Can Weight Watchers shape up in the GLP-1 era?

At one point in time not too long ago, Weight Watchers was the legacy name in weight loss treatment. Armed with an endorsement from board member Oprah Winfrey, everything was turning up Weight Watchers – until it wasn't.. Usurped by powerful weight loss drugs manufactured by Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk – along with ascendant telehealth firms like Ro, Hims & Hers, and Noom – Weight Watchers went into significant decline.  Ultimately, even Oprah left the company and donated her shares.  In May 2025, Weight Watchers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in order to eliminate around $1.5 billion in debt. It emerged from bankruptcy in July and now has its sights set on repositioning itself as a key player in the GLP-1 age. But what is Weight Watchers' function in 2026?  This week, managing editor Jack O'Brien is joined by Scott Honken, PharmD, chief commercial officer at Weight Watchers, for an update on the company's current standing in the GLP-1 landscape, where it's been and where it's going. In lieu of our Trends segment, we have some audio takeouts from Jack's time at SXSW, featuring leaders from Amgen, Marina Maher Communications and Compass Pathways. Spring cleaning is not just for closets. It is for your paperwork. In this episode, I walk you through a Spring 2026 paperwork shape up and show you exactly what to fix, what to update, and what to stop ignoring. This is not about panic. It is about systems. When your documentation is clean and current, compliance becomes steady instead of stressful. We start with the core clinical paperwork every counselor should review. Informed consent. Practice policies. Release of information. HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. Then we move into the newer pressure points, including House Bill 4224 website posting requirements and the No Surprises Act Good Faith Estimate.I also address the pieces that are not always spelled out clearly in the rules but still matter, like social media policies, AI consent, and supervision disclosures. Technology moves fast. Legislation moves differently. Your paperwork has to account for both. This conversation is about transparency. Clients deserve to understand what they are agreeing to. And you deserve documentation that protects your license and reflects the way you actually practice. In this episode, we cover:What must be included in your informed consent and client file under Texas rulesHow to comply with House Bill 4224 website and facility posting requirementsHow to implement the No Surprises Act Good Faith Estimate clearly and correctlyWhy technology, AI use, and Releases of Information require explicit, structured consentIf you have been telling yourself you will update your paperwork “when things slow down,” hear this clearly: things rarely slow down on their own. Compliance is not about fear. It is about alignment. When your forms match your practice and your practice matches the rules, you reduce risk and increase clarity.Want to learn more? Check out this month's free resource from Kate Walker Training. If this episode raised questions about documentation, supervision requirements, or how to build systems that support ethical growth, you do not have to figure that out alone. Those are the exact conversations we have inside the Step It Up Membership, where we walk through the rules, clean up the forms, and build practices that are sustainable, compliant, and steady.Get your step by step guide to private practice. Because you are too important to lose to not knowing the rules, going broke, burning out, and giving up. #counselorsdontquit.

Sebastian explains why Scrum stopped working as the team grew, what changed after adopting Shape Up, and how specialization—if left unchecked—can quietly turn into a bottleneck for growing teams. They also discuss what remote-first organizations need to get right as they scale, from decision-making and trust to execution at speed. The episode closes with a candid look at how AI is already changing day-to-day engineering work—and why scaling engineering is ultimately less about hiring faster and more about designing better systems.

Klaus Breyer from Edding has some thoughts on why this keeps happening—and what actually works instead. Klaus's path to leading product and technology at Germany's most famous pen company wasn't exactly traditional. Before Edding, he spent years managing 40-person World of Warcraft raids (yes, really) and running startups. Now he's applying those lessons to build software teams that actually solve problems instead of just completing tasks. The conversation digs into Shape Up methodology, but more importantly, Klaus explains the mindset changes needed to stop treating software development like an assembly line. His team at Edding has built some pretty cool stuff too—like a B2B driver license verification system using invisible conductive ink that smartphones can read. What you'll learn: • Why "give me a ticket" thinking kills collaboration (even in tiny teams) • How 6-week cycles help teams focus on one problem without distractions • The art of separating problems from solutions before jumping into code • Why late-stage compromises usually mean your team isn't really collaborating • When senior teams can ditch tickets entirely and just... work • Klaus's templates for getting everyone aligned on what problems are worth solving

Ryan Singer is one of the earliest employees and the former Head of Strategy at 37signals (the makers of Basecamp), where he spent nearly two decades refining a product development approach that helped the company build super-successful products with small teams. Based on these lessons, he wrote "Shape Up: Stop Running in Circles and Ship Work that Matters," and Ryan now works with companies of all sizes to them them escape the cycle of endless sprints, missed deadlines, and dragging projects. What you'll learn:1. Why traditional Agile and Scrum methods often lead teams into endless cycles of work without meaningful shipping milestones.2. The “appetite-driven” approach to product development where teams set fixed timeboxes (usually six weeks maximum) and vary the scope instead of expanding timelines.3. The exact process for running effective “shaping” sessions that collaboratively define projects before committing resources.4. Why most teams struggle with too little detail in their planning, not too much.5. Why a 30-to-50-person team size is the critical breaking point when growing startups need to adopt more structured processes.6. Practical techniques for bridging the engineering-design divide by bringing technical and product perspectives together earlier in the process.7. The powerful “breadboarding” and “fat marker sketching” techniques that help teams align on solutions without getting lost in high-fidelity details.8. The clear warning signs that your current development process is failing before it's too late to change course.9. Proven strategies to implement Shape Up methods, whether you're working in a startup or enterprise environment.10. A step-by-step approach to transitioning from Scrum to Shape Up by piloting the methodology with a single team before broader implementation.11. Why the PM role shifts upstream in Shape Up, focusing more on problem definition than project management.12.
