Hey, soccer fans! Time to pivot to World Cup coverage and analysis! Nick starts with a breakdown of the roster as selected by head coach of the USMNT, Mauricio Pochettino. Stars like Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams are no surprise, but the inclusion of Tim Ream, Cristian Roldan, and Max Arfsten have people questioning their value and role on the team. Omissions of Diego Luna and Zavier Gozo also had people raising eyebrows. Tune in to hear Nick's takes on all the news surrounding the squad. Nick also gets into a discussion about Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady's selection to the team. There is no doubt Brady deserves the call-up, but can he compete for minutes with Matt Turner and Matt Freese? Also, we look at Brady's recent fine from Major League Soccer for embellishment, and Nick asks the difficult question if Brady is getting a bad reputation from the officials. Don't forget to go back and check out Nick's conversation with American soccer legend, Clint Mathis, in a prior episode. Tune in and join the conversation! We'll also react to The Guardian leak confirming Cristian Roldan on the USMNT roster (cue the meltdown from the USMNT bots and haters) and run through Pochettino's full squad and debate whether this group actually has a shot to perform at the World Cup.Follow Lobbing Scorchers: YouTube Instagram Bluesky TikTok Facebook Ari Liljenwall Noah Riffe Niko MorenoSPONSORSQED Coffee - a Seattle based roaster, coffee shop and coffee subscription service. Then, former USMNT midfielder and Fox Sports analyst Stu Holden joins The Cooligans to preview the massive summer ahead for American soccer. Stu opens up about the pressure facing the USMNT during a home World Cup, why he believes this tournament will transform soccer culture in the United States forever, and what advice he would give Christian Pulisic as the face of American soccer heading into the biggest moment of his career. Finally, the boys reveal their six World Cup dark horses and debate which nations could shock the football world this summer. Can the USMNT finally make a serious run on home soil? Which under-the-radar squads are being overlooked? And what teams have the perfect mix of talent, chemistry, and chaos to become this tournament's surprise story? .Timestamps: (8:00) - Arsenal win the Premier League! Bottlers no more? The guys build their strongest possible 26-man USMNT squads for the 2026 World Cup, debating difficult omissions, surprise inclusions, and what the ideal balance looks like for a team hosting the biggest tournament in the sport. How does this current generation compare to the teams that followed? The crew ranks the best USMNT World Cup squads since 1994 and debates where today's team stacks up historically. Plus, the guys preview the final weekend of action for Americans abroad. This week's episode has a little bit of everything. Jason starts the show with some catch-up on recent events in American soccer, including a review of the wild Wednesday night MLS action. Young players are making waves and Bruce Arena is doing his magic in San Jose. Jason also checks in on some of the American abroad news, including Ricardo Pepi's Wednesday brace and word out of Germany that Malik Tillman might want out of Bayer Leverkusen after just one year. Then the Rodius posts to do a very TBSS thing: A draft of players from past USMNT World Cup rosters. Here are the rules, which made it a challenge: First, Jason and Jared drafted which rosters they could pick from. Each selected 3 modern rosters, leaving out the 2022 USMNT. Each round was for one position. First round for GK, second round for LB, etc. A max of 4 players could be selected from each roster. A player could be selected more than once, provided he played different position and in multiple World Cup. We'll be posting the final teams on socials and in the Besties Slack, so be sure to join the TBSS Patreon to join in the debate. patreon.com/thebestsoccershow Learn more about your ad choices. Inter Miami were supposed to be unstoppable—but early in the season, they look anything but. Is this just a slow start, or is there something fundamentally wrong with how this team was built around Lionel Messi? We dig into whether David Beckham and the club's leadership miscalculated, why the supporting cast isn't clicking, and what Inter Miami can realistically do to fix things before expectations spiral out of control. Then we take a step back and look across the league. MLS always delivers chaos early in the season, but this year feels especially unpredictable. We break down the biggest surprises and disappointments so far, and spend real time on CF Montréal—a team that doesn't just look bad, but directionless. Is this a rebuild, a collapse, or something worse? Finally, we turn to the United States men's national soccer team and have an honest conversation about fear. Not optimism, not hype—fear. What are the two biggest things that could go wrong heading into the World Cup, and are fans ignoring obvious warning signs? We break down what's real, what's overblown, and what should genuinely worry supporters right now. Timestamps: (6:30) – Does Messi need a better squad around him?
