It's Jeramy's birthday movie and this year he chose Stealing Harvard. A comedy about a man/uncle (Jason Lee) who must resort to criminal activities in order to pay for his niece's college tuition AND buy a house for his fiancé.
Madalyn Mattsey joins us to talk about the only decent thing Tom Green ever did: "Stealing Harvard" from 2002, directed by Bruce McCulloch, also starring Jason Lee, Leslie Mann, and John C. McGinley.
Welcome to my wildly inconsistent and poorly produced cinematic journal, 10,000 FLICKS, where I endeavor to watch ten thousand randomly selected films I have never seen. This time, I review the bizarre but entertaining 2002 comedy STEALING HARVARD, starring Jason Lee and Tom Green. This is a case of CatBusRuss trying to make chicken salad from chicken waste. Between starting a second job and his scheduled recording falling through at the last minute, he did not have a way to line up a new guest. But, with Podbean only allowing a hundred episodes to show up on the top podcast apps, there is a fear that some of the past episodes will be lost when/if the podcast changes platforms. We cannot lose our only episodes (thus far) with JD Greving of JDHD and Jessica Kwazz from "2nd Chance Movies". Thus, welcome to the Stealing Harvard (2002) and Spaceballs (1987) mega episode. It also features NinetyForChill legend ThePoeticCritic.
This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas try to get into College at two of the most prestigious Universities in America. To prepare, they put off studying for their SATs and cram by watching the 2002 films ORANGE COUNTY and STEALING HARVARD. ORANGE COUNTY follows Colin Hanks (Tom Hanks's son) as Shawn, who has great grades and high ambitions to go to Stanford and become a writer. When his College advisor sends in the wrong test transcript to Stanford, Shawn doesn't get in, and decides to hit the road with his stoner brother (Jack Black) and girlfriend to convince the Dean of Admissions to let him in. It is a totally solid flick, with a great cast (his parents are Catherine O'Hara and John Lithgow), great screenplay, and fun soundtrack. We pair it with the similar themed film from the same year, STEALING HARVARD. Starring Jason Lee as John, who promises to pay for the tuition of his niece, he is surprised to learn she gets into Harvard. Keeping to his promise, while also trying to buy a house with his girlfriend Elaine (Leslie Mann - she's in Orange County too, btw), John teams up with his friend Duff (Tom Green) in an attempt to steal money to pay his niece's tuition. Which will Jon and Fil find to be a better "trying to get into college" film? Tune in to find out... If you enjoy the podcast, leave a Rating and Review! It really helps us out! Be the FIRST to be part of the brand new Patreon! Thank you for supporting the show to continue. http://patreon.com/daraquilty On this show, you're hearing a different kind of interview with Tom Green. Tom Green is a household name in the United States and around the world after he barged onto MTV in 1999 with TV like we've never seen it. The Tom Green Show was a late night show which was revolutionary for comedy broadcasting as he paved the way for shows like Jackass to exist. In early 2000, Tom Green was diagnosed with, and successfully treated for testicular cancer. Green wrote, directed and starred in a one-hour MTV television special titled The Tom Green Cancer Special. Tom's fame soon netted him roles in several Hollywood movies, including Road Trip, Charlie's Angels, Freddy Got Fingered (which he also wrote and directed), and Stealing Harvard. Green continued the trend of his brand of comedy in Road Trip in a notable scene where he put a mouse in his mouth.
