When a woman's body was found in a field, the police found a potential piece of evidence in the grass. But they decided to hold that information back, leading some to wonder if that is what stalled the investigation. If you have any information, call the Burton Police Department at (810) 742-2542 or the Crimestoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL. This case is unsolved. June 20, 2009. Bowen Island, British Columbia. While attending a house party, 17-year old Jodi Henrickson leaves during the early morning hours with her estranged 20-year old boyfriend, Gavin Arnott. Numerous witnesses report seeing them walking down the road together and Gavin claims that after they got into an argument, he and Jodi went their separate ways before she vanished without a trace. Since Gavin had a history of violence against Jodi and a no-contact order at that time, he becomes a person of interest in her disappearance, but there is no evidence to implicate him and Jodi is never found. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a missing persons case from Canada which has gone unsolved for nearly 16 years. August 22, 2011. Chilliwack, British Columbia. After not hearing from him for three days, the parents of 38-year old Corey Scherbey enter his residence and discover his body in a kneeling position in front of his couch and there is a large pool of fluids on the floor. The police conclude that Corey died of an accidental drug overdose and started decomposing before he was found. However, since Corey's father had seen an unidentified woman in his house with him prior to his death and there is other suspicious evidence pointing towards foul play – including an anonymous cryptic letter - the Scherbeys believe that Corey was killed by an outside party. In 2020, a coroner's inquest is held in which a jury agrees with the original ruling that Corey's death was accidental, but his family continues to maintain he was murdered. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we travel back to our home country of Canada to explore a suspicious death which is still surrounded by unanswered questions. October 11, 1991. Bolney, England. The dismembered torso of a male homicide victim which has been rolled up in some carpet is discovered in a wooded area next to a bridle path. His head and both of his hands have been removed and since the victim cannot be identified, he is buried under the name “Unknown Male”. Investigators explore a number of different leads, including a wanted German fraudster who was living in the area at the time the torso was discovered, as well as the possibility that the victim's death was a gangland killing, but the crime is never solved. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we travel back to the United Kingdom to explore the bizarre story of an unidentified decedent known only as “The Bolney Torso”. October 24, 1998. Brooklyn, New York. 28-year old Kristine Kupka, who happens to be five months' pregnant, is seen leaving her residence alongside the father of her child, Darshanand “Rudy” Persaud. Kristine never returns, but even though Rudy claims that he took her to a shopping mall and dropped her off a few blocks from her home, his story cannot be corroborated. It turns out that Rudy was married to another woman and had asked Kristine to get an abortion for fear that the revelation about her pregnancy would ruin his life. Even though a cloud of suspicion surrounds Rudy, there is no evidence to implicate him in Kristine's disappearance and no trace of her is ever found. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a missing persons case involving a pregnant woman which has gone unsolved for over 26 years. January 23, 1999. Tacoma, Washington. Two-year old Teekah Lewis accompanies her family to the New Frontier Lanes bowling alley, but while playing inside the arcade, she vanishes without a trace. It seems apparent that Teekah was the victim of a stranger abduction and there is speculation that her disappearance might be connected to a recent series of incidents in which other children from the area were preyed upon by an unidentified white male. Twenty-five years later, investigators announce they have been looking into a person of interest who seems like a compelling potential suspect, but there is no conclusive evidence to implicate him and Teekah is never found. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a heartbreaking missing children's case which has remained unsolved for over a quarter of a century. August 19, 1984. Manassas, Virginia. At around 4:15 AM, the doorbell rings at the residence of Johnny Bowman, a 31-year old trooper with the Virginia State Police. When Johnny answers the door, he is viciously attacked by an assailant who stabs him over 40 times before fleeing the scene and they leave behind a wig, glasses and hardhat which were possibly used as a disguise. Years later, investigators announce that their prime suspect is Perry Worrell, a former state trooper who happened to be one of Johnny's closest friends, and they believe the murder was committed over some sort of personal dispute. However, there is not enough evidence to make an arrest and the crime continues to be surrounded by unanswered questions. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the murder of a Virginia state trooper which has gone unsolved for over 40 years. August 1, 2007. Powder Springs, Georgia. After not being heard from for over 30 hours, 46-year old Jane Kuria and her two daughters - 19-year old Isabella and 16-year old Annabelle - are found bludgeoned to death inside their home. Jane's eight-year old son, Jeremy, and her eleven-year old nephew, P.K. Thande, are also severely beaten and left comatose, but while they wind up surviving their injuries, they are unable to provide much information about who attacked them. Since the Kurias originally hailed from Kenya and had been seeking asylum in the United States, investigators explore a number of different scenarios, including the possibility of some family friends being responsible for the murders, but the case is never solved. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a horrific and baffling crime known as the Kuria family murders. May 28, 1981. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 30-year old Christine Schultz, the ex-wife of police officer Fred Schultz, is shot to death inside her home and Fred's current spouse, Laurie “Bambi” Bembenek, is soon charged with the crime. Even though Laurie insists that she was framed by the police and the evidence against her was planted and fabricated, she is convicted of first-degree murder and receives a sentence of life imprisonment. In 1990, Laurie manages to escape from prison with the assistance of her new spouse before they are recaptured in Canada, but even though Laurie continues to maintain her innocence, she is allowed to walk free after agreeing to enter a plea of “no contest” to the crime. Was Laurie “Bambi” Bembenek actually responsible for the murder of Christine Schultz or was she the victim of an elaborate frame-up job? Last week, in Part One of our series, we chronicled the events in this case leading up to Laurie Bembenek's prison break. This week, we will share the rest of the story and provide our theories and analysis about this very controversial and sensationalistic case. June 16, 1991. Denver, Colorado. An armed gunman commits a robbery from the underground vault at the United Bank Tower on Father's Day and makes off with $197,000 in cash. While the six employees from the vault are allowed to live, the assailant fatally shoots four guards: 41-year old Phillip Mankoff, 21-year old Todd Wilson, 33-year old William McCullom Jr. and 21-year old Scott McCarthy. Two-and-a-half weeks later, a 54-year old retired police officer named James King, who once worked as a guard at United Bank, is arrested and charged with the robbery and the murders. However, since the stolen money is never recovered and no physical evidence links King to the crime, the case against him is very circumstantial and King is acquitted of all charges at trial. Was James King actually responsible for this crime or did law enforcement allow the real perpetrator to get away with it? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a controversial unsolved bank robbery/quadruple homicide which has become known as “The Father's Day Bank Massacre”. August 23, 2009. Anadarko, Oklahoma. 61-year old pastor Carol Daniels drives from her home in Oklahoma City to the Worthy Temple Christ Holy Sanctified Church in order to perform her Sunday morning duties there, but less than two hours after her arrival, Carol is murdered. She has been stripped naked, stabbed several times, and had a dissolving chemical sprayed over her body in an apparent attempt to destroy DNA evidence, but no one can figure out the motive for this crime. Nearly eight years later, investigators announce that a deceased criminal named Denise Kay Cooper and another suspect may have been responsible for Carol's murder, but even though evidence is presented to a grand jury, no charges are filed. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the unsolved murder of Reverend Carol Daniels, one of the most shocking and brutal crimes ever featured on this podcast. After spending the evening at a bar, 21-year old Kortne Stouffer returns to her apartment building alongside a male friend named Cody Pruett, but gets into a confrontation with her neighbours. The police are called to the scene and manage to de-escalate the situation, so Kortne goes into her apartment with Cody. When Cody wakes up later that morning, he claims that Kortne has vanished without explanation and she has left her car and all of her personal belongings behind. Investigators explore a number of different leads, but can find no evidence of foul play or any strong suspects, so Kortne's disappearance remains unsolved. June 25, 1983. Jefferson County, Montana. While attending a picnic with her family in Helena National Forest, four-year old Nyleen Kay Marshall goes off to play with some other children until she vanishes without a trace. Over two years later, the authorities receive a series of anonymous letters and phone calls from a man who claims to be raising Nyleen, but he is never identified and Nyleen cannot be found. Three years later, the FBI announces they are investigating the possibility that the couple were the victims of a murder-for-hire plot, but they do not name any potential suspects and no trace of Danielle, Richard or the truck are ever found. February 22, 1996. Nashville, Tennessee. 18-year old Melissa Chilton and 18-year Tiffany Campbell show up for work at Exotic Tan for Men, a tanning salon which doubles as an adult entertainment establishment. At some point during their shift, an assailant murders the two women in the salon's laundry room and they are stabbed a combined total of over 100 times. Seventeen years later, a suspect named Patrick Streater, who happens to be Tiffany's former boyfriend, is charged with both murders. However, in 2018, the authorities announce that new DNA testing has significantly weakened their case against Streater, making it impossible to take him to trial, so the murder charges are dropped. Did Patrick Streater actually kill Melissa Chilton and Tiffany Campbell or was someone else responsible? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a horrific double homicide which is often referred to as the “Tanning Bed Murders”. May 30, 1968. Mead, Colorado. After leaving a party being held at his fiancee's residence, 18-year old Leroy Drieth is killed when his car crashes into a tree. Prior to the crash, Leon had reportedly made a statement that he was going to kill himself, so his death is ruled to be a suicide. Decades later, Leroy's sister learns some incriminating information about an altercation which supposedly took place at the party between Leroy and some of Patty's family members. After Leroy's body is exhumed, an autopsy uncovers a pair of knife wounds on his neck and while his cause of death is officially changed from “suicide” to “undetermined”, there are still no conclusive answers about how Leroy was killed. October 18, 1992. Fauquier County, Virginia. While horseback riding with a friend, 37-year old Shelly Malone is supposedly thrown to the ground before her horse stomps on her chest with such force that it ruptures her heart. While Shelly's death is ruled to be an accident, her family notices suspicious behaviour from her friends, as well as alleged discrepancies in their story about how she was killed. After discovering small traces of blood inside her truck, Shelly's family becomes convinced that she was murdered and that the so-called horseback riding accident was staged, but are unable to convince the authorities to reclassify her death. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a pair of suspicious unexplained deaths in which the victim's loved ones were certain that foul play took place. If you have any information about the death of Leroy Drieth, please contact the Weld County Sheriff's Office at (970) 356-4015. January 28, 2008. Little Rock, Arkansas. 45-year old John Glasgow leaves his home and fails to show up for work at his office, so he is subsequently reported missing. The following day, John's abandoned SUV is discovered in a parking lot at Petit Jean State Park over 70 miles away, but an extensive search of the park fails to find him. Rumours circulate that John's disappearance may be linked to stress he had been experiencing over an external audit at his workplace, but no evidence is found to indicate that John did anything illegal. In 2015, John's skeletal remains are discovered at the base of a cliff only one mile from where his vehicle had been found, but a cause of death cannot be determined. Why did John Glasgow drive to Petit Jean State Park? Was his death a suicide or did foul play take place? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a missing persons case in which the recovery of the victim's remains failed to provide any conclusive answers. If you happen to have any information about this case, please contact the Conway County Sheriff's Office at (501) 354-2411. June 5, 1997. San Antonio, Texas. Police receive an anonymous phone call from a man who claims that 44-year old Monika Rizzo has been murdered by her husband, Leonard Rizzo, and that her remains can be found in her backyard. While a search of the property turns up nothing, investigators learn that Monika has not been seen for weeks and there are allegations of abuse in her marriage. One month later, a new search of the Rizzos' backyard turn up over 200 bone fragments and it is eventually determined that they belong to Monika. While Leonard is suspected of having killed Monika, the authorities do not believe there is enough evidence to file murder charges and there are a number of unanswered questions about how she died. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a gruesome murder which has gone unsolved for nearly 27 years. July 17, 1966. Hendersonville, North Carolina. A pair of close friends, 43-year old Vernon Shipman and 36-year old Charles Glass, both go missing and Vernon's abandoned car is soon found on a dirt road near his residence. Five days later, Vernon and Charles' bodies are discovered in an isolated area alongside the body of a 61-year old Asheville resident named Louise Davis Shumate and all three victims have been bludgeoned to death. Even though Louise does not appear to have any known connection to Vernon or Charles, multiple witnesses report having seen all three of them inside Vernon's car with an unidentified man prior to their deaths. Decades later, some investigators express their belief that a deceased criminal named Edward Thompson committed the murders, but there is no conclusive evidence to implicate him. Since Vernon and Charles were both gay men, could the murders have been a hate crime? If not, what was the actual motive and how did Louise become mixed up in the whole situation? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore one of the most bizarre unsolved triple homicides you'll ever hear about. May 15, 1988. Greenwood, South Carolina. After spending the evening at a basketball court, eight-year old Malakia “Kia” Logan heads back towards her apartment on her bicycle. Even though she only has to travel 300 yards, Kia never arrives and her abandoned bicycle is found. Two years later, a skull is discovered in a wooded area about 35 miles away and DNA testing eventually identifies it as belonging to Kia. In 2002, a suspect named Charles Wade Hampton is charged with Kia's murder after he confesses to the crime, but since he recants his confession and there is no other corroborating evidence against him, the charges against him are dropped. Did Hampton actually commit this crime or was someone else responsible? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a frustrating missing children's case which has remained unsolved for over 35 years. March 18, 1991. Azalea, Oregon. Two-year old Tommy Gibson goes missing from the front yard of his rural home. Tommy's father, Larry Gibson, who happens to be a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, claims that his son vanished while he was out jogging and later tells the authorities that his daughter witnessed Tommy get abducted by an unidentified couple driving a pick-up truck. However, investigators notice a number of suspicious discrepancies which make them believe that Larry caused Tommy's death and covered up what he did by disposing of his son's body. Larry is eventually charged with the crime and convicted of second-degree manslaughter and serves nearly three years in prison, but he continually maintains his innocence and no trace of Tommy is ever found. Was Larry Gibson actually responsible for the disappearance of his son? Or was the boy the victim of a stranger abduction? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a very frustrating missing children's case which still has a number of unanswered questions. March 10, 2007. Chocowinity, North Carolina. The mother of 19-year old university student Ginni Wood calls her up on her cell phone, but after their brief conversation ends, Ginni is never heard from again. Ginni told her mother she had travelled to Brownsville, Texas for spring break in order to visit her 19-year old best friend, Kelly Gaskins, and Kelly's 23-year old boyfriend, Ervin Williams. However, it turns out that Ervin is a fugitive who fled North Carolina after failing to appear in court on numerous felony charges and Kelly is also wanted for a probation violation. This leads to speculation that the couple travelled across the border into Mexico in order to evade the authorities before Ginni joined them there, but Ervin and Kelly are also not heard from again. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the perplexing story of three American citizens who seemingly went missing together in Mexico and have not been seen for the past 17 years. Since a gun Jeffrey owns is lying next to him, his death is ruled to be a suicide and investigators theorize that he had become despondent over a recent transfer to Puerto Rico. However, Jeffrey's parents discover some suspicious discrepancies to make them suspect he was murdered and while his cause of death is eventually changed from “suicide” to “undetermined”, there are no conclusive answers about how he was killed. February 20, 1992. South Korea. 30-year old Army Staff Sergeant Billy Ray Hargrove is found hanging by a parachute cord from a tree outside his residence and his death is ruled to be a suicide. Billy Ray's best friend, 37-year old Army Sergeant First Class Mike Carmichael becomes convinced that Billy Ray was murdered and vows to perform his own independent investigation. However, six weeks later, Mike is discovered hanging by a parachute cord from a locker handle inside his barracks office. Even though Mike's death is also ruled to be a suicide, his family believes that he was murdered in order to cover up the truth about Billy Ray's death. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore two suspicious and controversial suicide cases from the military involving three different servicemen whose families believed were the victims of foul play. She has been sexually assaulted and strangled to death with her own blouse and suspicion turns towards her 14-year old classmate, Steven Truscott, who claims that he gave Lynne a ride to the highway on his bicycle and saw her climb into a passing car. Steven is soon charged, convicted and sentenced to death for Lynne's murder, but his sentence is commuted to life imprisonment and he is paroled in 1969. Decades later, Steven files a successful appeal to have his conviction overturned, but there is still a lot of debate about who was actually responsible for Lynne Harper's murder. Last week, we released Part One of our special eight-year anniversary episode of “The Trail Went Cold” about one of the most controversial murder cases in the history of Canada. This week, in Part Two, we will share the rest of the story before breaking down and analyzing all the details about the crime. February 13, 2001. Bogota, New Jersey. The husband of 42-year old Patricia Viola returns home to discover that she has vanished and left all of her personal belongings behind. Prior to her disappearance, Patricia had been experiencing a lot of stress in her life and hinted to her best friend that she had something very important to get off her chest. One year later, a severed foot is found washed up on a beach 45 miles from Patricia's residence. While DNA testing eventually confirms that the foot belongs to Patricia, the rest of her remains are never found and there is no explanation for how she died. Was Patricia Viola's death a suicide or was she the victim of a foul play? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the unexplained death of a beloved housewife and mother which still does not have a conclusive resolution. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Bogota Police Department at (201) 487-2400. February 11, 2004. Lake Township, Pennsylvania. After returning home from work, 22-year old Phylicia Thomas goes missing and her boyfriend's best friend, Steven Allen Martin, soon becomes a person of interest. Two-and-a-half years earlier, an 18-year old friend of Phylicia's named Jennifer Barziloski had also disappeared and since Steve was the last known person to see Jennifer alive, there is speculation that the cases are connected. Over the years, rumours circulate that Phylicia may have been murdered at a party, but while Jennifer's skull is found in a wooded area in 2010, there are no conclusive answers about how she died and Phylicia remains a missing person. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore two unsolved cases involving young women who went missing under suspicious circumstances from the same area. February 2, 2008. Tinley Park, Illinois. Police are summoned to a Lane Bryant clothing store at the Brookside Marketplace Shopping Center and discover that five victims have been fatally shot in the back room: the 42-year old store manager Rhoda McFarland, and four customers, 37-year old Connie Wolfolk, 34-year old Jennifer Bishop, 33-year old Carrie Hudek Chiuso, and 22-year old Sarah Szafranski. Even though another store employee was wounded with a bullet which grazed her neck, she winds up surviving and tells police that the shooting was committed by a black male. While the crime is suspected to be a robbery gone wrong, investigators are unable to find or identify the perpetrator or make much sense of his actions. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the Lane Bryant Shooting, a baffling crime involving five murdered victims which has somehow managed to remain unsolved for 16 years. December 6, 1991. Austin, Texas. After responding to a fire at a local yogurt shop, the authorities discover the burned nude bodies of four victims who have all been shot in the head: 17-year old employees Eliza Thomas and Jennifer Harbison; Jennifer's 15-year old sister, Sarah Harbison; and Sarah's 13-year old friend, Amy Ayers. Nearly eight years later, investigators arrest four suspects for the murders and while the charges against two of them are eventually dropped, the other two – Robert Springsteen and Michael Scott – had confessed to the crime, so they wind up being convicted at their respective trials. However, both men's convictions are overturned due to civil rights violations and forensic testing reveals the presence of DNA on the victims which does not match any of the alleged perpetrators. In 2009, the charges against the two defendants are dismissed and they are released from prison, but there are no conclusive answers about who actually committed the crime. This week, “The Trail Went Cold” will be releasing the first part of a special two-part episode about one of our most highly requested cases: the Austin Yogurt Shop Murders. Special thanks to listener Melissa Lovell for narrating the opening of this episode. If have any information about this case, please contact the Austin Police Department at (512) 472-TIPS (8477). January 28, 1981. Bossier Parish, Louisiana. The decomposed body of a young woman is discovered in the woods next to a remote logging road. The victim has been stabbed nine times, but since she cannot be identified, she becomes known as “Bossier Doe”. 34 years later, Bossier Doe is finally identified as 17-year old Carol Ann Cole, a Michigan resident who had run away from Texas a few months before she was killed. Suspicion turns towards John Chesson, the man who reported the discovery of Carol Ann's body to the police, as his daughter was certain that Carol Ann had stayed at their family's residence prior to her death and Chesson would go to prison for murdering another person several years later. Did John Chesson kill Carol Ann Cole or was someone else responsible? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore another tragic story about a Jane Doe who remained unidentified for three decades, but her murder is still unsolved. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Bossier Parrish Sheriff's Office at (318) 965-2203. May 10, 1967. Hannibal, Missouri. 13-year old Joey Hoag, his 11-year old brother Billy Hoag, and their 14-year old friend Craig Dowell leave their homes to explore some caves, but never return. Even though a massive search effort is conducted of all the caves in the area, they fail to turn up any trace of the boys or evidence of what happened to them. Over the years, there is speculation that a construction project caused Joey, Billy and Craig to become trapped in a cave or that they may have been abducted and murdered by an unknown third party, but there is no conclusive evidence to support any scenario. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the tragic unsolved disappearance of three children who have become known as “The Lost Boys of Hannibal”. May 26, 1989. Kelowna, British Columbia. While taking a lengthy backpacking trip through Canada, 20-year old British national Charles Horvath cashes a cheque at a bank, but soon vanishes without a trace. After not hearing from him for several months, Charles' mother, Denise Allan, travels to Kelowna to perform a search and learns that Charles was staying at a local campground until he abruptly disappeared and left his personal belongings behind. Over the years, there are a number of leads, including an anonymous note which states that Charles was killed at a party before his body was dumped in a lake, but no evidence is found to indicate what happened to him. Did Charles Horvath become a victim of foul play? If not, what actually caused his disappearance? May 15, 1981. East Chicago, Indiana. Jay Given, a 51-year old attorney and political operative, attends a political fundraiser at the local Elks Club, but is fatally shot through the back of the head while exiting through the building's front doors. While a shell casing and a slug are collected from the crime scene and placed in an evidence drawer at the police station, it is later discovered that the items have been tampered with. The investigation turns towards the town's deputy police chief, John Cardona, who attended the fundraiser, owned a similar firearm to the murder weapon, and had a motive to kill Jay. While a grand jury investigation takes place, the authorities ultimately believe that the evidence against Cardona is not strong enough to file charges. Was John Cardona actually responsible for the murder of Jay Given? Was a cover-up orchestrated to ensure the perpetrator would never be prosecuted? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore an unsolved case from a town where corruption and political maneuvering were rampant. If you have any information about this case, please contact the East Chicago Police Department at (219) 391-8400. February 14, 1982. Coconino County, Arizona. The decomposing body of a young woman is found in a remote area alongside Interstate 40 and while her exact cause of death cannot be determined, she is believed to be the victim of a homicide. Since all attempts to identify her are unsuccessful, she becomes a Jane Doe and earns the nickname “Valentine Sally”. 39 years later, Valentine Sally is identified as 17-year old Carolyn Eaton, who had run away from her home in Missouri over one month earlier. Shortly before her death, Carolyn was seen at a truck stop with an older man and while he is suspected of being her killer, the man is never identified. On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore the tragic story of a Jane Doe who got her name back after four decades, but whose murder remains unsolved. November 6, 1980. Baltimore, Maryland. Nancy Snow, a 44-year old congressional fundraiser with the Republican National Committee, is picked up from a hotel by Paul Collins, the house-sitter at her apartment in Annapolis. Nancy soon vanishes without a trace, but Collins claims that she left on an impromptu trip to Florida with a man named “Captain Jay”, so she could spend several weeks crewing his yacht during a sailing trip through the Caribbean. However, Nancy's family has a hard time believing this, particularly after discovering that Collins used her chequebook after she disappeared, but there is no conclusive evidence to prove he was responsible for her disappearance. Did Nancy Snow come to harm after leaving on a trip with the mysterious Captain Jay? Or did Paul Snow completely fabricate this entire story? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a frustrating missing persons case which has remained unsolved for over four decades. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office at (410) 222-1740. March 12, 1992. Huntsville, Alabama. SPC Chad Langford, an Army military policeman stationed at the Redstone Arsenal, performs a patrol of the base and sends in a radio call that he is investigating an abandoned vehicle. Shortly thereafter, Chad is found lying in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound to the head and since the Army believes that Chad was shot with his own weapon, they conclude that he staged an elaborate suicide in order to make it look like he was killed in the line of duty. However, Chad's family notices a number of strange discrepancies which make them think he was murdered, as he had spoken about doing some secret undercover work investigating drug activity prior to his death. Was Chad Langford the victim of foul play before the whole thing was covered up? Or was the original suicide ruling correct all along? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a bizarre military-themed mystery which has been the subject of controversy for three decades. April 3, 2004. La Cygne, Kansas. 23-year old Alonzo Brooks vanishes while attending a party at a farmhouse and his body is discovered on the banks of a nearby creek nearly one month later. While a forensic pathologist is unable to determine Alonzo's exact cause of death, rumours start circulating that he was the victim of a hate crime before his body was placed at that location. In 2021, after Alonzo's body is exhumed and given a new autopsy, it is announced that his death has officially been reclassified as a homicide. Who was responsible for killing Alonzo Brooks and what was the motive for his murder? If his death wasn't a hate crime, what did actually happen to him? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a controversial case which was featured on the Netflix reboot of “Unsolved Mysteries”. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Kansas City FBI Office at (816) 512-8200 or call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (8477).
