwater Horizon blowout spilled up to 200 million barrels into the Gulf of Mexico. Of that, only about 8 percent was recovered or burned off. Extreme conditions—including icy waves that reach 50 feet—make response in the event of an Arctic spill even more difficult. The nearest response stations to Arctic drilling sites are located thousands of miles away. For decades, Murkowski and other Alaska politicians have seen the refuge as an extension of Prudhoe Bay, the nation's largest oil field and the state's aging cash cow, which has been in steady decline since 1988. In 2017, Murkowski's daughter, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), managed to slip a provision mandating two ANWR lease sales of at least 400,000 acres each into the massive federal tax cut bill. She and the Trump Administration estimated that the oil field might ultimately generate $100 billion in revenue for the federal treasury. The financial challenges to drilling anywhere in the Arctic stem from the physical challenges—and those are increasing, thanks to fossil fuels themselves. The Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet, turning rock-hard frozen permafrost into a land of lakes, sinkholes, and boggy peat in the summer. Last June, after weeks of record high temperatures that hit over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, a giant diesel fuel tank in the Siberian city of Norilsk sank into the tundra and ruptured, spilling 21,000 metric tons (157,500 barrels) of fuel—nearly half the amount spilled by the Exxon Valdez tanker off Alaska in 1989—and creating the largest spill in modern Russian history.Arctic's abundant wildlife would be impacted by offshore drilling and a potential oil spill in the Arctic. Polar bears spend so much of their lives on the sea ice of the Arctic Ocean that they're actually classified as marine mammals. They're talented swimmers and spend more than half their time hunting for food—mainly seals. Walruses—and their unmistakable white tusks—are a mainstay of Arctic marine life. Belugas, the bright white whales of the Arctic, sit at the top of the food chain and play a crucial role in the ocean by distributing nutrients to phytoplankton. Ringed, ribbon, spotted, and bearded seals are collectively known as the “ice seals” and live on sea ice in the Arctic for at least part of the year. Expansion of oil and gas drilling in their habitat could be extremely damaging. Today, we're going to talk about the beautiful, yetextremely deadly, blue-ringed octopus. These creatures are found on Australia'scoasts.First, let's talk about what these octopuseslook like. When they don't feel threatened, they are a light beige or greyishcolor, and they have fifty to sixty light brown patches on their soft, bumpyskin. However, whenever the blue-ringed octopus feels threatened, theirappearance quickly changes, and those brown patches turn into iridescent bluerings that appear to glow. These are what the blue-ringed octopus is known for. These rings are an example of aposematism, which is a tactic used by animals toshow that they are poisonous or dangerous, in hopes of scaring away theirpredators. Other examples of aposematism would be venomous snakes, poison-dartfrogs, and many many species of insects.Anyway, the blue-ringed octopus uses aposematismto warn its predators that it is toxic. In fact, the blue-ringed octopus is themost venomous species of octopus. The venom is injected into an animal when theblue-ringed octopus bites you with its beak. When it bites, saliva is released, and inside that saliva is a neurotoxin known as maculotoxin. This toxin waslater found to be identical to tetrodotoxin, which is the stuff that you findin pufferfish and some poisonous frogs. It's a very dangerous substance, andit's more than strong enough to kill a person. This toxin is produced bycolonies of bacteria that live in the blue-ringed octopus's salivary glands.Though the blue-ringed octopus may be beautiful,if you ever find one, you must remember to avoid it.For Wild Suzhou, I'm Ciana, thanks for listeningand see you next time.

The Red Menace is a comedy news podcast, where we talk about all the weird and fun local news stories we can find. This week, we discuss night-vision goggles, the Grey Mardi Gras (don't ask), the biggest new sport, possum roommates, and spontaneous telemarketer death. It's a wild ride full of hijinks, goofs, and also a lot of swearing for which I apologise. Enjoy!
