In his twenties, before he became a nationally-renowned dog trainer, Matt Beisner was a jobless, self-loathing alcoholic with a rap sheet. And he was scared of dogs. When he went to the shelter one day and unexpectedly adopted a Jindo pup with a rap sheet of his own, Matt's life began to change. As Matt got clean and sober, he and Renge rode out some heartbreaking lows and euphoric highs, and Renge taught Matt how to slow down, live with kindness, and listen to what a dog's trying to say. Because dogs will tell us everything we need to know about life, if we just pay attention.

PART TWO of this powerful episode: After a near-death experience, Matt Beisner's pup Renge helped him built a new life as Matt learned--in a very public way--what it means to make mistakes and take responsibility for their consequences. Even as the world tried to pull Matt back down into a dark place, Renge continued to give Matt boundless unconditional love, until Matt was able to once again see the beauty that surrounded him. My favorite part of being in New York are all the interesting, creative, talented people I serendipitously meet. Some of them, like today's guest Dr. Emily I know immediately after meeting them that I've made a life friend. Not only are we both from Michigan, Emily and I connected right off the bat over a million similar interests, mutual friends, and ideas for collaborations. Her expertise of the human body and her feminine approach to chiropractic are unmatched. She's a chiropractor and founder of Midtown Manhattan's Urban Wellness Clinic, where sure curates a team of expert healers from a personal trainer (shout out Trainer Matt who is the best!), to an acupuncturist, to a masseuse. It was her dream to built this clinic in New York and we get into the goal setting and visioning of how she made that dream reality. We discuss ways fitness can be harmful to the body, reprogramming bad body patterns, the body working holistically, the importance of breathing and belly breathing, “tech neck”, bio hacks for everything from walking, sitting, and looking at our devices. She's not only highly skilled, she's warm, empathetic, and articulate. The story of how she met her husband is an auditory romantic comedy. You'll love her, I sure do. Enjoy this episode and follow closely everything Dr. Emily & her clinic do.
