Will and James talk about volume 2 of today's manga and address how the satanic panic spread to Pokémon. Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 117: Pokémon Adventures vol. 2 Chapters 15 to 27, ‘Wartotle Wars' and ‘Kalling Kadabra' Story by Hidenori Kusaka Art by Mato English Translation by Kaori Inoue Lettering and touch up by Wayne Truman The Pokémon trainer Red is witness to his Bulbasaur evolving into an Ivysaur after fighting a Mankey (basically an angry monkey monster). Red encounters the feminine Pokémon trainer Green who tricks him into buying counterfeit items. On their second encounter he manages to get his money back and learns that her Wartotle is the evolved Squirtle that she stole from Proffesor Oak. But Green gets the last laugh because she manages to steal Red's two Gym Leader badges. (That is what Red gets for showing off) Once Red realizes what happened to his badges, he finds out that the Rocket gang is chasing after Green, in response he infiltrates the gang's HQ under a casino (sometimes depicted as a pachinko parlour) there he disguises himself as a member. Red learns of Mew's incomplete clone, the powerful psychic bio-weapon Mewtwo and that Green has a data disk on Mew that Rocket is after. Red helps green fight Rocket and with the help of her Trickster Pokémon, Ditto, who can mimic the appearance of any Pokémon, she manages to defeat Rocket and as a favour to Red, gives back the badges she took. Not long after this we see Red fossil hunting as he cuts through a route with a man named Giovanni, the gym leader of Viridian City. Red does not know that Giovanni is spying on Red. Upon determining that Red is not a threat to him the two then part ways and Giovanni gives Red a Fossil. After numerous adventures including being stranded in the safari zone with no Pokémon and almost drowning before being saved by Misty. Red ends up having to save the Fire Pokémon expert Blaine from the Rocket gang. Blaine is a researcher who worked on cloning Mew for the Rocket gang but has changed face and is now out to stop them. Blaine learns that Red has a fossil and so he sends him on Rapidash back to his lab. There Red figures out how to use Blaine's fossil machine to bring life to an extinct Pokémon. And so Red acquires an Aerodactyl and uses it to save Blaine from the Rocket gang. Causing the gang to retreat. In some way to go anywhere means to go forward and to go far means to return. Red returns to Pallet Town to meet Professor Oak once again, only this time it is an imposter. And no, we will not spoil the identity of the imposter on this podcast. The volume ends with all the Rocket gang members having captured all three legendary bird Pokémon, Koga has the ice bird Articuno, Sabrina has the fire bird Moltress and Lt. Surge has the electric Pokémon Zapdos. The final battle between the Rocket gang and the trainers will take place in Saffron City. In the meantime, a psychic barrier has been put up on Saffron City until then. A Little Context: · Satanic panic of the 80's saw a resurgence with Pokémon, the franchise was accused of teaching kids about the occult according to theists. This is due to many things. One is that Kadabra (Sabina's Pokémon) looking suspiciously like Baphomet, a humanoid goat person, with the star on his head indicating a pentagram). · But some people have used more outlandish excuses to convince others that Pokémon is a way for the Devil to take control of kids, (note that that the prior link is the full video of which only a small fraction was heard on this episode) albeit the argument is more against Capitalism being aimed at children if anything. · kids had seizures whilst watching an episode of the Pokémon anime. This did in fact happen, although not due to some unexplained magic phenomena. The seizures occurred because there was one specific scene in what is considered a “banned episode” of the anime known as “Electric Soldier Porygon” where because of the flashing lights on screen it induced a seizure in those who had photo-sensitive epilepsy. A positive of this episode is that it helped create awareness of the condition with it now being standard practice not to have scenes like this in TV, at least not without disclaimers. · Did the Pope (John Paul II) actually give Pokémon his blessing? According to a new York Times article the response to the first movie coming out had the Vatican denounce the controversy, Sat2000, a satellite TV station run by the Vatican said “The trading-card and computer game is “full of inventive imagination,” The game did not have “any harmful moral side effects” and was based on “ties of intense friendship”. Sat2000 also said the game told simple stories which allowed children “to enter directly into the story” through role-playing adventures. Also, according to Father Jeffrey V. Romans, his blog states that “oftentimes, these fears and crazes come from a lack of knowledge about a subject or a couple of pieces of sensationalized journalism. Don't fall into the devil's trap! Let's all endeavor to take a close look at these types of subjects before forming a fiery, ironclad opinion”.

Apparently seeking to clean up a Saffron City that's rotten to the core, Dorito Doug decides to burn it to the ground. After making such a move that's clearly not on-brand for Doritos, he's forced to cool his heels down south for a while. On the journey to Cinnabar Island, he and Caprica-Six are joined by "Daniel" aka Daniel Golson, whose team is like a delicious bowl full of pasta and named thusly. The trio debates saving the many struggling Swimmers on Routes 19-20 but ultimately decides that's the Kanto Coast Guard's problem, which may or may not exist. On Cinnabar, Caprica-Six is finally able to replace Golbat the Golbat after tapping into the Cinnabar Lab's resurrection technology. Then, they try to continue their gym challenge but are forced to scour the depths of the Pokémon Mansion in search of a key that lets them into Blaine's Gym, which is also a wildly fun trivia show. After those fun and games though, it's time to determine who will retain or take over EXP. Share's IP in the first guest battle of the season! Notes: Thanks to Daniel Golson for joining us! Follow him and his sweet rides @dsgolson on Instagram & Twitter.
Look forward to some, frankly, phoned-in eulogies because Dorito Doug lost a ‘mon none of you had even MET yet and Caprica-Six can't manage to keep the ‘mon she lost this week alive even if the fate of the entire human race depended on it. Which, I guess, isn't all the consequential to a Cylon. Otherwise, we pulverized the Power Plant. Destroyed the Dojo. Saved Silph. Sacked Sabrina's gym. And Tanner managed to do all of that while only cheating just a little!

Hello there! Welcome to Professor Jacob's 116th lesson on Pokémon biology. This lesson is all about Horsea: the Dragon Pokémon. For virtual students who tuned in last week, our school (and half of Saffron City) was destroyed in the Kangaskhan earthquake. Despite this mishap, we are making the best of it by having class on the beach of Cinnabar Island, which allows us to encounter Horsea in its natural habitat! Horsea is a tiny water type that shoots blank ink from its mouth at attackers and small bug Pokémon. Horsea also love to dance and create whirlpools for fun. Sometimes they'll compete with each other to see who can form the biggest one! Isn't that simply adorable? There's more to learn about Horsea, so be sure to take good notes! Welcome to the World of Pokémon is part of the Poke Casters Network.
It's the Volume 2 finale! After his adventures in Cinnabar Island, Red has decided to go back to Pallet Town. But when he gets there he finds his hometown is completely deserted! And to make matters worse Professor Oak immediately starts attacking Red as soon as he sees him! What is goin on? What has happened to Pallet Town? And what is going on at Saffron City? Why can't anyone go inside? Find all this out on today's episode!Music Credit: Route 26 by Zame! In this episode, Derik and Ceci take over for Professor Oak given his hypnotism by Alakazam - I guess being previously possessed made him more susceptible to hypnotism? After failing to defeat Sabrina, Ash arrives in Lavender Town to capture a ghost Pokémon, and ends up in a chilling journey that turns out to have a much less sinister motive behind it. Haunter accompanies Ash back to Saffron City, where he finally gets his rematch with Sabrina and her Kadabra. Chris, Eric, and Dan discuss these two episodes.
"We" made a mistake with the Kanto gym order and so this week, we're covering the journey over from Johto on the fast ship S.S. Aqua—where Stanner & Will N. Testament search for an errant girl and lazy sailors. Once back on dry land in Vermilion City, they survey the beautiful harbor but quickly discover that otherwise, the town hasn't changed much in three years. The Machop are still stomping around the empty lot, not building anything, and the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman is still lusting after his Rapidash. After raiding Lt. Surge's trash and short-circuiting his team, they head north to take on Sabrina in Saffron... and then take a misguided respite on the Cerulean Cape where they both bond over a shared trauma from an unexpected source.
We continue a spelunking, broadcasting from the roof of the tallest building in Saffron City! The party chases down a fierce opponent to save their little Roggenrola buddy. Do they succeed??? Depends on your expectations. A new show is teased at the end, so I guess you have to stick around for that!!!
In this week's episode, Ash and the Haunter from Lavender Town challenge Sabrina at the Saffron City gym to earn a Marsh badge. It's mating season, at least for Butterfree. This week on the way to Saffron City, Ash learns that most Butterfree during this season leave their trainers to start families of their own. Let's watch this episode and say goodbye to Ash's first caught pokemon!
While out on the town, Joshua & Mr. Mime hear a rumor that the Celadon Game Corner is actually a criminal outfit. They investigate, and discover that the seedy underbelly of the city extends far beyond—to Lavender Town and Saffron City too. They set out to clean up the mean streets of Celadon, whereupon they receive the unimpressive Silph Scope. It reveals a new area where the trainers can catch a Pokémon—Pokémon Tower—in which they also confront their rival, who is apparently also on a Nuzlocke run because his Raticate died. Sad! With another arm of Team Rocket shut down, they return to Saffron to both cleanse the source of corruption at Silph Co. and face off against Gym Leader Sabrina. By the end of it, they'll need to rename Saffron City to "Crimson City" because its streets will run with Pokémon blood.
Poke-Fans rejoice! The boys are back and at it again this week as they take on Sabrina T̶h̶e̶ ̶T̶e̶e̶n̶a̶g̶e̶ ̶W̶i̶t̶c̶h̶, and all her magical friends! Rocky, Ian and Sergio also talk Pokemon Go and a hidden canonical timeline for the mainline Pokemon games? Could this be true!? Listen to find out! As the Mt. Silver boys continue to fly through Kanto, they hit the city for the anime's fourth gym – Saffron City. They discuss the terrible plot in the anime involving Lavender Town, the actual RBY plot for Lavender Town, the unstoppable Psychics of Gen 1, and the three-parter episode itself.
Look at all those places! Joshua & Fjelstan go up down and around Kanto to restore power to the region. But first they get a tour of the surprisingly solvent Silph Co. and take on Sabrina in Saffron. Then, they head east because once again, two children need to solve everyone's problems and fix the Power Plant. In Lavender Town, they're disturbed to the Radio Tower is powered by the souls of dead Pokémon, and run away into the Rock Tunnel. On the other side, they accidentally ruin Misty's date, and after discovering the missing part for the Power Plant, they leave her sleeping with the fishes. Ash has just left Saffron City but there's no time for him to rest! Firstly, in Primeape Goes Bananas Ash and the gang encounter an extremely mischievous Mankey that evolves into a Primeape. Luckily, by the end of the episode, Ash would catch Primeape (although don't get too attached).Next up, in Pokémon Scent-sation Ash arrives in Celadon City to go after his fifth gym badge already! After angering Erika at her perfume shop, Ash eventually sneaks his way in and inadvertently causes the whole gym to burn down. He got the gym badge in the end too, not a bad days work if you ask me. On today's episode, we continue and wrap up the mini Saffron City arc. Firstly, in The Tower of Terror Ash sets out to catch a Ghost Pokémon in Lavender Town's Pokémon Tower. After many shenanigans (and temporarily dying!) Ash manages to "catch" his very own Haunter. In the next episode, Haunter Versus Kadabra, Haunter follows Ash back to Saffron City for the big climactic showdown with Sabrina. After a brief Christmas hiatus, we are back with two huge episodes. Firstly, we jump into Bye Bye Butterfree. I'm sure you're all aware why this is a major episode, but if not, this is the episode where Ash says goodbye to Butterfree for good? With newly acquired HM 03 Surf, Joshua & Mr. Squirt venture up north to see what's up in the dilapidated Power Plant. They then slake the Saffron City's guard's thirst with drinks from the Celadon Department Store just to find another city riddled with crime. The trainers do what they do best and kick Giovanni out of the C-Suite and are rewarded with a Master Ball from the Silph Co. President—despite frequently ridiculing the company's (bad) products. They then take on the fake gym Fighting Dojo before defeating Erica to receive the sixth badge.
I hope you're ready for another 3 episode story arc! This week, we're in Saffron City, and we're real sleepy. Two Big Sleepy Boys.
