A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool
From 1997 to 1999, the gaming industry underwent a series of significant transformations that redefined its landscape. In 1997, as 3D gaming continued to revolutionize the industry, Sony's PlayStation emerged dominant, but it wasn't without challenges, as both Nintendo and Sega grappled with changing dynamics. A notable highlight was the intriguing saga of "Duke Nukem Forever" and its impact on the perception of game development. By 1998, the gaming world celebrated a milestone as it was recognized as a bona fide art form, with awards honoring its creative achievements. This was juxtaposed with controversies surrounding violent game content, even as Sega's Dreamcast ushered in the sixth console generation with its cutting-edge features. The year 1999 witnessed the meteoric rise of indie developers and the massive success of Pokemon, a phenomenon that transcended the gaming sphere. Additionally, Hollywood's foray into gaming, exemplified by Stephen Spielberg's "Medal of Honor", signaled a major shift, while legal battles like Sony Corporation v. Bleem LLC emphasized the importance of intellectual property and sparked debates on emulation.Featured Games:Final Fantasy VII, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, GoldenEye 007, The Curse of Monkey Island, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Age of Empires, Ultima Online, Sonic Jam, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Half-Life, Unreal, Pokemon Red and Blue, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Super Smash Bros, StarCraft, System Shock 2, Age of Empires II, and RollerCoaster Tycoon. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ (00:00) - Episode 5 (00:06) - 1997 (30:19) - 1998 (46:55) - 1999 Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme
Finally, proof from outside just our hosts that Zoombinis are real. If you've been a Zoombini truther than thank you for all the work you've put in over the years....or, wait, I guess maybe not if being a truther is someone who doesn't believe they existed? Sheesh, manufacturing engagement over a fake conspiracy is harder than it seems. In this episode: David tries to find the failure point. Josh wants to drop the bridge. Greg does it to himself. It's hard to imagine that at one point in history Pokémon did not exist, and then one moment it was everywhere. In North America it's now been 25 years since we've been blessed with Pokemon Red and Blue, two of the most iconic games of many peoples childhoods. The music, the sounds, the battles, the characters, the fact that Charizard can't learn fly for some reason. These games are legendary in their myths and memories (no truck rumour to get Mew did not exist), and there are so many unique and interesting stories to tell regarding these games. Neil and Mike are joined by friend of the show Luigi of @luigisappartment fame to reminisce and delve into the immense social impact that these games had on kids and adults alike.

"PRESS THE BUTTON GARRETT!" madharryrackham hears it, but it's a much easier task now under the Channel3.gg umbrella. madharryrackham AKA Garrett steps away from his role as the seed master of Rocket League for The Dad Gaming and Channel 3 to talk with us about Pokemon Red and Blue, Destiny, and The Binding of Isaac. Of course we then make our way into honorable mentions and more (don't worry the Rocket League guy does have Rocket League in there somewhere). Check out all of madharryrackham's links at https://c3.gg/madharryrackham Our hosts' links can be found at https://c3.gg/elrey and https://c3.gg/dantucker The show is Executive Produced by Channel 3 Founder Joel Willis who can be found at https://c3.gg/joel About Channel3.gg: Channel3.gg is a social networking built from the ground up for gamers. Sure you can do all the stuff like on the old social medias like post pictures, videos, comments and the like. Channel 3 is so much more than that though. It takes the social media experience and game-ifies it. Made a great post that someone likes (1-ups) or respawns? You earn XP experience points that level you up. New levels mean chances to spin the C3 prize wheel, earn digital flair for your profile, and more. Additionally there are weekly events hosted by Channel 3 that let the community unwind and kick back with a little friendly competition. Sure, you want to win but it's more about hanging out and the vibes. These events are hosted on C3's Twitch Channel and also earn XP for participants. XP can also be earned for completing quests-questions related to games and being a gamer, challenges where you go forth and complete a task in a game, rating & reviewing games and systems, creating specifically themed lists of games and more.
