Daniel Hutchings has been involved in football for as long as he can remember. Starting out, it was as a playing and watching as a kid, and then, it was in the role of a football analyst - which he performed as Barnet, Stevenage FC and, in his current job, at Cavalry FC in the Canadian Football League. The beautiful game means everything to Daniel – and in January 2022, he decided to open up about the fact he happened to be gay in an emotional post on social media. The outpouring of support for Daniel after that post was huge - overwhelming, in some ways – and since then, Daniel has got his head down and let his football do the talking. So when he dropped us a message, saying he was ready to have a chat about his journey, on and off the pitch, we were only ever going to say yes to having him on! And that decision means ever more due to the fact this is the first time that Daniel has ever had a conversation like this publicly, and we're hugely grateful he's decided to do it with us. We talk about Daniel's obsession with football; what analysis actually means in practice; how it feels when the analysis delivers results on the pitch; the move to Canada; his decision to speak publicly about his sexuality; the reaction to it; and loads, loads more. We loved this conversation and we think you will as well - and we're really glad that Daniel took the time to join us for it! Recently, there have been a fair few people who have gotten in touch to let us know that they've enjoyed an episode from the past. So, we thought it would be a good idea to round the year out by re-running three of our most popular episodes. We've all seen some great examples of sponsorships adjusting, doing something different, and really creative activations this year because of COVID-19. A lot of those have been driven by necessity. Probably the most talked about activation of 2020, however, has been Burger King's sponsorship of Stevenage FC, who, at the time of the sponsorship, in 2019, were last in the fourth division of English football. It left many people scratching their heads. It is, of course, the sponsorship that ultimately gave us the hugely successful Stevenage Challenge. This amazing partnerhsip wasn't driven by COVID-19 or necessity. It was driven through vision and creativity, and, as our guest phrases it later on in the show, “a leap of faith”, to pull off a truly brilliant activation. One of the reasons it was so brilliant was because the opportunity was right under so many people's noses, yet so many didn't see it. The activation is both amazing in its boldness yet so jarringly simple. Tap into the already huge, but growing, eSports market, specifically FIFA. Tap into the underdog status and fairytale storyline of them winning. Tap into the desire for people to share their gaming highlights online. Tap into the fact that everyone loves an easily accessible giveaway, especially fast food. The results have been absolutely amazing and driven directly from the 1.2 billion impressions that Burger King's shirt sponsorship, of Stevenage FC, has produced through the Stevenage Challenge on FIFA. Furthermore, those commercial outcomes and further opportunities are both online and offline. Alex Tunbridge is the Chief Executive at Stevenage FC and he joins us in this episode to take us inside Burger King's sponsorship of his club. We also hear from Daniel Collier-Hill, KORE's Commercial Director – APAC, who joins us to discuss the blog which outlines 3 Things That Will Provide Both Short and Long-term Benefits to Sponsorship Managers. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The third round of the Cup continued to bring the shocks, drama and magic and once again it was the day of the underdog. Ben Haines is joined by former West Ham and Aston Villa midfielder, Nigel Reo-Coker, Scotland and Aston Villa defender, Rachel Corsie and the Telegraph's Luke Edwards as they delve deep into the key games from Sunday. Stevenage FC podcast presenter Reece Donnelly comes on the show and gives his take on what the win means to the club. Manager Steve Evans also gives his views as does a disappointed Unai Emery. Then the focus shifts to the Etihad as Manchester City got the better of Chelsea for the second time this week – but this time out it ended 4-0. Stevenage were left waiting until after the final whistle had long since blown at most games on the final day of last season to find out if they'd avoided the drop.Oldham fans caused their game to be halted and the finish delayed by protesting on the pitch at Boundary Park back in May but they couldn't stop Oldham being relegated.Just a few short months on and the turnaround at Stevenage FC has been phenomenal.Joining Danny to preview this Saturday's game is Matt Farley, the happiest man in football. As well as our chat with Matt, Charles and Danny have a thank you to make and we briefly look back on the Pizza Cup defeat to Arsenal Under 21's which saw a record breaking goal for Josh Tomlinson._________________________Support the showIf you'd like to support the podcast, we'd really appreciate it.You can sign up to the Fan Club on Patreon from just £2 a month and in return we'll give you loads of extra cool stuff like exclusive podcast episodes, meet-ups and a chat forum.Sign up at patreon.com/cobblerstomeAll donations are used to help improve the podcast and allow us to do cool things like sponsor NTFC Women player, Abbie Brewin. Our websiteYou'll find match previews, opinion pieces and more over on our website. La vidéo s’intitule A Whopper of Secret.
