Japanese media franchise
POPULARITY
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon, aka Pocket Monster (Poketto Monsutā). From games and cards to television and movies, Pokémon has defined generations and inspired the entire world. It is more popular today than ever. People steal the cards in major heists, which have gone global, and others use the cards for money laundering. Those of us growing up with this type entrainment, including general anime and manga, were probably told it was stupid and a waste of time and money. But the Japanese beg to differ. These things are an expression of their culture, one that is so influential it has touched the entire world in profound ways. The current Prime Minister quotes Attack on Titan and the government as a whole has decided to help boost these industries, including video games, with 500-billion yen over five years, not because they are failing but due to the fact they are such a key component of the culture — to help spread them while they are already on fire. From storytelling to artwork, and from pushing the boundaries of free speech and creativity to the fantasy and imagination outlet they provide for adults and children. Naturally there are some that despite anime, manga, and video games. They attempt to adulterate them, poison them, and even ban them. Legislation in Texas seeks to ban this part of Japanese culture while various Christian and Jewish groups have over the years argued for the same. Why? Certainly because of religious bigotry, and due to misunderstandings of culture. But could there be more to the story? Perhaps the hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine characters, the archetypical storylines, and the very issue of pushing the boundaries of censorship are highly offensive to a particular agenda. Hentai, for example, sits at the top of most major porn searches naturally and clearly interferes with the artificial propping up of abuse, incest, and LGBTQ content. The same goes for the JAV industry. The pedo argument against anime and manga is popular, but fails to account for key details: the drawings are not human, these things are not just things for kids, the kawaii aesthetic is not understood, fantasy is seen differently, and women make up a signifiant portion of the industry. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on femininity and beauty in Japan whereas ruggedness fills that role in the U.S. Besides, which country has more pedos and more domestic violence? It's not Nippon. Others argue that this kind of entertainment is not productive, despite the Japanese being considered some of those productive people in the world. Meanwhile, America is seen as increasingly lazier. Perhaps the issue is and what these forms of entertainment inspire people to do. Numerous cases exist internationally of people helping others because they were inspired by fictional manga and anime characters. While most of these so-called cartoons can inspire people to do good things, role models in the west often include lowlife degenerates. The One Piece series has even inspired political resistance to tyranny in Asia. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements.

Released on September 26, 2024, it is the first main Legend of Zelda game with Princess Zelda as the main playable character.Players control Zelda on a quest to save Link and the kingdom of Hyrule using the Tri Rod, a magical artifact provided by the fairy Tri, who assists her. The visual style is similar to that of the 2019 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, which Grezzo also developed.Echoes of Wisdom was released worldwide on the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024 to generally favorable reviews. The player controls Princess Zelda, who can use the power of the magical Tri Rod to create "echoes", which are imitations of objects and monsters that can be used freely. However, there is a limit on how many can be summoned and each echo has a different cost; how many echoes can be created is indicated by the number of triangles visible behind Tri.[4][5] She can also "bind" objects with Bond, allowing an object to move with her, or move with an object using Reverse Bond.[6][7] In addition to having echoes fight enemies, Zelda can fight enemies directly by wielding a sword that transforms her into the Swordfighter form, which resembles Link.[8] This form can only be used for a limited time before its energy must be replenished by collecting orbs of energy found in the Still World.[9]Zelda can travel through various methods, including echoes, fast travel sites called Waypoints, on foot, or on horseback. She can also change outfits or equipment and combine ingredients to purchase smoothies.[10]The Pokémon Trading Card Game (ポケモンカードゲーム, Pokemon Kādo Gēmu, "Pokémon Card Game"), abbreviated as PTCG or Pokémon TCG, is a collectible card game developed by Creatures Inc. based on the Pokémon franchise. Standard gameplay cards include Pokémon cards, energy cards, trainer cards, and stadium cards, a variant of trainer cards. Pokémon cards contain data about the creature's type, and where it came from, attacks, ability, and HP as well as any special effects the cards have on the game. Basic (unevolved) Pokémon can change into their evolved forms during the game by playing subsequent evolution cards in the deck. Energy cards can be attached to Pokémon cards to power up attacks, and trainer cards can be used for different effects on the game. Card effects often rely on elements of luck, such as dice rolls and coin tosses, to decide an outcome. Counters are stacked on top of cards in play to indicate damage dealt, and players may choose to put their Pokémon cards on a bench to switch to a different attacker. The game was originally released in Japan by Media Factory in 1996 as Pocket Monsters, which was based on the Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow Game Boy video games. Beginning in 1998, Pokémon trading cards were released in North America by Wizards of the Coast, which was known at the time for producing Magic: The Gathering. Wizards of the Coast released one demo set and eight expansion sets of cards for the first generation of Pokémon as well as nine expansion sets for the second generation of Pokémon. In June 2003, publishing rights were transferred from Wizards to The Pokémon Company. Since the release of EX Ruby and Sapphire in 2003,

We're back to Mining Media for this month, because I keep seeing "How do you hack 5e to do Pokemon?!" and I don't have the hair to tear out over it... so let's talk bringing everyone's favorite monster catcher/befriender to the table! The thing about Pokemon is that it's so much more than just an 8-bit handheld video game now, there's multiple TV series, video game series, manga, movies (even a live-action one with the guy who plays Deadpool!), a card game! So where do you begin thinking about how to port to the table with dice? I think the thing that most RPGs made to replicate the Pokemon experience miss is the relationship between the Trainer and the Pokemon. Lots of games have been made that break down the battle mechanics of the games REALLY well, but that's really not as interesting as the story of the Trainers in a world with Pokemon, which makes the environmental storytelling potential INCREDIBLE. So here are the take home points: If you're looking for games to play that can do Pokemon, I'd recommend Animon Story by Zak Barouh, or the podcast Critical Ditto's hack of Monster of the Week, appropriately called Pocket Monster of the Week Focus less on the combat and worrying about the numbers when battling, and more on the relationship and out-of-combat potential of your 'mon pals. Those are going to be what make your story shine more than the battling. Lean into the possibilities of the world where creatures can have such profound impacts on their surroundings, and make interesting encounters about problems from those that don't just have solutions involving combat. Make your evil organizations understandable given the truths of the region you're playing in and make sure they're defensible by the NPCs in the world, otherwise why would they still be around? And, if you're still reading this, go get some of the Pokemon Adventures manga, they're so good... We try not to think about the Pocket Monsters we've left in the box for the last 20 years as we read a love story between a trainer and their huge flying bug with psychic powers. While we're at it, we argue over what happens to Pokemon while they're in their balls, and which interpretation is the most disturbing. I wanna be the very best, or at least passable in the eyes of my peers. See, that's the difference between you and I. You pick a Charmander because it's the only one that gets to learn fly when it's fully evolved, but that's just the easy route. It works, yeah. But have you ever considered a Squirtle? It's the only one that doesn't get any dual typing at all, that's the true patriot's path. Back in my day we had to evolve uphill both ways, you damn kids have it too easy, everybody should have to suffer like I did. What was I talking about? Oh right, this episode is talking about Smashterpiece #45: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, our first real Pokemon game. Things did not go according to plan. That's another thing you young'uns don't get: plans! And home ownership! Anyways we're joined by our friend Devon as we delve into the region of Kanto for a remake of the original Pocket Monster collecting games. Who are you? Where are my teeth?Join us next time as we return to Planet Zebes but this time for the first time in Smashterpiece #46: Metroid: Zero Mission

On this highly collectible episode of the Popzara Podcast our own trainers Cory Galliher and Nia Bothwell join the gym to take on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, their journeys to becoming true Pokémon Masters, and the evolution of all-things Pokémon. Do Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have technical hiccups? You bet!. Does that detract much from the experience? Not really. It's a snark-free chat about the latest chapter in one of Nintendo's best-selling franchises, as well as the evolution of Satoshi Tajiri / Game Freak's eternally popular series from the early days of 2D pocket monsters to recent 3D updates like Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It's a journey from Game Boy to Switch and everything in-between, and who better than a duo of true Poke Nerds taking a little nostalgia trip with a few thousand of their dearest friends?
