President Trump is reversing the Biden administration's years of damage to American “family finances” and “federal finances.” When Biden left office in Jan. 2025, “the private sector wasn't adding any jobs at all, but losing them,” explains E.J. Antoni, Ph.D., The Heritage Foundation's chief economist. One year later and Trump is righting the ship: Last month was the best January ever for employment among native-born Americans. The private sector added 172,000 jobs while government jobs declined by 42,000. All told, Donald Trump has reduced the federal bureaucracy by 323,000 in just one year.

The sermon centers on the profound reality of humanity's fallen condition, rooted in Adam and Eve's disobedience, which severed our relationship with God and left us spiritually dead, enslaved to sin and self-reliance. Drawing from Isaiah 55 and Genesis 2–3, it emphasizes that our natural state is one of rebellion and spiritual blindness, where our hearts are enmity against God and we falsely believe we can be our own gods. Yet, in perfect sovereignty and love, God provided salvation through Jesus Christ—conceived by the Holy Spirit, born without sin, and living a life of perfect obedience—whose death on the cross fulfilled the law and paid the price for our redemption. The message calls all to repent, trust in Christ alone, and embrace the free gift of faith, which is itself a divine work of grace, as the Holy Spirit reveals our need and draws us to the Savior. Ultimately, the sermon proclaims that God's Word is powerful, effective, and eternal, accomplishing His purposes and bringing life, joy, and reconciliation to all who turn to Jesus in faith.

In this episode, we talk about why your adult child won't talk to you, how our child-centered parenting culture has increased anxiety for both parents and kids, and how that anxiety is now playing out in your relationship with your grown child. Tina Gosney is a family conflict coach and family life educator. This episode is grounded in a research-based article from Family Process called “Balanced Parenting,” which uses Bowen Family Systems Theory to explain why so many loving parents feel responsible for their adult child's emotions—and why that often backfires. This episode is for you if: You're wondering, “Why won't my adult child talk to me?”You feel like “my adult child is pulling away” and you're walking on eggshellsYou've searched for “how to reconnect with an estranged adult child” or “how to fix a broken relationship with adult child”You sometimes think, “I feel rejected by my adult child” and don't know how to make it betterYou're scared this might end in adult children cutting off parents, and you don't want that to be your storyYou'll see how our anxious, child-focused culture trained you to over-function for your child's emotions, and how that same pattern can make adult children feel watched, judged, or controlled. What we cover: What the research on Balanced Parenting says about parents taking on too much emotional responsibilityHow the righting reflex (the urge to fix, correct, and rescue) shows up in parenting adult children relationshipsHow anxiety gets passed around the family system when no one has learned to manage their ownWhy your adult child may shut down or distance themselves when you're “only trying to help”A new, balanced, differentiation-based approach that helps you calm yourself instead of trying to manage your adult childYou'll leave with a clearer understanding of the big picture—and some first steps to start changing If you're tired of reacting to what's happening in your family and want more internal calm and confidence, I'd love to support you. How did 19th century Maryland pro-slavery advocates weaponize witch trial narratives against Connecticut abolitionists? Returning guest Dr. Richard Ross III reveals a fabricated 1848 witch trial story designed to discredit Connecticut's anti-slavery movement following the Amistad U. S. Supreme Court case victory. This conversation explores the intersection of witch trial history and American slavery through the curious case of Juliana Cox, a completely fictional Connecticut witch whose story appeared in Maryland newspapers to embarrass Connecticut abolitionists. We consider how missing colonial documents created space for propaganda, examine the real Connecticut witch trials that were hidden for generations, and discuss how witch trial rhetoric became a political weapon in debates over slavery and abolition.Dr. Ross shares research on how the Wyllys family papers disappeared into private collections, why Connecticut's witch trial history remained largely unknown until the 20th century, and the deliberate creation of a witch trial hoax borrowed from English folklore sources to serve pro-slavery political goals.Connecticut witch trial records and their disappearance into private collectionsThe Amistad trial and Connecticut abolitionist movementFabricated witch trial narratives as political propagandaHow pro-slavery advocates compared abolitionists to Salem witch trial accusersThe real witch trials of colonial Connecticut finally documentedAlice Young: Connecticut's first executed witchExamining bodies for witch marks in colonial New EnglandLiterary and political uses of witch trial rhetoric in 19th century AmericaDr. Richard Ross III is a historian and Professor Emeritus from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, where he taught a seminar on New England witch trials for over ten years. This podcast is the audio version of the Gear Garage Live Show, where we answer submitted questions and talk all things whitewater. In this episode, Zach takes a deep dive into Personal Rescue Equipment (PRE), specifically focusing on the flip line. While it seems like a simple piece of webbing, there is a lot of debate around the length, the type of webbing used, and whether or not to use locking carabiners. Zach also answers viewer questions about the mechanics of righting a flipped raft and how to stay safe while doing it. Flip Lines: The Setup Zach starts by breaking down his personal flip line setup. The “standard” for most guides is about 10 to 12 feet of 1-inch tubular webbing. Tubular vs. Flat Webbing: Zach highly recommends tubular webbing. It's easier on the hands, holds knots better, and has a higher breaking strength for this specific application. The Length: While 10 feet is standard, Zach discusses why taller guides or those running high-frame gear boats might prefer 12 feet to get more leverage. The Knot: Most guides use a simple water knot to create a loop, but Zach discusses the pros and cons of keeping it as a single line with a carabiner on one end. The Carabiner Debate: To Lock or Not? One of the most contentious topics in raft rescue is the carabiner on your flip line. Non-Locking: The argument here is speed. In a high-stress flip situation, you want to be able to clip and pull immediately. Locking: The safety argument is that a non-locking carabiner can accidentally “gate-load” or clip onto something it shouldn't (like your own PFD or another rope), creating a snag hazard. Zach's Take: Zach leans towards the efficiency of a non-locking gate but emphasizes that gear choice should always be dictated by your specific comfort level and the type of water you are running. Righting the Raft Flipping a boat back over isn't just about strength; it's about physics. Zach breaks down the “lean back” technique: High Side/Low Side: Identify where the current is pushing the boat. The Foot Placement: Get your feet high on the side of the tube to create a pivot point. The Weight: Use your body weight, not your arm strength. The “Pop”: For larger gear boats, Zach discusses using a second person or a “Z-drag” style setup if the boat is pinned or suctioned to the water. Personal Rescue Equipment (PRE) The show wraps up with a discussion on what else should be on your person. Zach emphasizes that your flip line shouldn't be your only tool. A high-quality whistle, a reliable river knife (accessible with either hand), and a throw bag should be the foundation of your kit before you start worrying about advanced mechanical advantage hardware. The Donner und Blitzen River Zach highlights the "Blitzen" as one of the most elusive and rewarding high-desert runs in Oregon. Because it relies entirely on snowmelt from the Steens Mountains, the window to boat it is incredibly "flashy", often opening and closing within a matter of days. Zach emphasizes that this isn't a run for heavy gear boats; the narrow, continuous nature of the canyon requires nimble craft like small catarafts or 12-foot rafts. He notes that while the logistics are simple (no permit required), the technicality and remote location mean your team needs to be self-sufficient and ready for a "no-swim" environment. Morning Mantra: "If you want to right a wrong, you must first accept that you were wrong." Why do we hold onto being right over being kind? Over being loving? Over being compassionate?Letting go of your attachment to being right is difficult, but it opens the door to learning, to understanding, to growing as a person.Admitting that you were wrong is hard but mistakes are forgivable if you have the . courage to admit them. Righting a wrong helps you move on. It helps you look for solutions instead of blame. When you are brave enough to own your mistake and apologize, you realize that it has nothing to do with pride, and everything to do with maturity.#BeWillingToRightAWrong #BeHappy #BeHorsey #BeHippie #HorseHippie #MorningMantra #InspirationalQuotes

Dr. Laura welcomes wrongful conviction expert and attorney Jeffrey Deskovic and filmmaker Jia Rizvi to Where Work Meets Life™for an eye-opening conversation about wrongful conviction and exoneration advocacy. Jeffrey Deskovic was wrongfully convicted of a crime he didn't commit and spent sixteen years in prison, from age seventeen to thirty-three, until he was exonerated by DNA evidence. Jia Rizvi is a documentary filmmaker passionate about telling stories of wrongful convictions, whose short documentary, Conviction, and upcoming full documentary, Sixteen Years, are about Jeffrey Deskovic's story. Dr. Laura hosts a raw and illuminating discussion on Jeffrey's story, wrongful convictions and the advocacy work required to exonerate the innocent, and Jia's career in telling these stories.Jeffrey Deskovic has since become a public speaker, author, teacher, and attorney, and established the Deskovic Foundation to fight for those wrongfully accused the way he was. He tells his harrowing story openly and with a desire to shed light on coerced convictions, wrongful convictions, and what is required to prevent other innocent people from sacrificing years of their lives to a sentence they didn't deserve. Jia Rizvi became interested in the subject of wrongful convictions when she watched The Hurricane, the film about Reuben Carter that starred Denzel Washington. She embarked on a life of advocacy for the imprisoned innocent and went to film school so she could more effectively tell their stories to larger audiences. The conversation is open, honest, and deeply insightful, opening a door into a world we don't think enough about. Jia and Jeffrey talk with Dr. Laura about prison reform, the reality of advocacy work, and what it takes to reintegrate into society after being wrongfully imprisoned.“So when you add it all up, I was wrongfully convicted of a murder and rape. I was given a 15-year-to-life sentence. I was sent to a maximum security prison where, you know, I lost seven appeals. I got turned down for parole, largely because I maintained my innocence, rather than expressing remorse and taking responsibility. Ultimately, I was exonerated through further DNA testing.” - Jeffrey DeskovicAbout Jeffrey Deskovic:Jeffrey was wrongfully convicted for the brutal rape and murder of his high school classmate, Angela Correa, and spent sixteen years in prison from age seventeen to thirty-three until he was finally exonerated by DNA evidence. Since his exoneration, Jeffrey has delivered over 100 presentations, authored over 200 articles, and given hundreds of print, radio, and television interviews, including multiple appearances on CNN, Al Jazeera America, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. He has testified at legislative hearings in New York and Connecticut, where wrongful conviction prevention legislation was considered and worked collaboratively with New Yorkers Against The Death Penalty to ward off capital punishment reinstatement efforts in New York in 2007, and helped legislatively repeal the death penalty in Connecticut. He has conducted numerous seminars at judicial gatherings, bar associations, prosecutorial groups, and other professional associations, is certified as a police and correctional instructor, and has given numerous lectures to soon-to-be graduating classes of police and correction officers. Jeffrey is a graduate of Mercy College with a B.A. in Behavioral Science and has a master's degree from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he wrote a thesis on the causes of wrongful conviction, along with the reforms needed to address them. He co-designed a wrongful conviction college course syllabus, which was taught at Farleigh Dickinson University, and co-taught a wrongful conviction college course as an adjunct professor at Rockland Community College. He was listed in John Jay College of Criminal Justice's “Fifty at Fifty” book as one of the top 50 standout students in John Jay's 50-year history, and in 2014 won New York 1's “New Yorker of the Week” award. In 2015, he won the “Humanitarian of the Year” award from the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. He used $1.5 million of the compensation from his wrongful conviction to establish The Deskovic Foundation, which exonerates the wrongfully convicted and seeks to improve our criminal justice system to prevent wrongful convictions in the future. The Foundation has already exonerated five innocent people and helped free eight other clients while fighting to establish their innocence. Most recently, Jeffry entered Pace University to pursue a law degree. He obtained his law degree from the Elizabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, twice making the Dean's List. He is now licensed to practice law in New York State, as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.FB for The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for JusticeInstagramLinkedInYouTubePatreon Recharge Beyond The Bars Reentry GameConvictionAbout Jia Rizvi:Filmmaker Jia Rizvi pursues stories that explore the conflict between institutional systems and individuals victimized by those institutions in the name of protecting the social order. Our guest today is Phyllis Elmore, a remarkable woman whose story is as unforgettable as the quilts that helped shape her life.Phyllis is the author of Quilt of Souls, a powerful and deeply personal memoir that has touched readers across the country. Born in the Detroit and raised by her grandmother Lula in rural Alabama, Phyllis found herself immersed in a world of deep wisdom, quiet strength, and generational resilience. It was there, surrounded by women who stitched their pain, perseverance, and history into quilts, that Phyllis discovered healing—and the true meaning of family. In 1973, Phyllis joined the United States Air Force and was one of the first female Aircraft Pneudraulic Specialist for the B-52 Bomber. After leaving the Air Force she attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. In 2001, she joined the Army National Guard as an active-duty guard member. It's also noteworthy to mention that Phyllis was one of only a handful of women in the military who served in three major military conflicts including the Vietnam Era where she served a temporary duty assignment to Vietnam before the 1975 fall of Saigon. She was also deployed to Saudi Arabia as a member of Operation Desert Storm, and in December 2003 as a member of the Army National Guard where she was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In her civilian career she worked as a counselor for incarcerated youth and for women who were victims of domestic violence. She also spent ten years as a Substance Abuse Counseling Supervisor. In her remarkable book Quilt of Souls, Phyllis shares stories that were nearly lost stories of the Black women who raised children not theirs, who held families together through hardship, and who passed down their heritage through hands that stitched, cooked, comforted, and carried so much. Her writing is rich, lyrical, and full of love—an act of remembrance and a celebration of the strength it takes to keep going, and to keep telling the truth.(3:11) Phyllis recounts being uprooted from Detroit at age four and sent to rural Alabama to live with her grandmother, Lula. She describes the powerful emotional refuge of Lula's quilts—especially one that made her feel truly safe for the first time.(8:03) We get to know Grandmother Lula, an indomitable force who stitched not only quilts but entire communities together. Lula lived to be 105 years old and was threading a needle at 100.(15:55) Phyllis reflects on her return to Detroit as a teen, where she was labeled “incorrigible”—and how those experiences shaped her decision to join the U.S. Air Force.(23:57) After her military service, Phyllis worked as a counselor for incarcerated youth and women facing domestic abuse. Hear how she channeled her life experiences into serving others.(27:30) What inspired Quilt of Souls? Phyllis shares the moment she realized that the stories she carried could—and should—be written down.(30:39) She recalls a particularly poignant story unearthed during her research—one that stuck with her and shaped the book's message.(34:27) Meet Miss Jubilee and hear about the extraordinary quilts and lives Phyllis encountered while researching her memoir.(40:43) Discover the Quilt of Souls Preservation Project and get a preview of Phyllis' upcoming Quilt of Souls Gathering in June 2026.(46:15) Phyllis reveals what she hopes readers take away from Quilt of Souls—and why she believes it's never too late to “right” your story.(51:00) What didn't we ask that she wishes we had? Phyllis gives us a thoughtful answer.(52:10) Want to connect with Phyllis? Visit www.thequiltofsouls.com or email her at thequiltofsouls@yahoo.com. In this Bible Story, we witness the continued bravery of David even into old age. He continues to wage war against all who would threaten the followers of God. As a result, David becomes weary, but doesn't lose hope in the Lord. This story is inspired by 2 Samuel 21. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is 2 Samuel 21:3 from the King James Version.Episode 110: Famine was in the land of Israel, and this led to hard times for the people. So David sought the Lord and asked what he should do. God showed him the reason for the famine and commanded him to make peace with the Gibeonites for the sins that Saul had committed against them. David called the Gibeonites to him and gave them their request, the life of Saul's sons. After this, the famine eased and Israel once again flourished. However, this flourishing would draw out more enemies of Israel and more battles, battles that David was too old to fight in.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. On this episode, Chris is joined by Karen Bailey - Chapman, Senior Vice President - Public and Government Affairs at SEMA. They chat about SEMA's advocacy initiatives and how electric vehicle mandates, tariffs and limiting access to public land impact the enthusiast vehicle community. Government policy inadvertently promotes stagnating innovation, increasing costs and limiting use of public lands. SEMA's advocacy initiatives are lobbying government decision makers to normalize and reverse the negative impact government policy has on the enthusiast vehicle community and aftermarket suppliers. It all began in 1963 when a group of small manufacturers who were suppliers of performance equipment for early hot rods organized their fledgling industry and called it "Speed Equipment Manufacturers Association" (SEMA).The mission was practical and straightforward: develop uniform standards for certain products used in motorsports competition; promote the industry as a supplier to consumers involved in constructive activities of recreational and hobbyist value; develop programs to encourage improved business practices among member companies; and hold regular meetings to achieve unity as a business organization. In those days, all of the members were founders of companies that produced speed equipment exclusively (hence, the organization's title). At the outset, the pioneering companies operated free of the constraints that come from governmental regulations and their attending restrictions. They were as aggressive and progressive as their imaginations would allow, and the mostly small businesses flourished. Today, many of the original companies are very large, successful corporations, and some, such as Edelbrock, Ansen, B&M and Offenhauser, are known internationally for their product lines. Today, more than 40 years later, the small group of entrepreneurial operations has been joined by thousands of companies, designers, producers and suppliers of specialty products that span the gamut. From performance products for street and race applications to appearance accessories for late-model automobiles and light-duty trucks, SEMA-member companies contribute to the vitality and strength of a $29.9-billion-a-year retail industry.SEMA eventually became the Specialty Equipment Market Association, embracing within its ranks all businesses in the distribution chain: manufacturers, warehouse distributors, jobbers, independent retailers, volume retailers, specialty stores (speed shops), sales agents, subcontractors and publishing companies. The membership categories even include racing teams, car clubs and special service organizations. The SEMA membership roster has steadily grown and continues its upward climb. Today there are more than 6,382 corporate members. Products supplied by the industry are in demand not only in the United States, but also throughout the world.Follow, Like and subscribe to the podcast on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and your podcast listing platform. Jesus came to fulfill the Father's promise from the Garden — as the seed of the woman who would crush Satan's rule and restore us to God's Kingdom. In Christ and through His resurrection, all things are made new. Today, we don't celebrate a tomb — we celebrate the God of the resurrection, who meticulously rights every wrong by His resurrection power.

No one does it like Angie. Racial tensions, police shootings, citizen uprisings. Does this sound like the setting of a YA novel? How about three of them? Her debut 'The Hate U Give,' her sophomore release 'On The Come Up,' and her third 'Concrete Rose' were all on The New York Times bestseller list, and her fantasy middle school-level book 'Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy' was *also* an instant New York Times bestseller! In this classic chapter of 3 Books, we sat down together at the busiest hotel in downtown Toronto on the tail end of Angie's 15-city book tour to discuss how we find the truth for ourselves, when do we bring up harsh realities to kids, and what place media and religion have in society today. We dive deep into the heightened racial and political tensions today and we search for a way out and, as always, we get to learn Angie Thomas's three most formative books. Let's flip the page back to Chapter 26 now...
Kramer Levin's commitment to justice is powerfully exemplified in its pro bono work to overturn the wrongful conviction of Anthony Hall, who spent 26 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Through relentless legal advocacy, strategic litigation, and an impactful partnership with Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, the firm fought to expose critical flaws in the case – from unreliable eyewitness testimony to systemic issues within the criminal justice system. Their unwavering dedication not only helped secure Hall's freedom but also underscored the transformative power of pro bono work in changing lives and addressing injustice. In this Challenge Signatory Showcase episode of the Pro Bono Happy Hour podcast, Nihad Mansour, Assistant Director, Law Firm Pro Bono Project, is joined by David Alexander, Litigation Associate at Kramer Levin. After the 8-0 thrashing of Salford City and the 2-2 draw with Brentford, David Mooney is joined by football historian Dr Gary James and City fan Andy MacNab to reflect on the two performances. Despite the result in West London, was the display better than in previous matches recently? After the sad news of the death of City legend Tony Book, we replay the interview we did with him from May 2011 and we discuss his legacy at the club. With Ipswich and PSG on the horizon, we hear from Rich from The Suffolk Crunch and from Ed from PSG Talk to find out how both of City's next opponents are getting on at the moment.
