I don't think anyone would argue that Rockadoodle was a cinematic masterpiece, even by children's movie standards, but oddly enough it does have some interesting intersections with Tolkien's Middle-earth.My prior video on “Passengers” and providence is here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UCmnGxJSl&pp=0gcJCX4JAYcqlYzvMy recent video on how Tolkien considered radically altering his mythology is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7YDFGc5j28Other Links: Playeur (formerly Utreon):https://playeur.com/c/TolkienLorePodcast/Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-355195Odysee: https://odysee.com/@TolkienLore:fTwitter: https://twitter.com/jrrtlorePatreon: https://www.patreon.com/tolkiengeekXero Shoes (affiliate link): https://xeroshoes.com/go/TolkienGeekDiscord server invite link: https://discord.gg/EVKynAj2m9 (Iflink is expired contact me at tolkienloremaster@gmail.comand I'll send a fresh invite link).

Cock-a-doodle do and how are you?Today we have a very special episode with a very special guest! We have a brand new commentary track with a brand new member of the NFG Family. Ryan Kilbane joins Frank and Peter as they revisit the 1991 Don Bluth film Rock A-Doodle. If you want to watch along, the commentary begins at 4:15. Ryan joins the boys as a donater to Extra Life, a charity dedicated to fundraising for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Believe it or not, this was his reward for donating to help kids in need! This may be our most niche watch yet. In order to prove it wasn't a fever dream, Rach shows Ty a Don Bluth classic from her youth, Rock-A-Doodle. Is it the parallel Elvis story or the earworm hits that make this so memorable? Is this tied to an ancient, medieval tale? Where did Rach's childhood fear of owls originate from? And what is that cat saying??! All of this and more will be answered in this week's rockin adventure.
CockaDOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! The gang gets into one of the coolest rockin' and rollin' cult 90s classic! Rock-A-Doodle! Another one of brilliant animator Don Bluth's work! Sloane had never laid eyes on this film and she was pretty disturbed by what she bore witness to. Zach and Hannah were both adamant that it's a solid film and deserves a place in the kid movie hall of fame. Hannah even admits this is the third podcast she's been on where she's discussed her love of barnyard crooner Chanticleer. Hannah and Zach do their best to explain the plot of this film to Sloane but she never really gets it. (Spoiler Section Length - 16min 34sec) Sometimes there's a movie from your childhood that you really loved, but you're worried about rewatching, because you know the general consensus on the film is that it's no good. And then you watch the film, and you find that the critics aren't exactly wrong, but you still like the messy movie anyway. And then you have to really examine that, figure out if it's just nostalgia talking, or if there truly are positives within the film, despite its flaws. The new episode arrives a few days later than planned (since it was scheduled to be our September episode) but nevertheless, we have a delightfully animated episode on tap here featuring another two of my favorite podcasters. The talented, prolific Billy Ray Brewton (of The Incinerator Podcast & Movie Mixtapes) joins me alongside his good friend and co-host Ryan Verrill, who also has own podcast that I highly recommend called The Disc-Connected. We learn about their passion projects and their origin stories at the start since this is their first time on! Together we three have delved into the legendary work of one Don Bluth, the man brave enough to depart from Disney at a time when their output wasn't the strongest. He set out to make his own distinguishable work and was mostly successful particularly at the start of his career as a director. Then there are a couple of weird detours along the way (oh Rock-A-Doodle) but even a late career highlight that ends up being a favorite of ours! This was such a joy and for you animation fans of the 80s and 90s, I have a feeling you'll feel as nostalgic as we did taking this journey. Coming in about three weeks - something completely different - for the next episode, I'll be stuck in another dimension alongside librarian Chloe Waryan for a spooky discussion on Mr. James Wan! What's your favorite Don Bluth movie? We bet it's not this one!
What's your favorite way to wake up in the morning? Is it a rooster singing until the sun rises? Then you're in luck, because this week we're rewatching Rock-A-Doodle (1991). Live action meets cartoon silliness in the adventurous tale of a little boy named Edmund, who's turned into a kitten by the evil Grand Duke of Owls during a terrible storm. After meeting all of the local farm animals, he learns that the only person able to save everyone from the storm (and the owls) is Chanticleer the rooster, who has the magical ability to call the sun. On their way to bring said singing friend home, the group learn about bravery, sacrifice, and the power of believing in oneself. Considering this film was relatively detested (or even forgotten) during its time, do we feel the hate was justified? Or was this a case of box office bias? Let's find out together!

Ooof! It's the movie that may have completely killed our interest in Don Bluth for a good long while. Joshua Simpson joins Jer and Dan to talk about the mismatched "Rock-A-Doodle" from 1991, a movie that appealed MAYBE to the grandparents of their target audience.
A biopic about Elvis as a rooster? Sounds fun, right? Dead. Wrong. For the 30th anniversary, Reel Rotten digs deep into the disgraceful Don Bluth film, Rock-A-Doodle (1991). The Classic Film: Pumpkinhead (1988) "After a tragic accident, a man conjures up a towering, vengeful demon called Pumpkinhead to destroy a group of unsuspecting teenagers” (IMDb.com). Famed creature creator Stan Winston's directorial debut is the sort of film that most people outside the general horror fandom probably haven't even heard of, but it garners certain respect among the faithful and for good reason. We wouldn't say it's "stellar" but it's certainly charming and very enjoyable. Oh, and Pumpkinhead be throwin' folks. The Modern Film: A Quiet Place (2018) "In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing” (IMDb.com). Oh crap. Show. Ugh, how about a Don Bluth movie? No, not one you like or have probably seen. We did Rock-A-Doodle(1991). It's about a rooster who believes he crows the sun up but the sun rises without him one morning which makes the other farm animals laugh at him. So he runs off to the city to become an Elvis impersonator. The protagonist gets sucked into his story book from the real world, gets turned into a kitten, and has to set out to bring cock of the walk back to try and stop the rain. Also there's an evil owl. Tim keeps going animated with Rover Dangerfield(1991). What kids in the … Continue reading "Popcorn Pulse 127: Rock-a-Doodle"

Cock-a-doodle-doo, mother cluckers! Have you ever watched something and walked away from it more confused than you started? Yeah. It's gonna be one of those. We're doing our first Don Bluth movie, Rock-a-Doodle. It is definitely not one of his best movies, but it's so crazy that we have to talk about it. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as we had talking about it.
