This month on Party in the Back we party with Cyclones In-Game Host Jay Kruz and one-time co-host of the Gameops.com Podcast Pat Walker from 3 Point Productions.
Orlando City was so close to making it back-to-back wins out west, but a foolish foul in the box allowed the Portland Timbers to fire up Timber Joey's saw and equalize in an eventual 1-1 draw. The Lions still did well to gain four of six points on two of the longest road trips they have in MLS. We break down the draw, discuss Mauricio Pereyra's injury, and select our Man of the Match. We're then joined by Jonathan Reimer, host of the Shoulder 2 Shoulder Podcast covering LAFC. Jonathan was kind enough to tell us what we can expect from Steve Cherundolo's Black & Gold when they visit Exploria Stadium this Saturday. Seems like LAFC still has a lot of great attacking players but now also has a good defense, which will make for a difficult task for the Lions on Saturday. Big thanks to Jonathan for helping us out. The Orlando Pride suffered their first loss of the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup and it was a controversial one. The Pride were thoroughly dominated by the Courage in North Carolina, but that still seemed like a harsh handball call on Gunny Jonsdottir that allowed the hosts to score their only goal of the match. Amanda Cromwell's team is doing well to limit opposition goals but the Pride are giving up chances and the ball a bit too frequently. Marta's injury won't help the team going forward, especially since it seems to be offensively challenged at the moment. OCB kicked off its season on Saturday and despite a sloppy start, the Young Lions prevailed on a brace by Orlando City first-round pick Jack Lynn. It was good to see the rookie score his first pro goals. The reserve side has some work to do but getting that first win of the season early could give the Young Lions some confidence. The USMNT had a huge week and that culminated in a stomping of Panama at Exploria Stadium Sunday night. Christian Pulisic scored a hat trick and most of the Yanks played well. It was a fantastic atmosphere and the fans that packed the house deserved that kind of performance — one the team desperately needed entering the final qualifying match day (today!). This week's mailbag was interested in the awful font used by MLS NEXT Pro, Moon Knight, the Orlando Pride's captaincy, and more. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. And we closed the show by giving our key match-ups and score predictions for Saturday's home match against LAFC. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 288 went down: 0:15 - Orlando City took four of six points from the West Coast but it could have been more. We're focusing on the positives, but still, it could have been more. 24:33 - Jonathan Reimer knows a thing or two about LAFC and he's here to tell us about all the terrifying attackers the team has. 47:46 - The Pride lost (and lost Marta), OCB won, the USMNT is on the cusp of World Cup qualification, we dig through the mailbag, and we make some predictions for Saturday. Timber Joey Webber is now one of the most recognized mascots in the world. Working of the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, he celebrates at games with amazing displays of chainsaws and chants. But, we sat down with him to find out more about how he became this phenomenon, the rising popularity of MLS, the Portland Thorn, and most importantly, how his work off the field is helping those in need. It's a great episode, with a great guest. Thanks Portland Timbers and Joey!
Yes, we had THAT conversation. Could you fire your own dad? Sounders‘ new dad is Zlatan and they are one bad result from being below the line. Cascadia Cup is up for grabs as Sounders travel to a LITERAL butt to play the Timbers, a team they haven’t beat this year. Don’t buy Timber Joey’s Etsy wares.

Rog and Davo marvel at Mexico's 1 - 0 victory over Germany and recap Day Four of Rogue State 2018. Plus, special guests Timbers owner Merritt Paulson and Timber Joey.
Orlando City did not, to put it mildly, do well in Portlandia. Timber Joey was able to fire up his chainsaw thrice which is only a third of the number of Lions who finished the match on the pitch against the Portland Timbers. It was an ugly, brutal 3-0 loss that left nothing to feel good about and so...yay, we get to talk about it! On the other hand, we also get to talk about the Orlando Pride, who punched their ticket to the 2017 NWSL playoffs — not because of their 0-0 draw against the Portland Thorns, but because the Seattle Reign lost to FC Kansas City. So, yay, we get to talk about that! We also discuss OCB’s 2-1 win over the Charleston Battery and what that means for the young Lions, who got just a gem of a goal from Pierre Da Silva on Saturday. Friend of the PawedCast, Jake Catanese from The Bent Musket stops by to discuss tonight’s match-up between Orlando City and the New England Revolution, and the firing of Jay Heaps. Plus, we’ve also got our key match-ups and score predictions for both New England and Saturday’s FC Dallas match-up, as well as our #AskTMLPC mailbag (though we’re mail free this week). Here’s how No. 105 unfurled: 0:12- I’m sick this week but not as sick as I felt watching that performance at Portland. But we give you our Man of the Match anyway and discuss the Pride in the playoffs and OCB as well. 31:57- Jake Catanese tells us all about the Revolution and what they’ve gone through this season and it doesn’t sound any more fun to be a Revs fan right now than a Lions fan, to be honest. 57:52- The mailbag is empty so we give some brief thoughts on HBO’s The Deuce, which we’re both watching right now. Plus our key match-ups and score predictions for Wednesday and Saturday. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Will Orlando City ever score a goal during the run of play at home? We think so, but even more importantly, we hope the club stops conceding in stoppage time (not that any other time is ultimately any better). After scoring twice at Montreal, the club came home and failed to score. But at least they generated a ton of tasty chances in what turned out to be another heartbreaking home loss. Like the Vancouver match, the Lions squandered chances to capture all three points against D.C. United and conceded on a stoppage time set piece to abandon even a lone consolation point. Michael, Andrew and Austin take some positives away from a game that lacked nothing from Orlando City but goals. We also welcome Will Conwell from Portland Timbers SB Nation blog Stumptown Footy and pick his brain for information on our opponents this Sunday in Oregon. And, as always, we give you our predictions, which all match this week, so you know that all three will be horribly wrong! Here's the rundown: 0:27- Michael, Andrew and Austin talk about dominating without winning vs. D.C. United and looking ahead to Portland Timbers FC. 19:26- Will gives us the 411 on Portland, Timber Joey and the Providence Park experience. 33:38- Final predictions and hey, don't forget we're on iTunes!
