Using large amounts of streaming data increasingly requires interactive, real-time analytics and dashboards—and this applies to any industry, including tech. CTO and Co-Founder of Rockset Dhruba Borthakur shares how his company uses Apache Kafka® to perform complex joins, search, and aggregations on streaming data with low latencies. The Kafka database integrations allow his team to make a cloud-native analytics database that is a fundamental piece of enterprise infrastructure. Especially in e-commerce, logistics and manufacturing apps are typically receiving over 20 million events a day. As those events roll in, it is even more critical for real-time indexing to be queried with low latencies. This way, you can build high-performing and scalable dashboards that allow your organization to use clickstream and behavioral data to inform decisions and responses to consumer behavior. Typically, the data follow these steps:Events come in from mobile or web apps, such as clickstream or IoT dataThe app data is sent to the cloudData is fed into the database in real timeThis information is shared live on a dashboard or via SaaS application embedsFor example, when working with real-time analytics in real-time databases, both need to be continuously synced for optimal performance. If the latency is too significant, there can be a missed opportunity to interact with customers on their platform. You may want to write queries that join streaming data across transactional data or historical data lakes, even for complex analytics. You always want to make sure that the database performs at a speed and scale appropriate for customers to have a seamless experience. Using Rockset, you can write ANSI SQL on semi-structured and schemaless data. This way, you can achieve those complex joins with low latencies. Further data is required to supplement streaming data, but it can be easily supported through supported integrations. By having a solution for database requirements that are easily integrated and provide the correct data, you can make better decisions and maximize the result. EPISODE LINKSReal-Time Analytics and Monitoring Dashboards with Apache Kafka and RocksetWatch the video version of this podcastJoin the Confluent CommunityLearn more with Kafka tutorials, resources, and guides at Confluent DeveloperLive demo: Kafka streaming in 10 minutes on Confluent CloudUse 60PDCAST to get an additional $60 of free Confluent Cloud usage (details)

E86 - We’re back to finish our fun interview with Alison Arngrim, the wonderful Nellie Oleson actress, turned stand-up comedian and New York Times best-selling author. She talks about real-life 'Little House on the Prairie' mean girl moments, on-set rumors, what Michael Landon was like, her ringlet HAIR!, and why she thinks Little House child actors grew up to stay on the straight and narrow. We talk about how Alison is the David Hasselhoff of France and the hilarious reason why French cultural differences work in her favor. Joelle recounts stories when she pretended to be tomboy Laura, learned how to be blind like Mary, and even re-enacted the famous Nellie wheelchair scene, sans duck poop and radioactive waste of course! Alison answers some listener questions about her tv episodes and we learn the truth behind certain famous scenes. We also discuss the fact that The Rock might have a crush on her of sorts!Alison is the queen of reinvention and hustle, and tells us about her Nasty Nellie tours of Hollywood and her online stand-up shows. She is also a survivor of childhood abuse and now is a powerful advocate at the National Association to Protect Children www.Protect.org Hear her full story in her book, available on www.Bonnetheads.com. We talk about the anxiety during this stressful pandemic, but also the hopeful medical advances that are being made (llama vaccines?!), and how she copes by being a helper. She has found that daily readings of the 'Little House' books on her Facebook Live have helped her and her thousands of followers find comfort. She makes time for us between her stand-up shows and Facebook Live daily readings to tell us fascinating stories about growing up in Hollywood in the wild 1960’s and 70’s in a showbiz family. Hear what her family connections were to the fabulous Liberace and Debbie Reynolds, what it was like to live in the Chateau Marmont, and other mini tales from her book "Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated". We hear what it was like to be a child actor at that time in Los Angeles and how her auditions in front of Michael Landon went before she earned the part of Nasty Nellie! Some listener Q&A’s reveal if her tv mother Mrs. Harriet Oleson, played by Katherine MacGregor, was really as mean as she played on the show, and how Alison’s real-life friends and fans treated her in public. Find out what she and co-star Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls Wilder, are up to during the quarantine, and why she thinks all things "Little House" are having the resurgence and relevance they are today. #015: There are two tools that I use of the start of every project large or small, whether I'm working on a single short photo assignment or a multiyear photography project. As a freelancer with dozens of irons in the fire, I consider them absolutely vital for staying sane. The two tools are a scope of work and a work break down. This episode is Part One of a two-part series that walks you through how to utilize these in your own photography work. I know it might sound a little bit dry, but by the end of this episode you are going to be all about creating scope of works for your projects. Why? Because you'll see how a scope of work gives you clarity, keeps you motivated, and ultimately helps you be a smarter, more creative, and more effective conservation photographer. And you don't have to start from scratch! I'm handing you the same exact template I use at the beginning of any project, so that you can download it and get focused on your own project starting right now. Download my Scope of Work Template at JaymiH.com/15You'll LearnWhy a scope of work is such a powerful toolHow to complete each section of a scope of work, including: Premise: why your project existsGoals: what you want to accomplish through your projectDeliverables: what you create during your projectOut of scope: how you really define those boundaries around your projectTime frame: when you will accomplish your projectSuccess: how you know you did a great jobAnd how to repurpose one scope of work again and again for new projects, saving timeThis little bit of structure at the start of a project goes a long way. The focus that you put into shaping your project right from the very get go allows you the freedom to make informed decisions as the work progresses, so you can stay immersed in the fun, engaging part of turning your ideas into photographs. It transforms all that paralyzing chaos of a project into fodder for the creative process. It's powerful stuff, my friend!Read more at JaymiH.com/15Never miss an episode by signing up at JaymiH.com/ImpactAre you subscribed to the podcast? Do you believe it's possible to lose weight for good?Do you believe you can maintain your weight loss long term? No?How can you make your goal a reality if you don't believe it's really possible? Our thoughts are so powerful. After all, if you practice a thought enough times it becomes an ingrained belief that makes it seem like it's part of our reality. When I was a child I was told enough times by kids at school that I was fat. I believed it, and I also told myself that. I told myself that so many times over the decades that it became my reality: "I am fat". That made me feel depressed and shitty. And what did I do when I felt depressed and shitty? Comfort ate chocolate. Guess what result that action produced: weight gain! I inadvertently reinforced my own belief "I am fat (see it's true!)". The real truth? My shitty thoughts about myself appeared to be a fact, made me feel depressed, which drove my action to comfort eat chocolate which produced the result of the weight gain. Further reinforcing the belief. This is why our beliefs are so important when losing weight for the last time, we need to practice new thoughts, that produce new actions, and ultimately new results enough times so they become beliefs that serve us.In this episode we will discuss:- how to work out what beliefs you have that are driving your current actions- how to identify new thoughts that will produce different actions and results- how to practice this enough times so it becomes a new belief that's simply part of your realityWhat do you think?I'd love to hear from you - what beliefs did you find from doing this exercise? What's in this episode?Friends! I can't believe it's basically the end of the damn year! Where did this year go? I swear, it felt like yesterday when I was looking up at the clock in Virginia at this "interesting" end of year party with one of the best friends counting down until 2019 (and no more drinking). Crazy town! So, in celebration of this new year coming to close, I wanted to talk about the top five things I learned or came to discover this year. Let's dive on in, shall we?!Favorite Book: Self Compassion - Kristen NeffI have spoke about this book at length because it is that great. The exercises will really help you shape how you view yourself but how your sense of self impacts those in the world around you. I will always consult this book because I pick something up each time I read it. Favorite Album: Jimmy Lee - Raphael SaadiqSaadiq is a phenom and such a brilliant, insightful soul. I AM SO INTO HIM -- I don't even try to hide it but his most recent album just smacked me in my musical soul. If you are going through addiction or know someone who has suffered -- this will probably hit you in the feels somewhere. Hell, if you just love raw, honest music -- it will probably hit you too. Favorite Phrase: One day at a timeThis phrase is common in the recovery circles but it's such a simple, yet true phrase. You only have the one day, you can only take things one day at a damn time. It didn't really click with me until this year and is one of my mantras. It balances when I feel myself going into a spiral and not able to control everything. Favorite Break through: Being able to see peoples reactions from their viewpoint and not take it personally. It's their stuff not mine. In other words, holding space but with BOUNDARIES!Yo! Boundaries and being able to have them when I have had to deal with complex situations with people that I care about. GAME CHANGER. I think empathy gets confused with being a doormat, (don't think that it is) but my empathy has definitely grown when I was able to step outside of myself and just see the issue/problem for what it was. The good/bad on both sides. It boiled down to two people hurting or not getting their needs met. How can you not feel for that? It was nice being able to see it that way and not taking it in internally. I think it has allowed me to be more present for those closest to me. Favorite Thing about 2019: Recovery hands down!I can't believe it's coming up on a year. This year has been my most productive, my most vulnerable, my most introspective and even with all the damn tears that I shed -- the most loving and probably healthy. So happy that I made it out sober and can't wait to see what 2020 has in store for all of us. And as always, thank you for listening to my baby podcast. It was really a labor of love for me and something that I wanted to get out there in hopes that it would resonate with someone. I can't wait to pick things up with you all in the new year! Be safe, healthy and happy out there, friends! If possible, I would love for you to review me on iTunes, Google, Stitcher -- anywhere, really. Hit me up via the ways below!
