2-11-2023 Passed Ball Show. John opens up this program by talking about the real football championship history of the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, not just in the “Super Bowl era.” John honors the Eagles NFL Championships in 1949, 1949, and 1960 while talking about greats like Steve Van Buren, Norm Van Brocklin, and Chuck Bednarik. John then talks about the 1962 AFL Champion Dallas Texans, led by Hall of Fame Coach Hank Stram and HOF QB Len Dawson. John then gets into his This Date in Sports History segment when he remembers Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson, the NHL Players Association forming and the Philadelphia 76ers losing their 20th straight game. Finally, John gives his Super Bowl 57 prediction as he hopes for a competitive and entertaining game.
2-9-2023 Passed Ball Show. John spends this program talking about the overnight trade of Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns from the Brooklyn Nets. John talks about the opportunities that exist with the young Nets core and how it will impact their playoff position in the Eastern Conference. John believes it is easier for the Nets to sell a post Durant/ Irving era to the fans and they have now become an underdog story. He believes this move could put the Suns over the top and praises General Manager James Jones for getting this deal done. When it comes to the Los Angeles Lakers, John believes that while the trade of Russell Westbrook netted them useful players in return, the pressure is on this team to start to move in the right direction. Westbrook is no longer there to be the scapegoat. Finally, John talks about Bill Veeck, Satchel Paige, Joe Louis, and mentions the year of 1540 in this episode's version of This Date in Sports History.
One of the reasons The Ford Fiesta is happening is because there are Harrison Ford movies we've never seen. Paul and Adam take a deep dive into Hanover Street, one of the many war movies Harrison Ford was involved in after Star Wars. Is this the type of film that solidifies Ford's status as a major movie star? ...not really! It's EPISODE 41 of FRIENDS AND RIVALS! No more Steve takeovers; we're back to what we do best! Let's face it, we need other sports right now to get us through the pre-season doldrums. But in addition to our shock and awe of witnessing vintage Mike Stan...Mike Gianc...Giancarlo Stanton, we DO get into the pre-season happenings of the Rangers, Islanders, Devils, and Penguins. We speculate what the Flyers' next "goal song" should be (if they choose to score at all this season which none of us truly care about). There's ONE trivia question with Bill not Steve, there's 10 Impressions with Nick not Steve (but as Nick courteously points out, all 10 don't take as long as one goll-darn trivia question), and This Date in Steve's Stomach with...well...Steve. Sorry, we couldn't shake him loose altogether. Then, Steve writes a fake review praising Steve...oh wait I'm sorry he "didn't" write it himself (an obvious half truth as he definitely knows who did and put him or her up to it). If I am rambling more than usual today, it's because go f*** yourself. But get ALL DAT in Episode 41 of Friends and Rivals!
