Today hosts Dave Schramm and Liz Hale discuss the intersection of positive psychology and Gottman research on marriage with Dr. Vagdevi Meunier. Dr. Meunier, a licensed psychologist and clinical assistant professor, shares insights on how couples can increase positivity in their relationships, explains the PERMA model from positive psychology, and discusses why 85% of couples report not having fun in their marriage anymore. Learn practical tips for fostering positivity, engagement, and connection in your relationship, and discover the importance of buffering your relationship from external stress.  #marriageadvice #marriageandfamilytherapist #marriage #marriagecounselling About: Dr. Vagdevi Meunier (“Dr. V”) is a licensed clinical psychologist & Certified Master Gottman Therapist with over 30 years of experience in counseling, education & clinical consultation. Since 2000, she has held a Clinical Assistant Professorship at The University of Texas in Austin & previously taught as a professor at St. Edwards University for over 10 years. Dr. Meunier specializes in relationship therapy, specifically with couples & families. She has an extensive history & passion for multicultural psychology, especially eastern influences on psychological practice & cross-cultural relationship research. As a Master Gottman Couples therapist & Professional Trainer for The Gottman Institute since 2006, Dr. Vagdevi Meunier leads “The Art and Science of Love” couples workshops locally in Austin, throughout the United States, as well as, Internationally. Dr. V has presented professionally in the US, Canada & India & incorporates mindfulness, neurobiology & positive psychology into her psychoeducational lectures. Dr. V published a chapter on Positive Couple Relationships from evidence based research around the world and has written several articles on the Gottman method of couples therapy. Dr. Vagdevi Meunier is the founder & Executive Director of The Center for Relationships. She is the Advisor to all TCFR doctoral level trainees & therapist team members. Her mission behind TCFR is to promote and provide a community counseling, training & outreach center that specializes in helping relationships to flourish based on leading best practices and relationship science. The Counseling services & educational programs at TCFR include couples intensives, retreats, groups & community forums to support healthy relationships, conflict management & trust recovery. Insights: Vagdevi: "It doesn't take a lot of time to make a difference, to increase positivity in your relationship, whether you're separated from your partner or in the same room with them. You can harness technology or you can just practice that engagement and positive emotions when you're face to face. And a little bit goes a long way. And our motto in Gottman work is "small things often." Dave: Couples can manage external stress effectively by working together as a team, preventing it from affecting their relationship. Despite coming home stressed, it's crucial not to take it out on each other. Although challenging, it's possible to remain kind even when frustrated or angry, highlighting the importance of choosing kindness in maintaining a strong relationship. Liz: I love the statement, "Darling, I'm hurting. Will you help me?" That was quite beautiful instead of the attack. It's just like, and having really that good feeling between us. Right? Like, I know you love me and I love you. Trust. That's trust, I believe. In this episode, you'll meet Jay McLaughlin, a Million Dollar winner and Professional Trainer in the National Reined Cow Horse Association. In 2020 he was Reserve Champion in the World's Greatest Horseman competition. I caught up with Jay at the Southwest Reined Cow Horse Pre-Futurity show in Fort Worth this past summer. Jay not only excels in the Open class, but he also enjoys teaching Nonpros and Youth – and they excel, too! I know you'll love hearing his story and what he emphasizes in training horses and coaching his people. He has a simple (as he says “KISS,” keep it simple stupid) but clear philosophy about the way he runs his program. Jay also loves the cutting horse part of reined horse competitions, so being a cutter myself that comment was a big hit with me. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did. I truly admire Jay. Guest Info Jay McLaughlin Jay McLaughlin was born in 1974, into a Missouri family where horses were a primary focus. McLaughlin's father, Mike, was a versatile professional horse trainer who prepared Quarter Horses for many disciplines, including reining, pleasure, halter, western riding, horsemanship, trail, barrels, poles, and more. His mother, Julann, built a successful 4-H program from the ground up and operated it for decades. McLaughlin credits her for instilling his strong foundation as a rider and competitor. McLaughlin's competitive nature served him well as he grew up and followed in his father's footsteps, starting his professional horse training career at age 18. His initial focus on reining soon turned to the adrenalin-fueled challenge of the reined cow horse. According to NRCHA records, McLaughlin earned his first reined cow horse paycheck in 1999. Just five years later, in 2004, he made his debut at the Snaffle Bit Futurity, enjoying the success that few first-timers can claim, qualifying for the Open and Intermediate Open Futurity Finals on SS Rosa (Sailing Smart x Snowmans Rose x Snowman Doc), owned by Julie Gibbons. He credits his wife, Wendy, for her stalwart support during his million-dollar journey, with its inevitable ups and downs. Besides his status as an NRCHA Million Dollar Rider, McLaughlin's resume also includes 12 NRCHA and American Quarter Horse Association World Championships. He was the 2013 NRCHA Futurity Open Reserve Champion and the 2015 NRCHA Stakes Open Champion aboard Aaron Ranch's Blind Sided (Peptoboonsmal x Lil Miss Shiney Chex x Shining Spark), and he has claimed numerous other championships, finals berths, and top placings in reined cow horse and reining. McLaughlin already has his sights set on becoming an NRCHA 2 Million Dollar Rider and predicts the best is yet to come. “I'm not done, by any means. I'm not going to retire and say, ‘I've won what I need to win,'” he said. “At the end of this story, I want you to put, ‘stay tuned,' because there are going to be some more great horses, I'm telling you. It's a fun ride!”

On today’s episode of Vital Metabolic, hosts James Wheeler and John Parker speak with Clifton Harski, trainer and Director of Education for the Pain-Free Performance Specialist Certification. Hear Cliff share his tips to help new trainers get started and build their businesses, the pros and cons of online training, and whether you should spend time on Instagram marketing.   Episode Highlights:  1:10 - Clifton Harski is the Director of Education for the Pain-Free Performance Specialist certification with previous Vital Metabolic guest John Rusin. 3:29 - Cliff’s business has been going well; he’s been working on the curriculum for the PPSC full-time and training their presenters to do the presentations. 4:16 - The business Cliff was previously a part owner of prior to COVID had to close. 7:35 - If Cliff was a new trainer starting right now, he would split his time between personal training and group fitness. 9:07 - In group training, you need to be able to fix someone’s form and come up with a solution very quickly, and that experience can be really helpful in one-on-one training. It also allows you to see many more and a wider range of people. 11:05 - You can also use the group setting to get to know people and develop them into higher paying 1-on-1 clients. 12:55 - A lot of marketing wisdom will tell you to hyper-specialize, but it’s better for a trainer to have range and be more general in your approach until opportunities to focus more present itself. 16:55 - You need to define what an “online trainer” means to you and your business; do you provide a program as a workout provider, or are you actually actively training people, providing feedback and coaching? 18:40 - Clifton did online training in 2012-2013, and started every client on the same 4 week program where the workouts were done live so he could see how the person moved before providing coaching and moving into the next phase of the training. 23:00 - Whether you’re doing online coaching, 1-on-1, small group, or large group training, you need to have a realistic expectation of deliverables. 25:35 - There are some Facebook groups that do reviews of the potentially shady social marketers claiming they can grow your following. 28:30 - People are so grateful for follow-up after a session. 30:10 - Go experience other facilities and other trainers and see how they do things, so you can generate ideas of what would be useful to apply to your own business. 32:13 - Set the expectation with your clients that you will be punctual, so you expect them to be too. 33:15 - Meet your client where they’re at in terms of communication; a millennial may prefer to text, but a client in their 70s may only want to use phone calls. 34:15 - Cliff predicts that after COVID, there is going to be a consolidation of who’s offering what; whatever businesses survive this are going to end up thriving. 35:20 - Convenience is the biggest factor in getting clients. 36:20 - Technology is catching up to allow virtual training to become so customized that it will begin to rival in-person training. 40:15 - Some trainers are even offering at-home gym designs, helping people build their own gym space. 41:05 - Instagram trainers give potential clients a false expectation. 42:00 - A lot of people who seem successful on Instagram actually aren’t, because they may have a lot of followers but they have very low engagement. 44:10 - Social media is saturated with trainers, and it’s likely time to start exploring other business models like a referral system. 46:00 - Decide if investing in Instagram is actually worthwhile to your business or if it is just going to feed your ego. 46:35 - Two examples of good Instagram use are John [last name?] and Kyle Dobbs because they both provide actionable, educational content. 48:23 - Think about the aspects of social media that you like, and start there with your content. 50:55 - PPSC is hoping to dominate the in-person education space. 51:35 - In 2021, they have an aggressive schedule of 10 events per month.   3 Key Points: New trainers should gain the broad experience of group fitness classes so that they can see a large volume of people. Don’t implicitly trust shiny Instagram business coaches and marketers; instead, experience other facilities and trainers firsthand to see what ideas it gives you. Drive your Instagram strategy from what you enjoy about social media.   Tweetable Quotes:  “If you are only doing 1-on-1s, that can be extraordinarily tiring. You’ve got to be the energy guy that brings them up the entire time, whereas with group, oftentimes the group can give you energy as the instructor and you feed off of it.” –Clifton Harski “The benefit for a lot of people with online training is that it’s lower cost for consumers. They pay less for it. But if you’re doing true coaching, it might cost you more of your time, which as a trainer means we should be charging even more.” –Clifton Harski “The #1 determiner of if someone signs up for you is convenience.” –Clifton Harski “Find the positives with the social media so that you can be consistent in your messaging, that you can help more people and the people will come to you.” –John Parker   Resources Mentioned:  James: Facebook Instagram Twitter John: Facebook Instagram Twitter Email: info@vitalmetabolic.com  Website: www.vitalmetabolic.com  Pain-Free Performance Specialist Certification: Website Clifton Harski: Website Facebook Instagram Twitter  John Rusin: Instagram Kyle Dobbs: Instagram

Specifically, those ingrained beliefs that though they may not hold water when challenged continue to dominate our lives by domination our thoughts which turns into actions or “inaction” and that bleeds into accomplishments or lack of and that turns into another loop. I hope you pull a nugget from it that helps your reach the goals you’ve been visioning. Follow Hayden on Instagram:

We are here to help your life and business journey Soul Sister. Real stories from real women for real women, to empower, inspire, share and help what you need to help you achieve your dreams.   In this week's episode: ARE YOU A GYM FREAK? There was a time when I used to get up early in the morning, 6 am most days, at least from Monday to Saturday so I wouldn’t miss my favorite classes at the gym… If I fell asleep, even for 5 minutes, I’d miss my chance, they would be all filled up. So every day, 6 am up and ready to face the world! I loved it! I would start by doing some spin or cardio and then join a hardcore class, get all pumped up and then finish with a yoga or pilates class to get all my streches done. Ever since the quarantine started I have been trying to keep up with the same routine from home. It’s not always as intense or long as what I’m used to but I do it because I enjoy it.... And if you’re anything as a gym freak as I am, then you’ll be able to relate. Working out from home helped me discover a world of online personal trainers with trainings as effective and hardcore as the ones I liked and it got me thinking on how, as humans, we can adapt to anything when necessary.   In this week’s episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Helen Harper, a Martial Arts Coach and Professional Fighter. The day I met Helen to record our podcast, she had just finished her training in her back garden, soon after having an amazing session with one of her clients. Helen found working online more enjoyable than working at a gym or studio, and to her surprise, so did her clients. For some people it can be daunting to go to the gym, especially if they are new to fitness and health altogether; so by doing a personal 1-1 class with Helen, they would feel more inclined to open up and share their struggles and what they need help with most. We also talked about how easy it was for her to transition her business online and how much she loved it to. She is now able to work at her own pace, choosing her schedule and most importantly, her clients, making it the business of her dreams.   Here's more about Helen and where you can find her: Helen Harper is a professional mixed martial arts coach and fighter. Currently residing in England, she has travelled the world, fighting coaching and competing. Her highlights have come from The Ultimate Fighter (season 23) as well as the promotions Bellator MMA and Brave Combat Federation. Helen currently owns and operates a martial arts and mindset coaching company called HHH Self Defence - www.hhhselfdefence.com     I am your host, Maria C. Krause. Clifford Starks is an athlete and a Professional Trainer of the mind, body, and spirit. He is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Middleweight division for the World Series of Fighting. A professional competitor since 2009, he formerly competed for the UFC, Bellator, and Shark Fights. He made his professional MMA debut in 2009 and fought primarily for the Rage in the Cage promotion in Arizona. He quickly amassed an undefeated record of 7-0 during the first two years of his career before joining the UFC.   In this episode of the Purpose Chasers Podcast, Clifford Starks shares his powerful story of how he has mastered the keys to mindset, determination, and discipline.   Clifford went from engaging in some light martial arts for 1 year later getting a call to fight in the UFC. He shares about the hard work and dedication it took to make his vision a reality, and how anyone can do the same.   His journey started with difficulties that he used as opportunities to grow from later in life. The realization of learning to control his own life appeared at the age of 6-years-old. His step-father taught him that ‘life is about action’, and must take responsibility in his hand, whether it’s a good, bad, or indifferent.   As a child, he didn’t fit in due to the color of his skin. But Clifford strived to work hard and make things impossible possible. He likes it when people tell him he can’t things as it allows him another opportunity to disprove his mind and others.  He is an optimist and believed that the opportunities are in the obstacles. “I can do better, I can always do more.” -Clifford Starks Follow Clifford Starks:   Website: https://cliffordstarks.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRh0Ik1vEH9Idu-AeuIDvBQ/featured?view_as=subscriber Email: info@cliffordstarks.com Twitter: @cliffordstarks1 Instagram: @cliffordstarks1 Facebook: @cliffordstarks4 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/clifford-starks-43095514/     Purpose Chasers Podcast is designed to provide insights into personal development, spirituality, recovery, entrepreneurship and how to create an unstoppable mindset to empower individuals to break free from mediocrity and live extraordinarily.   Check out more information:https://markcrandall.net   Follow Mark Crandall: Facebook:@purposechaserspodcast Instagram:@purposechasers Linked In:@MarkCrandall

Based on the working title of her forthcoming book, Who's Stopping You? – How Your Hidden Inner Selves Hijack Happiness and Sabotage Success – and How to Transform Them into Powerful Allies, in this conversation Bridgit focuses on those of us who work hard toward a goal and find ourselves inexplicitly stuck with the finish line in sight – what she likes to refer to as the final one-eighth of our journey. The first seven-eighths include everything that brought us to this moment of stuckness. Examples of the first seven-eighths include discovering your passion but not knowing how to manifest it in the world; achieving, but not being able to maintain physical or emotional health; and saying goodbye, but being unsure of what to say hello to. Tune into Bridgit's passionate expertise on our relationships with our hidden inner selves! Bio: Bridgit  Dengel Gaspard is the founder of the New York City Inner Voice Dialogue Center and a Senior Practitioner and Professional Trainer of Voice Dialogue. She has presented to the Omega Institute, New York Open Center, NYU Behavioral Health Center, the NASW's ‘Addiction Institute' as well as ‘Social Work and the City: Building A Progressive Agenda and Striving for A Better Life for All New Yorkers,' Columbia University School of Social Work Alumni Association and the NYC Chapter of the International Coach Federation. Bridgit has published numerous articles and specializes in creativity blocks and life transitions, in particular moving to the next level of success. Toward that end she is expanding her chapter in The Voice Dialogue Anthology into a book that focuses on people who work hard toward a goal and find themselves inexplicably (and intransigently) stuck in sight of the finish line. It's currently titled, Who's Stopping You? How Your Hidden Inner Selves Hijack Happiness and Sabotage Success—and How to Transform Them into Powerful Allies.
