What links an Australian app designer, a global police sting and this week's drugs bust in Wexford? A Dublin gang known as 'The Family.' Gardai say the group is now the primary drug trafficking cartel in Ireland after the Kinahan's network was dismantled. It's alleged to be involved in the multi million euro seizure of guns and cash in Dublin and Wexford earlier this week. The tip off came via Australian authorities which had infiltrated the Ghost messaging app. The encrypted software created by 32 year old Sydney man, Jay Je Yoon Jung, was the platform of choice for much of the Irish criminal fraternity. Security and Crime Editor Conor Lally explains how the Australians hacked into the app, how it was used in Ireland and analyses how gangs here might react.Presented by Aideen Finnegan. This week, I'm re-joined by David Coggeshall to talk The Family Plan, AppleTV+'s high-concept action-comedy about a dad, Mark Wahlberg, who has to take his family on the run when his past life as a hitman rears its ugly head. Released over the Christmas holiday season—as David notes in today's episode, the perfect time to capture families looking for something everyone age 10 to 100 can enjoy—the film “debuted as the most watched movie ever,” according to Deadline's sources at Apple. But the film was far from a sure thing. Find out why David's agents dropped him when they got the script, why the film's breakout character almost got cut from the picture altogether, and why Ciarán Hinds is one of the best in the business.

The Pursuit of Balance: Eight Hours for Work, Family, and RestIn the intricate tapestry of life, finding the delicate equilibrium between the demands of work, the embrace of family, and the rejuvenation of rest is a noble pursuit. The idea of dedicating eight hours to each of these pillars of existence is a poignant reminder of the profound significance of balance in our daily lives. While many find themselves entangled in the frenetic race for career success and financial prosperity, it is often the case that, in the twilight of their years, regrets center not on working more but on not having spent enough quality time with loved ones.Work: The Fulfillment of PurposeFor most individuals, work occupies a substantial portion of their waking hours. It is not merely a means to financial stability but also a channel through which they can manifest their talents, passions, and aspirations. Eight hours of work represent the pursuit of purpose and personal growth. It is a commitment to contributing to the world and securing the future for oneself and one's family. However, it is crucial to remember that work, while vital, should not consume every ounce of one's energy and time, lest it tip the balance.Family: The Wellspring of LoveThe eight hours devoted to family are a testament to the immeasurable value of human connection and relationships. Family is the nucleus of emotional support, love, and shared experiences. It is within these hours that bonds are nurtured, laughter is shared, and memories are created. It is a reminder that life's most treasured moments often unfold in the company of loved ones. Neglecting this crucial aspect of existence can lead to regrets that linger in the quiet moments of reflection.Rest: The Sanctuary for RevivalAmid the hustle and bustle of life, eight hours of rest are not to be underestimated. Rest is not a mere intermission but a sanctuary for physical and mental revival. It is within these hours that the body heals, the mind rejuvenates, and the soul finds solace. In a world perpetually wired and overstimulated, the pursuit of rest is akin to recharging one's inner batteries. Neglecting rest can lead to burnout, fatigue, and a depletion of the very vitality needed to excel in both work and family life.Regrets of Old AgeAs the sun sets on a life well-lived, it becomes evident that the pursuit of balance holds profound wisdom. Regrets that often echo in the hearts of the elderly seldom revolve around working longer hours or achieving greater career heights. Instead, the poignant lamentations center on missed opportunities to cherish the warmth of family bonds, to witness the growth of children, and to be present in the lives of those who matter most.In the grand tapestry of existence, the pursuit of balance—allocating eight hours for work, eight for family, and eight for rest—serves as a compass guiding individuals towards a life enriched by meaningful connections, personal fulfillment, and the preservation of one's own well-being. It is a reminder that the symphony of life finds its sweetest harmonies when we prioritize the irreplaceable moments shared with loved ones, for in the end, it is these moments that illuminate our journey and define the legacy we leave behind.

The podcast examines the book's distinct melding of real-world issues and magic, its complex depiction of family dynamics, and the unique linguistic features enriching the novel's narrative. This review also dissects the question: how much of life's challenges is due to a curse, and how much is self-inflicted or simply, bad luck?

Wade, called The Family Roe: An American Story. On day four, we speak about the later life of Jane Roe, Norma McCorvey, and how her opinions of abortion changed as she aged. Plus, we reflect on how the story of Roe v. Wade is different now that it has been overturned by the Supreme Court, and what it could mean for the future of civil rights in the United States.

Patriarch Leo Chao is murdered at his restaurant at the beginning of Lan Samantha Chang's new novel The Family Chao. Eventually family secrets and bitterness reveal themselves — much like a Dostoyevsky novel, from whom Chao took a lot of inspiration. But NPR's Scott Simon points out that even though this novel is about a murder, it's quite funny. Chang told Simon that she just enjoyed writing it so much that humor became part of it.

Welcome to Times Will Tell, The Times of Israel's weekly feature podcast. This week, we speak with journalist Joshua Prager, the author of "The Family Roe: An American Story," which was a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. "The Family Roe" tells the larger story of abortion in America through focussing on the stories of "Jane Roe," Norma McCorvey, and her three daughters -- including the baby she was carrying that spawned Roe V Wade. Our conversation was prompted by a leaked draft of a Supreme Court decision that could overturn the constitutional right to an abortion. We discuss this potential decision's implications. And finally, we talk about another book Prager wrote, "Half-Life," which charts the aftermath of a 1990 bus accident in Israel that left him paralyzed.  My destruction, my resurrection Half Life: Reflections from Jerusalem on a Broken Neck, by Joshua Prager Image: Journalist Joshua Prager, author of 'The Family Roe.' Despite the attention that Roe v. Wade has gotten throughout the years, there are still many details about the case that are obscure to the public. For one, the landmark case that legalized most abortions for women did not in fact end with an abortion. The baby, often referred to as Baby Roe, is Shelly Lynn Thornton, now a grown woman whose story is at the center of Joshua Prager's book The Family Roe. In an interview with All Things Considered, Prager told Michel Martin that through the family's story, he hoped to humanize the debate and help others see abortion "not through politics, but people."
