Nike reste le premier équipementier sportif mondial, mais la marque américaine traverse une période difficile. Baisse du chiffre d'affaires, chute de l'action, perte de parts de marché en Chine et montée en puissance de nouveaux concurrents, le géant de la basket doit désormais retrouver l'innovation et la désirabilité qui ont fait son succès. C'est une marque et un logo que l'on connaît toutes et tous : Nike et sa célèbre virgule. Et si Nike est toujours le premier équipementier sportif mondial, son image est sérieusement écornée. Kylian Mbappé a annoncé le 18 septembre qu'il mettait fin à sa collaboration avec l'entreprise. Cette semaine, Nike a également perdu sa place au sein de l'indice S&P 100, qui regroupe les 100 plus grandes capitalisations boursières américaines. Un symbole supplémentaire du déclassement du géant américain. Pourtant, il y a encore trois ans, l'entreprise réalisait un chiffre d'affaires record : 51,4 milliards de dollars sur l'exercice 2023-2024. Mais aujourd'hui, il est inférieur de près de cinq milliards de dollars. Et autre symbole de ce déclassement : l'action Nike a perdu près de 80% de sa valeur en cinq ans. Si le géant mondial de la basket connaît une période difficile, c'est notamment en raison de différentes erreurs stratégiques. D'abord, le groupe a préféré s'appuyer sur ses modèles iconiques en les remettant au goût du jour, comme les Air Force 1 ou les Dunks, au détriment de la recherche et de l'innovation purement sportive. Or, le marché a changé. Les consommateurs se sont lassés des grandes marques de sport généralistes et se sont tournés vers de nouveaux acteurs proposant des produits plus spécialisés. Surtout, Nike a voulu privilégier la vente directe sur son propre site internet et dans ses boutiques officielles. L'objectif était de mieux contrôler sa relation avec les consommateurs et de vendre directement ses produits. Mais en réduisant ses relations avec bon nombre de distributeurs indépendants, la marque a aussi libéré un espace considérable dans les rayons des magasins multimarques. Et cette place a été récupérée par les concurrents. On, Hoka, Salomon : les nouveaux concurrents de Nike De nouvelles marques ont ainsi pu s'installer dans les rayons, comme la marque suisse On, mais aussi Hoka, Salomon ou Asics. Ces entreprises ont attaqué Nike sur des marchés précis : le running, la randonnée, le trail ou encore le tennis, alors que Nike proposait une immense gamme destinée à tout le monde. Les nouveaux acteurs, eux, sont arrivés avec des produits très spécialisés, très reconnaissables et une identité forte sur chaque sport. Pendant longtemps, Nike avait pourtant les têtes d'affiche et les légendes nécessaires pour asseoir la puissance de sa marque. Porter une Nike, c'était aussi acheter une image. Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo ou encore Kylian Mbappé ont contribué à faire de la marque un phénomène culturel. Pendant des décennies, le groupe disposait ainsi de trois avantages en même temps : de très bons produits, les meilleurs athlètes et une puissance culturelle exceptionnelle. Le dossier souligne que cette domination, longtemps partagée essentiellement avec Adidas et Puma, est aujourd'hui remise en cause par de nouveaux acteurs. Et les clients, eux, ont été sensibles aux arguments de ces nouvelles marques. La Chine est une parfaite illustration de cette perte de puissance. Pendant des années, le pays a constitué l'un des grands moteurs de croissance de Nike, derrière les États-Unis. Mais les ventes y ont reculé de 30% depuis 2021, tombant à leur niveau le plus bas depuis huit ans. Nike doit en outre affronter des marques chinoises comme Anta et Li-Ning, qui bénéficient d'une meilleure connaissance du marché local. Nike tente de retrouver la recette de son succès À cela s'ajoute un autre problème : Nike fabrique l'essentiel de ses produits en Asie, notamment au Vietnam, en Chine, en Indonésie ou au Cambodge. Ces pays sont confrontés à des droits de douane américains sur les importations. Ces surtaxes ont pesé sur les coûts et les marges de l'entreprise. Alors relativisons tout de même, Nike reste un géant mondial. L'entreprise emploie près de 78 000 personnes et conserve une puissance considérable. Et une partie de sa stratégie est justement en train d'être corrigée. Depuis l'arrivée d'Elliott Hill à la direction de Nike fin 2024, le groupe cherche notamment à renouer avec les distributeurs et à remettre les produits sportifs au cœur de sa stratégie. Le plan de redressement baptisé « Win Now » vise notamment la course à pied et le basketball, avec l'objectif de relancer les ventes et de stabiliser les parts de marché. Le défi est donc considérable : Nike doit retrouver de l'innovation, reconquérir des consommateurs et surtout recréer cette puissance culturelle qui lui permettait autrefois d'imposer les tendances. Car le véritable problème de Nike n'est peut-être finalement pas seulement de vendre moins de chaussures. C'est d'avoir perdu une partie de cette capacité à faire rêver. La fameuse virgule n'est donc pas près de disparaître. Mais le géant américain doit désormais tout faire pour qu'elle ne se transforme pas en point final.  Kimberly Lining remembers calling the information number on a flyer for a missing Indigenous woman and learning that the photo on the flyer didn’t even belong to the missing woman. The frustration born in that moment led Lining to launch the MMIW Search and Hope Alliance, a group of volunteers she mobilizes to help look for missing Indigenous women and girls. Lining partners with the Oregon State Police, families, tribes and others to help get the word out on social media and in-person searches. We talk to Lining about her work.

This weekend Cam Marston watched 130 girls squeal with joy on Auburn's quad. Here's why his mind went straight to the ones who didn't get the call. ----- We sure love cruelty, don't we? As refined and as smart and as elevated as we claim to be, we love us some cruelty. We line up to dish it out and, strangely, we line up to potentially take it. Saturday afternoon I watched the culmination of Auburn's bid day. My favorite youngest daughter got a bid. I watched as she ran from Neville Arena to the quad where she and her 130 some odd new best friends whom she had never met before squealed. Some squealed in delight; their dream had come true. Some squealed with resignation. They didn't get what they had hoped for, but they had to squeal – it's what the moment required. And as I watched, my mind went to the ones that got no bid at all. Per Auburn historical trends, roughly ten percent had their phone ring and a voice on the other side essentially said, "I'm sorry. No one wants you." I suspect it's no different at other campuses, especially the SEC schools who take such pride in their Greek life. But think about these young girls, eighteen or nineteen years old, traveling off to college, many from places far away, to offer themselves up to this savage system of ranking, choosing, selecting and rejecting each other. When word got out that my favorite youngest daughter got a bid, my wife's phone buzzed with congratulations. But some shared their stories of rejection that has never healed over thirty years. Some said they get a knot in their stomach this time every year as they relive that call. Some left Auburn and have never returned. What is it about mankind that makes us crave ranking others? Crave selecting others? And, most brutally, crave excluding others? We want to see where we stand, who we're among, who is above and, most importantly, who is below. We take special interest at who is below. Those not worthy. Those down the list. I'm no different. I wish I were, but I'm no different. Not long ago a big fitness trend were events called Spartan races. People would pay money to run long distances, climb vertical walls, crawl through freezing mud, do umpteen pushups, climb ropes, and other difficult, painful, and potentially unhappy things. Some finished strong and celebrated at the end, some limped to the finish, and others well... Sorority rush is the same. These girls voluntarily throw themselves into this cruel system. Some make it through gloriously. Their squeals were genuine. Some limp through and accept a ribbon. Others get word that no one wants them. And my heart breaks for them. Next year, new girls will line up to do it again, just like in countless years past. They'll line up to be judged, determined worthy, picked, or cast aside. And again they year after that. And again the year after that. An insatiable desire to hopefully be picked. Parents and family will cheer the winners. We'll ignore the losers. Thinking about them makes us feel bad. And they'll keep coming. It's brutal and cruel and we just can't get enough of it. I'm Cam Marston, just trying to Keep It Real.

Felt he "failed" after never making a national team, which later fueled his curiosity about how better runners train. How Sweat Elite started: After a failed Strava-like app, Matt launched a site interviewing pros. He later began filming elite workouts (inspired by old FloTrack videos), but it lost money due to last-minute travel costs and limited YouTube revenue. He recouped losses by documenting his own marathon builds. Content landscape: Athletes now prefer posting their own journeys, making third-party workout videos harder. Influencers-as-coaches is a growing issue; both agree formal qualifications aren't required (many great coaches never had them), but buyers should do due diligence. Bad influencer coaches can still introduce people to the sport who later seek better help. Creators they follow: Truett Haynes (humor + ambitious Olympic Trials goal despite current times being far off; recently hired Rory Linkletter). Also Eric Floberg (cinematography) and Rory Linkletter (authenticity, Canadian marathon record pursuit). Weight/body composition debate: Matt accidentally got very lean (70 kg) for a 2:20 marathon, then gained 3–4 kg and plateaued at 2:23–2:24. After noticing he was much larger than the Japanese runners he raced with, he used carb-cycling (high carbs around key sessions, deficit on easy days) to drop back to ~69 kg and ran 2:18–2:19. He has since lost another ~12 kg. He stresses this is highly individual and risky. Personality matters: people with OCD/obsessive tendencies are more likely to develop RED-S or eating disorders. He now studies nutrition to give safer guidance. Examples cited: Josh Kerr's long-term leaning-out, George Cush dropping weight before winning Comrades, Ryan Hall hitting a point where further loss hurt performance. Both emphasize timing (fuel hard sessions, restrict on recovery days), not living in a perpetual deficit, and resetting after races. Chinese super shoes: Matt recently lab-tested 12 models from Anta, Li-Ning, 361°, Xtep, Dynafish, etc. Many perform comparably to Western shoes at half the price and often last longer. Notable mentions: Li-Ning Dragon Flight (79 g, technically illegal but extremely fast; a legal version is coming), Anta C10 (very similar to Puma Fast-R), Dynafish trainer (versatile, durable, sub-200 g). Barriers in the U.S.: high tariffs, limited specialty-store distribution, and brands currently focused on the Chinese market. Anta and Li-Ning are expanding globally. In this episode, we tackle some of the most common and challenging questions surrounding the uterine lining and embryo transfer. Dr. Amy Harris joins us to discuss what she would do for a patient with fluid in the endometrial cavity, including possible causes, recommended evaluation, and treatment options. We review why fluid often resolves after progesterone exposure, when aspiration before embryo transfer may be considered, and how different stimulation protocols can impact outcomes. We discuss recurrent implantation failure after the transfer of multiple euploid embryos in the setting of a thin endometrium. We discuss potential causes of a thinning uterine lining, including hormonal abnormalities, hypothalamic amenorrhea, and Asherman syndrome. Strategies such as changing endometrial preparation protocols, reassessing thyroid and prolactin levels, and allowing the uterus time to recover without medication exposure. We review treatment options for uterine scar tissue and discuss whether programmed or modified natural frozen embryo transfer cycles may offer advantages in specific situations. Finally, we address the question of transferring two embryos at once after a prior cesarean delivery. We discuss the risks of twins and higher-order multiple pregnancies, including prematurity, neonatal intensive care admissions, pregnancy complications, and the emotional and financial impact on families. We also explore whether vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) may be an option for some patients planning future pregnancies. Can fluid in the uterus prevent embryo implantation? What causes a thin endometrial lining? How is Asherman syndrome treated? Should patients choose a programmed or modified natural transfer cycle? Is transferring two embryos ever worth the risk?
