Back on the sub, Kate, Benson, and Simon Bell try and untangle the events that lead to Noel's death. The hurricane worsens topside and prevents the CETO crew from ascending to the Mosby. Simon insists that they attempt to go back into the Titanic while they are stuck below anyway. Kate's findings from her traumatic dive lead her to support Simon despite their very different reasons for wanting to return to the Titanic. Against Benson's wishes, Kate returns to the Titanic to retrieve further samples of the mysterious substance she found with Noel. While on Titanic, Kate discovers the second artifact - a diamond encrusted skull - but is nearly killed in the process. With Caleb's help, she escapes only to find there has been a violent disaster with Bell and Benson on the sub. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
“Fashion is a really easy way to get in because it doesn't really involve any sacrifice, does it? I think for a lot of people, the thought of going vegan food-wise just seems like a really big deal. Whereas buying a vegan handbag, you get to buy a beautiful handbag and it's vegan.” Annick Ireland Even though it's 2023 and it feels like much of the world is at least dipping their toes into all things plant-based, it can still be a challenge to navigate the world of vegan fashion. Shoes, boots, bags, coats and anything else that was once made with animal products, is now being made with sustainable, cruelty-free and stunningly beautiful materials, but because this industry is still in its infancy, finding the brands can be tricky. Enter Annick Ireland, the co-Founder & CEO of Immaculate Vegan, an online vegan marketplace that is changing the world for animal loving shoppers. Immaculate Vegan was launched in 2019 by Annick and her co-founder, Simon Bell because they wanted to help people to make better choices that positively impact animals, people and the planet when they shop. They offer a 100% vegan, highly curated collection of premium fashion using the most innovative and sustainable materials — all made ethically, and amplified by original content and an engaged community of changemakers. Simon Bell is a great friend of The Shrewsbury Biscuit. In-fact Simon was the first ever guest for The Biscuit, all those years ago.Simon joins us on the show today to talk about his new book called "Remembering The Holocaust and the Impact on Societies Today" which of course offers a difficult, but important point of discussion. Having read this book from cover to cover Alex absorbed it all on a molecular lever. The book talks about how certain nations dealt with the displacement and threat that was made against the Jewish community by the Nazis in World War 2. A lot of the language, behaviour and alarm presented by worldwide communities (show by Simon with extensive referencing and evidence) rings an eerie bell with today's society. This leaves Alex with many questions for Simon. One of the questions being "Are humans naturally evil?"I appreciate that this may a difficult topic for some, but it is important for us to learn about these things so we can move forward, with lessons we have learned from the past. Simon is a stunning guest and I'm always in awe speaking to him. Regardless of the subject, I hope you enjoy this episode. I will leave a link for the book here, get yourself a copy and help a local author - Alex https://www.amazon.co.uk/Remembering-Holocaust-Impact-Societies-Today/dp/1399012096

After almost two years, the Roald Dahl Retrospective is back! In honor of Matilda the Musical being in the theaters, Arun and Patricia catch up with the remaining Roald Dahl adaptations before jumping into this new film. In this episode, they cover the 1976 BBC special James and the Giant Peach based on the 1961 book of the same name starring Simon Bell, Anna Quayle, Ann Beach, Arthur Hewlett, Andrew Sachs, Thorley Walters, Pat Coombs, Kate Lock, and Bernard Cribbins. James Trotter lives with his mean aunts Spiker and Sponge after losing his parents from a rhino attack. An old man gifts James crocodile tongues to make his dreams come true, but drops them accidentally. It ends up growing a peach to a large size. James and a group of insects escape inside the peach and use it to venture off away from Aunts Spiker and Sponge. The 1976 version of James and the Giant Peach is one of the obscure Roald Dahl adaptions ever made and has since been overshadowed by the 1996 Disney adaptation. Is this version better or worse? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support
In Beneath's series premiere, the book-smart, reticent DR. CALEB PEELS, a professor of ancient religion, has been recruited by the eccentric billionaire and adventurer SIMON BELL and finds himself on a sea-tossed research vessel bound for the Titanic wreckage. Caleb has been hired to decipher the mysterious writings of his own great uncle, who drowned on Titanic. Bell is convinced the journal will lead them to an incredible discovery - three priceless Babylonian artifacts. On the research vessel Caleb meets the salty first mate SUE TELIT, the gruff submarine pilot G.L. BENSON, the bubble-gum popping young diver NOEL, and the determined and alluring marine biologist DR. KATE WHEELER. As the weather turns dangerous, Simon Bell, Benson, Noel, and Kate load into the state-of-the-art CETO submarine and make the difficult journey to the ocean floor. Caleb remains with Sue monitoring the mission (and an approaching hurricane) from the Mosby Topside. Once there, Noel suits up and heads deep into the Titanic wreckage. As the others listen on the radio, Noel encounters an unspeakable horror. Binge listen to Beneath early and ad-free exclusively with Wondery+. Elements of Visual Design in the Landscape (Routledge, 2019) presents a vocabulary of visual design, structured in a logical and easy to follow sequence. It is profusely illustrated using both abstract and real examples taken from a wide range of international locations together with cross referencing between related principles and case studies demonstrating how the principles can be applied in practice. The visual aspects of design have often been treated as 'cosmetic' and therefore not meriting attention or purely subjective and therefore open to personal preference. Few attempts have been made to explain how we see the landscape in any rational and structured way, and to demonstrate how visually creative design and management can be undertaken. This book aims to fill that gap. Simon Bell is a forester and landscape architect. He is Chair Professor and Head of the Chair of Landscape Architecture at this Estonian University of Life Sciences and Associate Director of the OPENspace Research Centre at the Edinburgh School of Architecture and landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Simon Bell is a local author and a Biscuit favourite (episode 1) and he asked me if I wanted to speak to Rainer Hoess, the Grandson of Auschwitz commandant Rudolph Hoess. Of course I snapped at the chance and boy am I grateful for this opportunity. Rainer has an amazing story of the bravery that is needed to want to make a difference to the world. A bravery that separated him from his family and took him on an amazing journey to find ways to fight against the rhetoric of hate. The complete opposite of what his Grandfather did. This rally is one of the most rewarding interviews I've done and I am so grateful to Simon and Rainer for doing this with me. Rainer and Simon created Footsteps a page designed to offer support and comfort to anyone that was effected by the Holocaust. After listening to this episode please check out their site and give them a follow on Facebook, its heroes like these guys that deserve plenty of support. footstepsonline.com https://www.facebook.com/footstepsteam/

On a freewheeling and literary edition of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we plunge into 2017 Bram Stoker Award nominated supernatural novel THE APOTHECARY’S CURSE with author Barbara Barnett. Barbara will join us in hour 2. Hour 1, Joel and Eric will dive recklessly into the week’s top paranormal news for your amusement and edification. THE APOTHECARY’S CURSE, a 2017 Bram Stoker Award nominee, is a diabolical supernatural blend of historical fantasy and medical thriller as a physician and an apothecary race against time to recover the ancient book that made them immortal centuries ago. In Victorian London, the fates of physician Simon Bell and apothecary Gaelan Erceldoune entwine when Simon gives his wife an elixir created by Gaelan from an ancient manuscript. Meant to cure her cancer, it instead kills her. Suicidal, Simon swallows the remainder, only to find he cannot die. Five years later, hearing rumors of a Bedlam inmate with regenerative powers like his own, Simon is shocked to discover it’s Gaelan. As the two men conceal their immortality, the only hope of reversing their condition, the apothecary’s curse, rests with Gaelan’s missing manuscript. When modern-day pharmaceutical company Transdiff Genomics unearths diaries describing the torture of Bedlam inmates, the company’s scientists suspect a link between Gaelan and an unnamed inmate. Gaelan and Transdiff Genomics geneticist Anne Shawe are powerfully drawn to each other, and her family connection to his manuscript leads to a stunning revelation. Will it bring ruin or redemption? Clearly, yes. Barbara Barnett The Apothecary's CurseBarbara Barnett is author of the Bram Stoker Award-nominated novel THE APOTHECARY’S CURSE and CHASING ZEBRAS: THE UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO HOUSE, M.D., the critically-acclaimed and quintessential guide to the themes, charact

Series exploring famous pieces of music and their emotional appeal. Hal David discusses writing The Look of Love with Burt Bacharach, for the soundtrack of the spoof 1967 James Bond film Casino Royale. This classic track, sung by Dusty Springfield, provided the musical backdrop for a love scene between Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress. Dusty Springfield's former backing singer, Simon Bell, remembers being on stage at the Albert Hall when Dusty laughed her way through a performance of the song, and musician Jonathan Cohen describes how the samba rhythm underscoring Dusty's smooth vocals combine to make this an enduringly popular love song. It has been covered many times by artists including Isaac Hayes, Gladys Knight and the French singer Mirielle Mathieu. This programme hears from people whose personal memories of love and loss are forever linked with The Look of Love.
