One of my goals is to help you develop an Alchemist Mindset. Differing from the concepts of a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. This is to have a willingness to learn from things that have nothing to do with what you do, but turning it into something valuable for yourself. Doing business with you must feel like a luxury - customers will accept no less. My new book, Sell to the Rich: The Insiders Handbook to Selling Luxury, offers the inside secrets of how luxury buyers think and behave, enabling you to connect with those clients and earn their trust at a higher level. You must elevate yourself and the standards of your business in order to make the experience for every customer a luxury. This is more than a business book, it's your call to greatness. The Self Employed Life podcast will be coming to an end with episode 1000, celebrating more than 11 years. Just as with my photography business, I didn't make this decision because I felt bored or out of opportunity. I made the decision because I felt complete. I will be starting a new podcast called Selling Luxury with Jeffrey Shaw. When I started The Self Employed Life podcast, it was originally called Creative Warriors in August, 2014, but it quickly morphed and I rebranded it as The Self Employed Life to retain all the listeners. This new podcast will be a hard stop and start from ground zero because I want listeners to step up to whether or not this is the content they want. Jeffrey Shaw - job title and Author of The Self-Employed Life: Business and Personal Development Strategies That Create Sustainable Success This quote will be added soon, sorry! Jeffrey Shaw became one of the most preeminent portrait photographers in the United States. His on-location style and fine craftsmanship made him the go-to photographer for families of C-suite executives of Anheuser-Busch, Twitter, and many others, Supermodel Stephanie Seymour, news anchors Jim Nantz and David Bloom, sports icons Tom Seaver, Pat Riley, and Wall Street executives too many to mention. His portraits appeared on The Oprah Show, CBS News, in People and O Magazine and hang at Harvard University and The Norman Vincent Peale Center. After 35 years of exceptional service to his exclusive clientele, Jeffrey decided to share his knowledge of business, branding, and marketing to support self-employed and small business owners as well as progressive-minded companies. He's an in-demand keynote speaker at conferences such as HOW Design, Growth Marketing, corporations the likes of Verizon and BMW, and institutions such as Florida Atlantic University and the Adams Center for Entrepreneurship. Jeffrey is also the author of two books, LINGO and The Self-Employed Life, a LinkedIn Learning instructor, and a regular contributor to various publications. In 2014, Jeffrey started a podcast, Creative Warriors, later rebranded as The Self-Employed Life which is amongst the top 15% of all podcasts. Peruquois - Recording Artist and Healer This quote will be added soon, sorry! Around the world, she fills huge stadiums, arenas and concert halls bigger than Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall—often averaging 6,000 a night! But in North America, she is still a mystery to be discovered! Peruquois (pronounced Peru-Kua)—she is called by one name only—is a phenomenon in herself. Bringing forth an extraordinary healing sound that is part singing in a range never heard before on the planet, part multidimensional healing, part evoking the feminine goddess within all women—Peruquois stands alone. There is no one else like her. She is the world leader in applied spirituality for women. International recording star, renowned wisdom teacher, accomplished female shaman, master of multicultural music from jazz to Indian Classic to a sound uniquely her own, Peruquois opens women to a part of themselves often long buried, or maybe never even discovered. She is committed to helping women experience a true deep love of themselves. Using an ultra-high/low overtone form of singing she developed, Peruquois can produce up to four voices at a time! A unique sound that has been scientifically-tested to heal in many concerts conducted with her. But it's her remarkable story of how this voice unfolded that is so compelling! Losing her father to a fishing accident at three only began the first of her travails. At 11, she had both legs detached above the knee and then reattached in a botched surgery designed to cure genetic hip rotation, nearly disabling her. Her suffering committed her to rising above pain to focus on living fully and finding the love within. She left home at 15 to find her own way and despite parental disapproval, she turned to her passion to sing as a career. In just one year, she covered 10 years of music education –and, at 19, passed the exams to enter the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts as a jazz vocalist.

I often describe the Creative Warriors community as people who find meaning through their work. Some people are ok with doing less meaningful work because they find meaning in other areas of their life. And others, like many of my coaching clients, are transitioning out of corporate work into that of self-employed to find more meaning in what they do. There is a common concept in the business coaching world of The Magic Wand. If you could wave a magic wand and do anything in the world and do it well, what would it be? Additionally, I implore my listeners to think about not just what they would do, but why they haven't tried to pick up that wand yet? With understanding oneself comes the burden of responsibility to actually do the thing. Which, I admit, can be terrifying. And so it is important to peel back the layers that are holding us back. Perhaps society has told you that only certain jobs are meaningful or that you have to be a certain way to do the work that you deeply want to do? To unpack this further I've brought on speaker and author, Tom Morin. After his military career, Tom became a project manager and people leader in multinational corporations. Toward the end of his corporate career, he co-founded Work Innovation Partners before providing consulting and coaching services through Work Feels Good. Tom is an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University and his book Your Best Work shares his own story and those of others who have discovered how to find meaning at work—and, using his powerful three-step process, shows how you can find the courage to shake off stereotypes and expectations, and create a working life that's uniquely right for you. To learn how to find work that you won't want to stop, download this episode now. THE MEANINGFUL WARRIOR “A vision is a future state, stated in the present tense.” - Tom Morin Highlights - Purpose drives us; meaning defines us. Goals come last, vision comes first. Our unique stories are important. Society doesn't always give us permission to be who we are to fit in our work. We are told that some jobs are more meaningful than others. Society often denies permission for us to find certain work meaningful. Sometimes starting with “what” is more powerful than starting with “why.” A vision is a future state, stated in the present tense. Humans are wired to be good to each other. If we can connect what we do with contributing to the well-being of others we will find our greatest motivation to succeed. There seem to be as many definitions of strategy as there are people on earth. Practically every business owner has different ideas of what strategy means and how to apply it. It's time we take a moment to setting our heads straight about strategy. Applying informed strategic practices can be the deciding factor in how successful a business is. Most businesses are built backwards. The right way to build your business is to deeply understand your ideal customer and then construct your business in a way that speaks to them. Additionally, there are many myths about strategy practices that I want to bust for my community of Creative Warriors. To break down the strategic mindset for us, I've brought on Chuck Bamford. The other half is finding two or three things that truly separate you from your competitors. It is a myth that we shouldn't care about what our competitors think. Every business has a perfect customer. Cost cutting is not a strategy. Good strategy design starts outside the organization. Structure follows strategy. Everyone knows I'm always looking for new ways of leveraging my expertise. Creatives often believe that the way to becoming well known in an industry is to start with creativity and then strategize around that. But what if we have it backwards? What if first we start with the science behind success and then apply the craft? Personally, I'm great at creating content but terrible at sharing it. I've been open about my resistance to things like SEO and social media. But now is a great time to break those mindset blocks. Let's begin to reframe our limiting beliefs as liberating truths. I truly want every single one of you heart-centered Creative Warriors to have the tools to step into the light and become well known in all the wonderful things you do. So that's what I'm hoping my guest today will help with. Michael Stelzner is the founder of Social Media Examiner, author of the books Launch and Writing White Papers, and the man behind Social Media Marketing World–the industry's largest conference. He's also host of the Social Media Marketing podcast and founder of the Social Media Marketing Society. To learn why becoming well known should not be a destination but a strategy, download this episode now. THE WARRIOR OF COMPASSION “Whenever there is a disruption there is always an opportunity.” - Michael Stelzner Highlights - Anybody can become well known. Always start with the science- understand what makes people tick. Then add the creativity. There will always be someone out there who will resonate with your voice. Once you know what your audience needs, act on it without thinking. People love hearing methods and processes. Figure out how to be selected in order to accelerate. You can become well known without being vain. The six steps to becoming well known: Depict: Storyboard what you want to happen. Research: Understand intimately who you want to reach and their struggles. Experiment: Discern quickly whether the message matches the audience. Augment: Take the successful data and develop them into your talking points, stories, and strategy. Make: Take everything you've developed and turn into a name for yourself. Sync: Build mutually beneficial relationships. The advancement of technology and AI can be a touchy subject for some. However, I love digging into it because I feel it is important - especially now- to find peace with technology and get on the right side of the AI movement. I always want to encourage all the Creative Warriors out there to take advantage of the incredible technology we have at our fingertips. Understanding the realities, benefits, and direction of the tech movement could make the difference between scaling a business and being left in the dirt. How might technology make your time scalable? What does it mean for small businesses and how can they stay ahead of the curve? To break down why we shouldn't fear technology I've brought on speaker, consultant, and author specializing in tech-driven people power, Rhonda Scharf. For over 25 years, Rhonda has helped companies and individuals get on the right track and improve their productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency. She's conducted more than 2,500 training workshops and seminars for Fortune 100 companies and tens of thousands of people worldwide. Her new book is Alexa Is Stealing Your Job: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Your Future provides an invaluable guided tour of where the world has been with artificial intelligence, and how it will impact our lives and careers. The train has already gone through town.” - Rhonda Scharf Highlights - Technology is a clearing house; it exposes those who have the quality and substance to rise. AI is a cultural, mindset, and organizational shift. Everyone gave up their privacy 20 years ago when they got a cellphone Get on the right side of technology. Technology can give you the gift of time. Technology is a human assist not a take over. AI is going to open up three job types: trainers, explainers, and sustainers. I'll admit, as someone who is constantly creating content, I'm often overwhelmed by it. But it is a topic that frequently comes up in my client sessions and one that is especially relevant right now. At a time when many of us are home and working on sharing more content with the world, it is important to make sure that what we create still has a purpose. With all the formats available to us now, how can we get our message out, support our business, and still keep ideas fresh, new, and interesting? Most people gravitate to formats they're most comfortable in. I, for one, much prefer audio over writing. So how can we Creative Warriors stretch ourselves and not just benefit from unfamiliar formats, but feel confident in them, too? To help us dig into how to tap into unlimited content ideas, I've brought on author, speaker, and online educator, Melanie Deziel. Melanie Deziel is the founder of StoryFuel, the author of “The Content Fuel Framework: How to Generate Unlimited Story ideas,” and an international keynote speaker recognized as one of the world's leading experts in native advertising and branded content. As a speaker, she's taught marketers around the globe to brainstorm better, think like journalists and tell better brand stories. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, and has graced the stages of industry-leading events like Content Marketing World, Native Ad Days, Social Media Marketing World, Inbound, SXSW, and more. Melanie believes that with the right framework, everyone is capable of creating unlimited content. To learn how to ignite your story fuel, download this episode now. THE WARRIOR OF SYSTEMS “Do the work, before the work.” - Melanie Deziel Highlights - With the right framework, everyone can strengthen their content creating muscles. Don't create content just to create content. It needs to drive your purpose. Every piece of content is made up of focus and format. A lot of online search is people looking for process-based, or how-to, content. The best way to tell a story is to find one example that makes the case for your point and tell that smaller story in great detail. Adding a personal opinion can be a helpful tool for differentiating content. Repurposing and reformatting existing content is a good place to start in unfamiliar formats. As we move deeper into this stressful time of waiting out the coronavirus, many of us are working from home or isolating ourselves for safety. I find that when there is uncertainty or chaos abound, that is when it is most important to push forward with whatever it is that makes us Creative Warriors. This is the perfect time to turn your space into one that will keep you on a path of productivity and help ease anxieties. And often that means decluttering. Your home or office should be a tool that you need to do your best out in the world. So, it is important to be mindful about how we relate to our stuff. Each of us has specific blocks that keep us from getting rid of things we don't need. Whether they are emotional or strategic, we often don't realize the real reasons behind why we are prone to clutter in certain areas of our homes. The first step is paying attention. From there we can begin to live more clutter-free lives. To dive deeper into the subject of decluttering your space to find freedom and success, I've brought on the founder of dClutterfly, Tracy McCubbin. dClutterfly is a rapidly expanding organizing company with thousands of happy clients. Tracy-trained teams are dispatched around the country, helping people break through their own ClutterBlocks, and make space for what matters. Tracy is also the author of the newly published book, “Making Space, Clutter-Free: The Last Book on Decluttering You'll Ever Need” and is a regularly featured expert in the media, including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, goop, Home & Family, Real Simple, mindbodygreen, NBC, KTLA Morning Show, KCAL9, and more. Learn how to make space for what really matters by downloading this episode now. THE PAST ACCOMPLISHMENT WARRIOR “I want you to feel like you own your stuff and your stuff doesn't own you.” - Tracy McCubbin Highlights - The brain experiences decision fatigue and clutter adds more decisions to your tired brain. Your clutter blocks are the things that keep you from getting rid of the stuff around us. There are affirmations you can tell yourself to help break you of your clutter blocks. Many people feel shame asking for help to declutter, when it should be a proud moment. The Lipstick Effect: even though things might be falling apart, we feel compelled to purchase something that makes us feel like things are ok. There is an association between certain rooms in our homes and why we clutter that particular space. The first step is to pay attention to the trouble spots in your day-to-day. Start small. Don't be a weekend warrior. Start with a drawer. I hesitated to discuss the journey to becoming a speaker because it is such a specific subject and, frankly, there's a lot of content out there on it. However, there remains a lot of valuable information about the speaking industry that is still untapped and whether or not you are pursuing a career in speaking, understanding it can be valuable to all Creative Warriors. I love being a keynote speaker and I've put the work in to pursuing a successful career in it. But my path is unique to my space. There isn't one way to become a speaker. It can mean different things to different people. Whether it's the honing in on the craft, building a business model, or simply getting the gigs there are multiple pieces to carving out your unique space in seaking. Often times we assume that the more we can offer, the more opportunities we will get. That's not necessarily the case. To dive deeper into understanding the speaking industry, I've brought on nationally known speaker, podcaster, and author, Grant Baldwin. Grant Baldwin is a nationally known speaker, podcaster, and author who has helped thousands of people start and build their own speaking businesses through his Booked and Paid to Speak Training Course. Regularly featured in the national media, including Forbes, Inc., Entrepreneur, and the Huffington Post, his “Reality Check” curriculum is taught in over 400 high schools nationwide. A podcaster since 2014, he has published over 300 podcast episodes that have been downloaded over 1.5 million times. Get ready to unleash your inner speaker by downloading this episode now. THE WARRIOR OF CONFIDENCE “Be the steakhouse, not the buffet.”-Grant Baldwin Highlights - There isn't one way to become a speaker. It is important to be good at speaking as well as getting gigs. The more things you offer as a speaker, the less opportunities you'll have. More focus equals more opportunity. The five steps to becoming a speaker: There are seven primary industries with different types of audiences for speakers. It is important to identify the ones you will focus on. Keynotes, workshops, seminars are the three primary types of talks. To transition stories back to the point of the talk always answer, "So what? Now what?" You make the rules to the game. Some of you might know that I moved down to Miami from New York City in order to combine my love for city life, architecture, and a more relaxed pace of living. For me, Miami inspires me in more ways than one. Additionally, I've always known that my environment heavily informs my productivity and thus have always strived to create an optimal workspace that promotes both efficiency and creativity. So how can we best design our spaces to spark creativity? There are some tactics that many might already know, like surrounding yourself with certain objects, scents, and sounds. But for many the design ends there. There are, however, many studies that have linked a variety of techniques to robust idea formation, and I'm thrilled to share some of these fascinating tactics with all of you Creative Warriors today. To help me dive deep into designing the best creative spaces I've brought on, architect, author, and educator, Donald Rattner. Donald helps individuals and organizations maximize their creativity by drawing on scientific research into the psychology of space. He has taught at the University of Illinois, New York Academy of Art, New York University, and Parsons School of Design. His work has been featured on CNN and in such publications as The New York Times, Work Design Magazine, and Better Humans. He holds a Bachelor's in art history from Columbia and a Masters of Architecture from Princeton. To learn how to be your own creative architect, download this episode now. THE FLEXIBILITY WARRIOR “A lot of creativity happens under the hood.” - Donald Rattner Highlights - Surrogate creative spaces can be fruitful for sparking new ideas. Routinization of time and place is extremely important for creative people. The color blue stimulates idea formation. Working in a lofty, open space (or creating the illusion of one) enhances creativity. Looking back on memories can create insightful thinking and build the right positive mood for creative thinking. Great ideas often come when you are physically or mentally not at your best. Always have a notepad available for these sudden sparks of ideas. Choose curved lines over straight ones. A little bit of background noise- about 70 decimals- is optimal for idea formation. Dressing nicely can have an effect on your cognitive style. I love discovering new ways of thinking, especially if it means finding creative ways to view my business from a different angle. Especially when things are going well, it can be difficult to see the things that might be holding your business back. The question then becomes, what can we do to see our business with fresh eyes? Every once in awhile brands should do an internal health check. Not only to clear out what is not working, but also to find new ways of connecting with more clients. As my guests and I often say here on Creative Warriors, business is about human connection and not just the product. But sometimes it takes a bit of thinking outside of the box, or “thinking wildly,” to find the right answers. To dive deeper into thinking I've brought on author and a founding partner of The Clearing, Richard Buchanan. The Clearing was voted the UK's best branding consultancy at The Drum's Network Awards two years running. His work with brands including McLaren, Fitness First, Wimbledon and Ocado has won more than thirty industry awards, including D&AD and DBA Design Effectiveness. Richard's book Wild Thinking provides readers with the confidence to run their business differently, through unique access to thinking from the most original organizations in business today. Start thinking wildly about growing your business; download this episode now. THE HOURGLASS WARRIOR “We're humans. We're not machines.” -Richard Buchanan Highlights - The brands that work go straight to the heart of a human need and provide an emotional benefit. Businesses need to pay attention to societal needs as well. Just because you've always done something, doesn't mean it's still valuable. Often, less is more. We're often too close to our own business to be objective. It's imperative to refresh thinking. There are benefits to not being perfect. Being human is important. It is important to be clear about what quality means within the context of your market. Finding the right collaborators can accelerate your business. In big ways and in little ways, our worlds often get rocked. Especially as Creative Warriors. It can be something like losing a client, something not working or a sudden change. My world was rocked in a big way recently with the sudden death of my 59-year-old brother just before Christmas. We're going to change things up on Creative Warriors. This week I'm thrilled to welcome a guest who's 6-week course I will be taking in the new year. Once I've finished the course, I plan on having this guest back to discuss my results. Sure, it's a little intimidating to be doing this so publicly. But my goal is to show you all how important this work can be. What is it I'm going to be working on? It's called “Positive Intelligence,” or “PQ” for short, and I'm hoping this year we can all raise our PQ together. Positive Intelligence is the measure of your mental fitness, or your positivity quotient. It is how quickly you can recover from negative reactions to challenges and turn them into positive challenges. Understanding one's PQ is also understanding what your “saboteur” is and how or why your personal mindset can be overtaken by negative things. When we work on our PQ we can begin to live, work, and respond from a place of joy, peace, love, and inspiration. To dive deeper into understanding the power of positivity, I've brought on Stanford lecturer and CEO coach, Shirzad Chamine. Shirzad is the author of the New York Times bestselling Positive Intelligence. He has been the CEO of the largest coach training organization in the world, having trained faculty at Stanford and Yale business schools. His background includes PhD studies in neuroscience in addition to a BA in psychology, an MS in electrical engineering, and an MBA from Stanford. Get ready to upgrade your life by increasing you positivity by downloading this episode now. THE WARRIOR OF EMPATHY “The snowman will melt under the light of your awareness” -Shirzad Chamine” -Shirzad Chamine Highlights - There are 10 Saboteurs. By having an understanding of your personal saboteurs, you can begin to break free from them. All Saboteurs try to control you through fear. The Sage in you is all about love. Saboteurs will also create your great strength and greatest sensitivity. There are 5 Powers of The Sage: empathize, explore, innovate, navigate, and activate. Absolutely every circumstance can be turned into a gift and opportunity. The self-command muscle is what we need to strengthen to activate the PQ part of our brain. I always love it when an episode lands on Christmas Day! It's yet another time when I get to reflect and be thankful for everything my Creative Warriors community has given me. So, I wanted to revisit one of our special Christmas episodes where we had two very special guests. First, we had the extremely rare opportunity to chat with the big man himself-- Santa Claus! I mean, seriously, how often do you get the chance to speak directly to Santa?! Our second guest is my good friend and fellow warrior, the very talented Cecelia Otto who performed a special holiday song for us. It's one of my favorite songs! I loved this very special episode, and send you all my very best wishes for the holidays. THE WARRIORS OF HOLIDAY SPIRIT “Love has always stayed the same. Love is love.” -Santa Clause Highlights - We should give and receive all year long. Presents have changed, but love has always stayed the same. On this episode of “The Shine Strategy,” I’m excited to bring you the host of the “Creative Warriors” podcast, Jeffrey Shaw, who is also a brand consultant, TEDx speaker and author of Lingo: Discover Your Ideal Customer’s Secret Language and Make Your Business Irresistible. Jeffrey struggled to provide high end portrait photography in a small country town. One day, a lady told him "I don't have the luxury of worrying about my children's memory. I'm struggling to pay for rent this month." Jeffrey realized, that by providing a luxury product, he was speaking his language (or lingo) to the wrong audience and that you can't convince someone to value something they don't hold. He set about on a journey to study his target audience and reinvented himself. Jeffrey uses his intuition as a photographer in his current passion as a branding and marketing consultant. He shares these powerful nuggets of life and business wisdom: - surround yourself with people that value who you are - share time and experience with people that share your values - have empathy and understanding of the people that you wish to serve - put yourself in the shoes of those you wish to serve, without judgement - as we head towards a world of higher technology, we are likely to crave more humanity and empathy - we choose to connect with those who take the time to express empathy and understanding for who they are - our clients need to know that we 'get them' - determine what emotionally triggers your clients to say yes and be loyal to a brand and how did the brand honor that loyalty and keep those customers - businesses need to evolve quickly emotionally as the values of society change - ask your clients "what drives you crazy", this can become the catalyst for the work that you do Having a keen eye isn’t just for what one sees, but also for what one senses. Having been one of the most sought after portrait photographers in the U.S. for more than three decades, Jeffrey Shaw, a.k.a. the Lingo Guy, uses this honed intuition to teach entrepreneurs how to attract their ideal customers by speaking their Secret Language. Welcome to the 500th Episode of Creative Warriors! In just under five years, we have over a million downloads and 500 episodes. I was planning on getting a “big name” or celebrity to celebrate this milestone, but I realized that none of that really matters. What matters is the community of warriors we have built in over 200 countries and all the people behind-the-scenes who make this all possible. On this episode, I share my favorite interview, my most difficult interview, and the time someone killed a fly in the middle of an interview! I talk about the insecurity that led me to begin the podcast in the first place and open up about my struggle to live authentically. I also dive deeper into my personal life and history than I ever have before. I've brought on my producers, Colin Thompson and Enid Cortes from Kast Media, my booker Cheryl Kaiser, and logo designer Rachel Dennis. I didn't know how it was going to go, but there are things we talk about that anyone who listens can take and apply to their business. You'll be challenged to live authentically even though it's not always easy and to find greater meaning in your design and execution. WARRIORS OF CREATIVITY, BREATHING, MOXIE, & SURRENDER “The show became more popular when I stopped caring if it was popular.” - Jeffrey Shaw Highlights - “Your level of success rarely exceeds your level of personal development.” - Jim Rohn One of the characteristics of a successful leader is the ability to take information and apply it to them. Our guests either have to be about creativity, service, or financial wellbeing. If you're very obvious and clear about your message, you'll get chosen. Creative Warriors wasn't meant for creatives, it was meant to be about creative solutions to business. Good design conveys personal meaning while also creating new meanings. A lot of us Creative Warriors have lots of passion but no initiative. We have a dream and a talent, but we often don't know where to put our energy. We can't tell the difference between passing fancies and things that are worth doing. Fear can also hold us back from putting all of our energy into something because we're scared that we'll get stuck on the wrong path. If taking the first step to allow opportunity to unfold is difficult, know that baby steps are a great way to start. It's like a pianist doing scales or a basketball player practicing their shots. You have to start with the basics and do them over and over to build up to your big dream. In his book Initiative, Joshua Spodek gives us concrete exercises, like the pianist's scales, that we can do that develop passions and take initiative. To expose us to some of these initiative exercises, I've brought Joshua onto the podcast. Joshua Spodek, PhD, MBA, TEDx speaker, wrote the #1 bestselling Leadership Step by Step, hosts the award-winning Leadership and the Environment podcast, is a professor at NYU, writes a column for Inc., and blogs daily at joshuaspodek.com. He holds five Ivy League degrees, including a PhD in astrophysics and an MBA from Columbia, where he studied under a Nobel Laureate. He left academia to found a venture to market an invention that showed animated images to subway riders between stations. To learn how to discover passions and take initiative, download this episode now. THE CURIOSITY WARRIOR “You can't just pick up a basketball and think you're Lebron James.” - Joshua Spodek Highlights - Passion is an intense emotion. Initiative is to act on something. Ideally, you take initiative on a passion. Practice the basics. When you combine passion and initiative, hard work is fun. The way to get past emotional barriers is with baby steps. IAP: The “Initiative, Action, Passion” cycle. 5 Unsolved Problems Exercise: write down 5 Unsolved Problems (big or small) and write down a solution for each. Ask for advice rather than judgment. People will then root for you to succeed because they feel they are part of the solution. It's very hard to imagine retirement- it can feel like a far-off dream. It's difficult to save for something that you can't even imagine. Because of this, a lot of us avoid thinking or talking about money at all. It doesn't feel good. Like a diet, budgets are something we have negative feelings toward and ultimately end up abandoning. It's better to put your finances in a positive light. Instead of feeling like you don't have enough money, start realizing that you are richer than you think. Come from a place of gratitude for what you have and know that it's actually your habits that are causing problems with your finances, not your income. I used to be a major spender, so I was so happy to have John David Mann on for a third time to talk about his new book The Latte Factor. John is an award-winning author whose writings have earned the Axiom Business Book Award, the Nautilus Award, and Taiwan's Golden Book Award for Innovation. The Go-Giver was also honored with the Living Now Book Awards “Evergreen Medal” in 2017 for its “contributions to positive global change,” and cited on Inc.'s “Most Motivational Books Ever Written” and HubSpot's “20 Most Highly Rated Sales Books of All Time”; The Go-Giver Leader was listed on Entrepreneur magazine's “10 Books Every Leader Should Read” and Forbes magazine's “8 Books Every Young Leader Should Read.” His 2012 Take the Lead was named Best Leadership Book of 2011 by Tom Peters and the Washington Post. It was great to have John on Creative Warriors for the third time. To learn more about The Latte Factor and how to fund your dreams, download this episode now. THE PUPPY DOG WARRIOR “If you wait until you have extra, you'll be waiting forever.” - John David Mann Highlights - There are three myths of money. The first one is “make more money and you'll be rich.” Most of us are bad at saving because we don't have a concrete idea of why we are saving. Rechannel your daily luxuries. You need to align your spending with your values. Instead of budgeting, think of what you want to fund. It's the difference between a negative fuel source and a positive fuel source. Set yourself up for success. The second myth of money is “it takes money to make money.” Set up automatic savings so you don't have to think about it.
