In the ever-evolving world of dentistry, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is paving the way for significant advancements in efficiency and patient care. In our latest podcast episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with the innovative minds behind Dentscape AI, a company that is transforming the dental lab landscape. Dentscape AI is not just another tech startup; it's a groundbreaking solution designed specifically for dental labs. With their AI agent, dental technicians can now generate up to 100 crowns in just 10 minutes! This remarkable feat is achieved by simplifying workflows and reducing the workload of dental professionals, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks that require human creativity and expertise. The conversation began with the introduction of the Dentscape team, including co-founders Bill Cho and Dr. Sylvie Liu. Sylvie, a practicing dentist and lecturer in digital dentistry, shared her journey from traditional dentistry to entrepreneurship. Her passion for the artistry of dentistry led her to seek innovative solutions that would not only enhance her practice but also address the pressing challenges faced by dental labs. Bill explained the three key pillars that support their AI model: high-quality data, advanced algorithms, and robust computing power. By partnering with large dental labs, Dentscape AI ensures that their models are trained on real-world data, allowing for accuracy and reliability in crown design. As Ryan Axelson, another key member of the Dentscape team, pointed out, their goal is to provide tools that empower technicians, allowing them to enhance their workflow and ultimately improve patient care. You are invited to Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us)'s IPS e.max Panel Discussion Friday, February 22nd stating at 3:00 at LMT Lab Day in Chicago. South Africa has been facing a severe unemployment crisis that affects millions, particularly the youth, for nearly a decade. And so it comes as no surprise that there is also a crippling shortage of medical professionals with experts in the field saying this is unacceptable. The shortage results in a strained healthcare system. Dr Bulela Vava, Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity in South Africa, says the this issue was once thought to mainly affect unskilled workers. But now both skilled and unskilled workers, including healthcare professionals, are among the casualties. He also adds that the narrative around this crisis has often been one-sided, focusing heavily on the negative effects on medical doctors while neglecting similar challenges faced by 'marginalised' professionals who are essential to maintaining the healthcare system. (Feb 1, 2024) New York could close up to five state prisons this year. Teacher shortages don't hinge on one particular issue—they're a conglomeration of a wide range of shortages in specific subjects, regions, and specialties. As a result, school districts are looking for innovative solutions to ensure that they have access to high-quality educators. School districts need solutions that not only help get more qualified educators entering the profession but also support teacher retention and promotion into leadership roles within a district.Proven partnerships and models offer lessons for today's teacher shortage. While different in their approach, these programs all solve the same core problems: They offer a positive return on investment for teachers who participate, they cultivate new populations for inclusion in the teaching population, they create accessible opportunities for teacher advancement, and they balance rigor and time to completion.Listen to this edWeb podcast as the presenters dive into the challenges many K-12 districts are facing today, and what is being done to fix the problem. Podcast Description: The Children's Division of Missouri's Department of Social Services is severely understaffed. In St. Louis and St. Louis County, there should be 60 investigators total. Instead, there are 16. That shortage has led to a backlog of over 6,000 cases involving child abuse or neglect. And, those backlogged cases have remained open beyond 45 days --- far longer than in other regions in Missouri. STLPR Politics correspondent Jason Rosenbaum has been following this story, and shared his reporting done in partnership with NPR's Midwest Newsroom.
For the second time in three days, there will be no urgent care clinic in Canterbury with Christchurch's 24 Hour Surgery reducing hours tonight because of a serious staff shortage. It also had to shut shop on Saturday, with the already-stretched workforce being reduced further due to Covid and other winter illnesses. Patients who have been seen, faced waits of up to six hours, while staff have been pulling huge shifts to try and get on top of the backlog. Pegasus Health general manager of patient and provider services, Lisa Brennan, says the clinic had no choice but to close between 3.30 this afternoon and midnight tonight. In a statement, Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury says Christchurch Hospital's Emergency Department continues to offer emergency care 24/7. The relationship between Auckland Transport and the ferry operator Fullers has hit very choppy waters over the cancellation of multiple Auckland commuter services. From October Fullers 360 will not longer run the Birkenhead, Te Onewa Northcote Point, and Bayswater services, leaving AT scrambling to find a replacement operator. And there also be significant cuts to the timetable on the Gulf Harbour and Half Moon Bay routes. Auckland Transport says Fullers has quit the routes so it can accelerate its training programme with the company short of 12 crews. But Fullers CEO Mike Horne insists AT has known for months that this was coming.
Veterinary Industry Struggling with Overwhelming Staff Shortages Dr. Marty Greer, DVM joins host Laura Reeves to review her presentation at the NAIA conference on the struggles of overwhelming staff shortages in the veterinary industry. “It is estimated that the veterinary industry is 40,000 people short, not just veterinarians but veterinary staff,” Greer said. “It's a lot of people. So, if you divide that up into every state, that's a lot of people that your veterinary clinics are suffering with trying to get by without. So that's veterinarians, that's receptionists, that's managers, that's everyone. “So again, I know we've talked about this before and I just really need to keep beating the drum that we need to be sure that we're taking good care of the veterinary relationships that we have. I just got off the phone with another colleague a few minutes ago talking about practice sales and how that's impacting the relationship people have with their veterinary clinic and how that changes everything. Greer addresses the corporatization of veterinary clinics and how that is to the detriment of reproductive health, particularly, in our dogs. “It does play a role in all aspects,” Greer said. “I think the reproduction part is especially difficult because a lot of the new graduates have been trained to come out of veterinary school with the impression that breeders are not good people and breeding dogs is this terrible hobby. And so, I think it's really frustrating for people who have all the right intentions to breed healthy dogs to help these nice new graduates pay off their veterinary school loans. I don't really understand where they think healthy dogs are going to come from. “It's really important that we keep the existing good relationships and that we keep our veterinarians happy. From talking to financial planners, you really are in a better financial place by keeping your practice than by selling to what looks like an attractive number because by the time you get done paying all the taxes and all the other things and then you don't have the asset that you developed anymore. I mean we spent 42 years developing this asset. I'm not just going to hand it off to someone that doesn't have the best interests of my clients and staff in mind. So, take good care of your local veterinarian.” One of Greer's top tips is how to manage whelping and when/how to use Oxytocin. Here is her chart to print out and add to your whelping kit.
