David Shriner-Cahn had a comfortable career first as a chemical engineer, then as an executive at a not-for-profit organization where he led and managed teams and organizations. This worked for him for 28 years, until the day someone else told him the gig was up.After the fear of being involuntarily unemployed subsided, Shriner-Cahn had a realization: in his next business life, he wanted to be the one calling the shots. In 2006 he launched his consulting business, TEND Strategic Partners, and later started a blog that morphed into a podcast, Smashing the Plateau. And that led into a second podcast: Going Solo.Shriner-Cahn is doing all of this to bring entrepreneurs together because he wants to help high-achieving professionals take control over their own futures and write their own stories. He recently took a break from his two podcasts to join me on my own. He talked about the importance of making breakthroughs and how his background in engineering led him to focus on having good processes that are both efficient and effective. Many people say they want to take over their own careers and reach new goals, but the gap between where they are and where they want to be needs to be closed before those realizations can happen. You can find David online @https://linkedin.com/in/davidshrinercahnhttps://SmashingThePlateau.com

David Shriner-Cahn is the host of the Forbes and Inc Magazine-featured podcast - Smashing the Plateau. He is also the Founder and President of TEND Strategic Partners, a community he started in 2006 that is dedicated to entrepreneurs who seek like-minded individuals to form a solid support system. Following a long career as an employee, David began his career as a chemical engineer and later on transitioned into the nonprofit sector where he assumed leadership and management roles for many years. After taking the reins and running his own business, he came to a realization that there’s still so much for him to learn about how to be a successful entrepreneur. He also found out that being in that journey of establishing your own business and yourself can be quite lonely but it all changed when he started to gain knowledge and found a way to be around supportive co-entrepreneurs. David launched the podcast Smashing the Plateau in 2014 to serve as a platform for entrepreneurs who are striving for long-term success to share their stories, experiences and strategies. To date, the podcast has over hundreds of episodes and addresses a wide variety of topics and challenges faced everyday by entrepreneurs. And in 2019, he launched another podcast - Going Solo that’s dedicated to disseminating strategies shared by highly-skilled professionals to establish a business of their own, especially after experiencing a late career job loss. We all face a scary transition at some point in our professional lives. Whether you want to break free of the employee lifestyle, your position is terminated or you just want to make a change, zeroing in on what you’re good at is the key to obtaining quality results. Today’s guest, David Shriner-Cahn has made that transition, and he’s here to help you, too!David was an employee for almost 30 years as a chemical engineer. In 2006, he made the shift into entrepreneurship, starting TEND Strategic Partners and eventually the “Smashing the Plateau” podcast in 2014. He also launched the “Going Solo” podcast in 2019. His goal is to help experts start up their own coaching and consulting businesses, after years of being an employee. While working with professionals from all industries, he found that many of them had the knowledge to coach and consult others, but lacked the sales and marketing skills to grow their own practice. That’s where his team comes in! He’s helped experts from all over the world transition into a new career path. Finding a Quality NicheYou’ve probably heard thousands of people say that you have to find a niche market to be successful. While that is partly true, David believes that you can work smarter and make money by finding a quality niche.Let’s say you want to provide marketing services to businesses. Great! There are about a billion businesses that need marketing services. Do you have the infrastructure to take on that many businesses? Of course not. But, let’s say you specialize in running Facebook ads for businesses with a $10,000 annual budget for advertising. While that is specific, it allows you to find a quality niche without becoming overwhelmed. Slow Down and ReflectWhen we think of trauma and grief, job loss typically doesn’t come to mind. However, David emphasizes that leaving a job after years and years is a form of trauma. For years, you may have had the same job title, same coworkers and the same daily routine. Transitioning away from that is a lot to take in, especially when starting a new, entrepreneurial path. David’s advice to those going through that transition is this: Take some time to grieve. You probably want to hit the ground running and start building your new business, but you need time to reflect. Take time to relax, practice healthy habits and slowly begin the process of starting your business. Rushing an idea will ultimately come back to haunt you later. Are you ready to work with David and learn how to transition into the wonderful world of entrepreneurship? Visit his website, or listen to “Smashing the Plateau” and “Going Solo” to learn more.

David Shriner-Cahn, the President of Tend Strategic Partners, talks to Vinnie about breaking through as an entrepreneur and discusses his show 'Smashing the Plateau'
David Shriner-Cahn On today's episode, Jaime Jay welcomes David Shriner-Cahn. David is the President of Tend Strategic Partners and the host of his own show named Smashing the Plateau. Listen to his 5-step system and learn how you can advance to the next level! Strategic Partner for Success David is dedicated to helping business leaders fully achieve their goals. In fact, he started his podcast to reach out to more individuals that are stuck in a plateau. He and his team focus on organizations, entrepreneurs, and other professionals who are not getting the success they really want. “You just feel stuck. It's like your business is beginning to feel like a job.” -David Shriner-Cahn Many of these individuals experience a gap between their goals and their present situation. The problem is it isn't closing in, and most likely they are being led even farther. Tending a Business Those experiencing a plateau need to do something differently to close in the gap. To help them out, David works with them individually and in groups. Together they focus on creating long term success. “You have to tend to your business over a long period of time before you're able to see the fruits of your labor.” -David Shriner-Cahn Managing or running a business is similar to raising crops. For some types of crops, it takes years before you can harvest them. In the process, you need to tend them and ensure that what they produce are of good quality. The Necessity for Change It is important for mid-career individuals to first realize the necessity of change. Change is uncomfortable to most people. However, they need to change something before they get used to doing their old routines. “If we expect a different kind of result and we're doing the same thing over and over again, that is the definition of insanity.” -David Shriner-Cahn People need to plan to create change. Those who are stuck are usually overwhelmed by the ideas they get from around them. It shouldn't pull them down. Hear about David Shriner-Cahn and know how you can create your own financial destiny. You know the phrase, “it's not the destination, but the journey that matters”? Well, I think if it's the destination you want, it can still be pretty darn good.
