Depuis des siècles, Stonehenge fascine autant qu'il intrigue. Mais parmi toutes ses énigmes, l'une est particulièrement tenace : l'origine des “pierres bleues”, ces blocs de plusieurs tonnes qui ne proviennent pas du tout de la région où le monument est érigé. Pendant longtemps, leur présence a semblé presque inexplicable.Ces pierres bleues — une quarantaine à l'origine — sont des roches volcaniques et métamorphiques, différentes des grands blocs de grès visibles aujourd'hui. Dès le XXᵉ siècle, les géologues établissent qu'elles proviennent du pays de Galles, à plus de 200 kilomètres de Stonehenge. Une distance colossale pour des sociétés néolithiques ne disposant ni de roue, ni de métal, ni d'animaux de trait.Comment ces pierres ont-elles été transportées ? Deux hypothèses se sont longtemps affrontées. La première, spectaculaire, évoquait un transport humain volontaire, par radeaux, traîneaux et rouleaux de bois, sur des générations entières. La seconde proposait une origine naturelle : les pierres auraient été déplacées par les glaciers lors des dernières glaciations, puis réutilisées sur place par les bâtisseurs.C'est précisément ce débat qu'une étude récente est venue raviver — et peut-être trancher. Publiée dans la revue Communications Earth & Environment, cette recherche est menée par deux scientifiques de l'Université Curtin, en Australie.Leur travail repose sur une analyse fine de la géologie et de la dynamique glaciaire britannique. Leur conclusion est claire : aucun glacier connu n'aurait pu transporter ces pierres jusqu'à la plaine de Salisbury. Les modèles climatiques et géomorphologiques montrent que les glaces se sont arrêtées bien plus à l'ouest. En revanche, elles auraient pu déplacer certaines pierres jusqu'au sud-ouest du pays de Galles, où elles auraient ensuite été récupérées.Autrement dit, les pierres bleues n'ont pas voyagé seules jusqu'à Stonehenge. Elles ont été extraites, choisies et transportées intentionnellement par des humains sur des centaines de kilomètres. Cette conclusion renforce l'idée que Stonehenge n'est pas seulement un exploit architectural, mais aussi un projet social et symbolique majeur, mobilisant des communautés entières.Pourquoi faire un tel effort ? De plus en plus d'archéologues pensent que les pierres bleues avaient une valeur rituelle ou identitaire particulière. Leur provenance lointaine aurait renforcé leur prestige, leur pouvoir symbolique, voire spirituel. Stonehenge ne serait donc pas seulement un observatoire ou un calendrier, mais un lieu de mémoire et de rassemblement, reliant différentes régions de la Grande-Bretagne néolithique.Ce que cette étude récente change profondément, c'est notre regard sur ces sociétés anciennes. Loin d'être primitives, elles étaient capables de planification à long terme, de coopération à grande échelle et de choix culturels sophistiqués. Le mystère des pierres bleues n'est peut-être pas totalement résolu… mais il révèle déjà une chose essentielle : Stonehenge est l'œuvre d'une ambition humaine bien plus grande qu'on ne l'imaginait. Cela peut sembler étrange, voire inquiétant, mais oui : nos dents peuvent contenir… des pierres. Pas au sens des cailloux qu'on trouve dans un jardin, bien sûr, mais sous la forme de petites calcifications appelées pulpolithes. Invisibles à l'œil nu, ces formations minérales nichées au cœur de la dent sont en réalité bien plus courantes qu'on ne le croit. Alors, comment apparaissent-elles, et faut-il s'en inquiéter ?Pour comprendre ce phénomène, il faut d'abord faire un petit détour par l'anatomie dentaire. À l'intérieur de chaque dent se trouve un tissu mou appelé pulpe dentaire. C'est elle qui contient les nerfs et les vaisseaux sanguins de la dent. La pulpe joue un rôle central dans la croissance, la sensibilité et la défense contre les agressions extérieures.Avec l'âge ou à la suite de certaines stimulations — comme un traumatisme, une carie profonde ou une intervention dentaire — il arrive que cette pulpe réagisse en produisant des dépôts de calcium. Ces dépôts se solidifient peu à peu, formant alors une petite pierre à l'intérieur même de la dent : c'est le pulpolithe.Sur le plan médical, les pulpolithes sont extrêmement fréquents, surtout chez les personnes de plus de 50 ans. Ils peuvent aussi apparaître plus tôt chez les patients ayant eu de nombreuses restaurations dentaires ou une inflammation chronique de la pulpe. Bonne nouvelle : dans la grande majorité des cas, ils ne provoquent aucune douleur, ni symptôme particulier. En fait, on les découvre le plus souvent par hasard, lors d'une radiographie dentaire.Mais alors, pourquoi en parler ? Parce que ces petites pierres, bien qu'inoffensives, peuvent poser un problème en cas de traitement endodontique, c'est-à-dire lorsqu'un dentiste doit intervenir à l'intérieur de la dent, par exemple pour une dévitalisation. Le pulpolithe peut alors bloquer l'accès aux canaux ou compliquer le nettoyage, rendant l'intervention plus longue et plus délicate.Faut-il les faire retirer ? Pas du tout, sauf en cas de traitement spécifique. Les pulpolithes ne grossissent pas indéfiniment et ne mettent pas la dent en danger. Ils font partie des nombreuses curiosités du corps humain : des témoins silencieux du vieillissement naturel de nos tissus.En résumé, si un jour votre dentiste vous parle d'une "petite pierre dans votre dent", pas de panique : ce n'est ni une urgence, ni une anomalie. Imaginez la Normandie du XVIIᵉ siècle. Des campagnes verdoyantes, des petits bourgs, et soudain… la colère qui gronde. En 1639, les paysans normands se soulèvent. On appellera cet épisode la révolte des Nu-pieds. Pourquoi ce nom ? Parce que ces insurgés, souvent modestes, se battaient pieds nus, symbole de leur misère mais aussi de leur détermination.Un impôt qui met le feu aux poudresLe contexte est tendu. La France est engagée dans la terrible guerre de Trente Ans. Pour financer l'effort militaire, la monarchie a besoin d'argent, toujours plus d'argent. Et quand il faut remplir les caisses, la solution est simple : augmenter les impôts. En Normandie, la cible est la gabelle, l'impôt sur le sel.Or, jusqu'ici, la région bénéficiait d'un régime fiscal plus léger. Quand la Couronne décide d'alourdir la taxe, c'est la goutte de trop. Pour les paysans, les artisans, même certains notables, le sel n'est pas un luxe : c'est une nécessité quotidienne. Le nouveau prélèvement est vécu comme une injustice criante.Le roi des Nu-piedsLa révolte éclate à Avranches et se répand comme une traînée de poudre. À la tête des insurgés, un avocat local, Jean Quetil, bientôt surnommé le roi des Nu-pieds. Des milliers d'hommes, mais aussi de femmes et d'enfants, prennent part au soulèvement. Ils s'attaquent aux bureaux de la gabelle, malmènent les collecteurs, brûlent les registres. Le message est clair : assez d'impôts, assez de contraintes venues de Paris.Richelieu contre la NormandieMais à Paris, on ne plaisante pas avec la contestation. Le cardinal de Richelieu, tout-puissant ministre de Louis XIII, envoie les grands moyens. Le chancelier Pierre Séguier et des troupes commandées par le maréchal de Gassion débarquent en Normandie. Très vite, l'armée royale reprend la main.La répression est terrible. Des exécutions publiques sont organisées pour l'exemple, des villages incendiés. La violence est telle que la révolte est étouffée en quelques mois à peine.Plus qu'une simple jacquerieAlors, que retenir ? Bien sûr, les Nu-pieds ont perdu. Mais leur combat révèle un malaise profond : celui d'un peuple qui accepte mal l'impôt, surtout quand il paraît arbitraire et inégal. Comme l'explique l'historien Jean Nicolas, ce n'était pas une jacquerie isolée, mais un épisode d'un cycle plus vaste de révoltes antifiscales qui ponctuent tout le XVIIᵉ siècle.Un héritage de résistanceAujourd'hui encore, la révolte des Nu-pieds reste dans la mémoire comme l'un de ces moments où des communautés locales ont osé défier le pouvoir central. Elle raconte la difficulté d'un État qui, en cherchant à se renforcer, s'est souvent heurté à la résistance de ses sujets.En somme, les Nu-pieds n'étaient pas seulement des paysans en colère : ils étaient les porte-voix d'une société qui refusait de se laisser écraser par l'impôt et par la monarchie absolue naissante.
