The first Arab-American Women Pro Driver, Toni Breidinger, talks with Renee on Beyond the Headlines with Renee Washington presented by Fox Sports Radio about how she embraced her passion and how she overcame the obstacles of being the first! .
Today's guest found her calling at the age of 9. You heard that right 9 years old. Toni Breidinger found her taste for speed when her father took her and twin sister Annie to Sonoma Raceway to race go-karts. From that moment on Toni hasn't looked back. Today, she's the all-time winningest female in United States Auto Club (USAC) history with 19 victories, a record that helped her get noticed and make the move into NASCAR's ARCA Menard Series. When asked about being the all-time winningest female Toni recognizes it's a great accomplishment but it's not the goal. The real goal, to become the all-time winningest driver. Ever. And she is well on her way. In February of this year, Toni made history as NASCAR's first Arab-American female driver, when she raced in the ARCA Menard Series at the Daytona International Speedway, finishing in 18th place. If that's not enough for you, she also dabbles in modeling, which is something else she determined she was going to do as a kid, when in her diary she wrote not only that she wanted to be a model, but what agency she wanted to work for. Fast forward 10 years later, and she is modeling for that exact agency. Crazy. Though all this is great, the most impressive part about Toni is her impact on the sport. She is single-handedly making racing accessible to new demographics all over the world. Her influence can be seen in young girls that are inspired and motivated to follow in the superstar's footsteps. Breaking barriers, blazing trails, and bringing NASCAR into a new generation, this is Toni Breidinger. In this episode Toni shares with us the importance of: Choosing a team that can help you achieve your goals Staying focused when bombarded with distractions Immersing yourself into your dreams Getting back on track after you have had a “big crash” Writing down your goals. Remember NASCAR? Yeah, neither do we. Stock car racing used to be the flag we’d fly as kids and there were plenty of fist fights on the playground over drivers, cars, and even the tobacco brand or the beer loyalties. And, depending on where you’re from, that might even still hold true for local dirt track heroes: did you enlist in the Slammin’ Sammy army or are you in the Kinser camp? Look, we all need heroes and NASCAR seemed to have forgotten that. And then, along came a young, Lebanese-American woman to the sport. Came up through kart racing as a kid. Set the record for most USAC wins by a female (19) on her way up the motorsport ladder. Smart. Media-savvy. And from California, no less. Suddenly, the opposite of everything we expected from this sport we once identified ourselves by, was coming true. And Toni Breidinger bundled it all up in a budding cult of personality that we’re fully digging. Come on over to BBQ this week and hang out with Toni. She’s fairly freakin’ amazing and turning everything you thought you knew about a stock car driver inside-out. The Skoal Car? Nope—the Huda Beauty Chevy. Pulled pork on the grille in the pits? Not for Toni – she’s vegan. But she did leave everything she knew in Silicon Valley and move to the heart of it all, Charlotte, NC, to pursue her NASCAR career. She’s that serious. Far as we’re concerned, this young, new driver has a standing invitation to the Hot Rod BBQ. The door’s always open, Toni. Just bring along a couple extra bags of pita chips – we’re still getting used to those vegan hot links...
That's the question Ray put to you and our experts. Plus: Fix It or Flip It: Car expert Matthew Davidson tells you how much your car is worth and gives advise on what you should buy next. Motoring journalist Damien Reid tells Ray about the first Arab female NASCAR driver. A study in the US says a fifth of EV owners go back to petrol-powered cars. Salman Hussain of EV Lab tells us why. And finally, Emirati Huda Al Matroushi breaks gender stereotypes with her car repair business in Sharjah. She even got a very special phone call. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Toni Breidinger has and continues to be a trailblazer in motorsports. Being the first female Arab-American in NASCAR and winningest female in USAC history, Breidinger doesn’t pay too much attention to her historic achievements, but rather is focused on the here and now of making it in NASCAR. She joins Davey this week (14:45) to discuss her upbringing in California and getting started go-karting with her twin sister and father. She also recalls how breaking her arm in a crash at a young age didn’t deter her from pursuing her passion. Breidinger details what being the first female Arab-American driver means to her personally, and why she was surprised that nobody came before her. She also explains how being a woman in racing doesn’t occupy her mind as much as it does others as well as her catchphrase: “the car doesn’t know gender.” Hear the coincidental story of how she got the opportunity with Young’s Motorsports, and why she didn’t expect to be moving up the ranks this quickly. She dives into her racing career on pavement (and a little dirt), the learning process she’s going through and how the pandemic provided her unforeseen opportunities on track. Plus, Breidinger’s appearances on The TODAY Show, The Ellen Show and others have introduced her to a national audience. Hear how Breidinger has navigated being in the national spotlight recently, how she deals with haters thinking she’s not truly a racer. How does she utilize social media (where she has over a combined 1 million followers) to her benefit? She explains, along with her experiences modeling and that leading to sponsorship on track, her struggles while moving to Charlotte and her pet bunny named Fetty Hop. Davey recaps Alex Bowman’s win at Richmond and questions what’s happened to the Virginia short track in recent years. He also briefly previews Talladega and Papa Segal gives an ode to a 93-year-old who stays young behind the wheel.
RJ and TJM discuss what NASCAR could do with a Cup Series licensing system, as well as preview the big race weekend at Talladega. Also, hear a short bonus interview with Toni Breidinger near the end of the show.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

At just 21 years old, Toni Breidinger is already breaking records, becoming the first Arab-American woman to compete at NASCAR's Daytona International Speedway. In this week's episode of Twenty & Trying, we sat down with Toni to talk about what it means to be so accomplished at such a young age, being a woman in a predominately male-driven sport (pun not intended), and what's next for the young racecar driver.
