Our exit today has us searching for love and trying to commit. This week, we are looking at two romantic comedies with some notable names in front of the camera, but did not do well at the box office. The first is Three to Tango, and the second is The Bachelor. Both films are trying to make movie stars of their leading men: Matthew Perry and Chris O'Donnell. Along the way, there is lots of talk of Buster Keaton (whose film Seven Chances inspired The Bachelor), sitcom plots, wonderful character actors, bad depictions of Chicago, golden-age screwball comedies, and Tripp keeps trying to recast these movies. This week's Keaton double feature sees our unflappable hero chased by two types of terrifying crowds: angry would-be brides, and a herd of cattle. How does he outrun them both? Jamie Loftus joins us to chat about Buster Keaton's tremendous on-screen running (up there with Tom Cruise), his enduring sex appeal (we love a hot tired guy), and his compassion for animals (giving the bovine star of GO WEST a week off to have sex). Back at it again with the silent movies, but with a title featuring Buster Keaton, how could Stuart and Jacob refuse! The film was taken and remade a number of times, with one of the most recent interpretations being right before the turn of the century, replacing Keaton with Chris O'Donnell. Surprisingly, besides a more modern setting there are a lot more similarities between the two than there are differences. But don't worry, our hosts still have plenty to work with. This episode contains discussion of Kingdom Hearts (uh-oh!), Stuart's new D&D campaign, "Breckin Meyer energy", and a long detailed analysis on The Bachelor's version of the Bridal Run. We don't review many romantic comedies on this show, but when we do... Buster Keaton's typically eccentric take on the genre is our film of the week, with Eureka's new Blu-Ray of Seven Chances under Graham, Sarah and Tim's respective microscopes. In more characteristic features, Graham has The Wind from Arrow Video. It's a slasher from Niko Mastorakis, a man with an amazing life story and a spot on the video nasties list. Defying all conventions, on the other hand, Tim has Dreamland, a surrealist vampire neo-noir from the director of Pontypool. And Mark's Bond retrospective hits the Daniel Craig era, its final instalment... until November.
