I found a super strong & powerful post that got me fired up and it only has seven words to it. This came from the Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Strong people rarely have an easy past.” As I got to thinking about this, I started seeing myself in a way that I usually don't see myself at all. I realize I'm a lot stronger than I give myself credit for due to the “storms” I have been through. It also occurred to me that I am a lot stronger and better because of the storms that my loved ones have gone through as well. This episode I got a bit fired up and emotional (I know, big surprise… LOL) as I really started to see myself and my loved ones in not only a different light, but a much stronger & clearer light too!! I hope this episode shows you about the true statement from Morrie Schwartz, from Mitch Albom's “Tuesdays With Morrie” - where he reminded us that “death ends a life, not a relationship.” If we keep working on our relationships in life, and not what the world tells us is important, we will keep getting stronger for sure. Saw an amazingly accurate post from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) where this thought was shared: “You become unstoppable when you work on things people can't take away from you. Things like your character, habits, mindset, and attitude.” This connected with me in a very direct way this morning as I was reflecting on things to start my day. Reading some things that help get my day started in a positive direction and allows me to try and continue to focus on my burn / purpose for getting things done and creating things to help others (along with myself.) An overwhelming feeling and connection to this post, was from Mitch Albom's book, “Tuesdays With Morrie”, where Morrie (Mitch's college professor), shared this (paraphrased) thought: “Why would I take all the time? Taking makes me feel like I'm dying. Giving makes me feel like I'm Living!” I want to keep becoming unstoppable and things like this thought, helps me to at least have my best shot at doing just that! Join me in not jumping in any mud-pits today!! Thanks for listening. Very cool morning today (not just temperature wise), where I found 3 connections to a message I wanted to share with you. First came a post that I saw on Twitter / X, where Bri Lewerke (@brilewerke) shared a clip about how “The way Erica Wheeler is looking out for Caitlin Clark is everything.” It's about an older, more experienced player helping a younger player and where both of them put ego aside to be their best for each other and their team. I then listened to Mitch Albom's “Tuesday People” podcast with his friend & producer Lisa Goich, and today's podcast Episode 202 (find it HERE) where they talk about the more experienced actors helping the younger ones in the play about “Tuesdays With Morrie”. Mitch makes a great connection with just about all the different play productions around the world, where the older actor (playing Morrie) and the younger actor (playing Mitch), develop this very strong friendship - exactly how it happened for the real Mitch and Morrie. Wisdom being shared with younger people where it changes lives! Finally, from the book that I read a passage from, every morning, “The Traveler's Gift” by Andy Andrews - comes the lesson on Wisdom. It reminds us that we do get to choose who we hang out with and learn from, along with the importance the words from wiser people are often like raindrops on dry ground. They help people grow. So again, a very inspirational connection here with these 3 things (at least for me) and I hope you are able to draw some lessons to add to your life and the lives of others. Thanks for listening. I want to start with something lovely, a little bit of serendipity. I meet from time to time with a good friend to catch up. This friend has a tradition, after our conversations, of giving me a book to read. He is a big reader, a person of ideas. So often he gives me a new book, usually hard cover, that just came out, and that he had read right away. But on this last occasion, for reasons I do not know, he gave me a book off his shelf, a used book, a paperback that he had read long ago. The book is called Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom, who had achieved fame with Tuesdays With Morrie. I love the title. I would love to have a little faith. At first I wondered whether this book could possibly speak to our world today. It came out in 2009. That is not only 15 years ago. That is a different universe ago. All the places that I love: America, Israel, Harvard, the Jewish community in North America, were so different back then. Could a book written before October 7, before Israel's longest war, before the scary rise of anti-Semitism, before the toxic division in our own country, could such a book speak to us now?
Renowned author Mitch Albom joins Brendan to talk about his works, and the stage production of Tuesdays With Morrie coming to Dublin next month.

Mitch Albom wrote the first book. Rob Schwartz lived the reality. What reality? Morrie Schwartz… you know, Tuesdays With Morrie, was Rob's dad. Almost thirty years after his dad died, Rob has released a book: The Wisdom of Morrie: Living and Aging Creatively and Joyfully – manuscripts he found in his dad's desk years after Morrie had passed. I ask Rob about his dad, Morrie and also about his Mom, Charlotte. I love the warmth and pride in his voice when he speaks of them. He gets emotional at one point – it's such emphasis that love does last forever, even if the body is gone. Rob and I discuss Morrie's advice for living a long and happy life, the concept of ‘tension of opposites'… and if you're thinking those subjects sound a little esoteric, let me assure you, he is his father's son and Rob keeps the conversation real, and in the present. I think you'll find the “personal question” part of this conversation really interesting! Mitch Albom is the author of books that have sold more than 40 million copies, including eight New York Times number one best-sellers. Several are considered classics like Tuesdays with Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Appearing on The Spark Thursday, Albom talked about his latest book -- a novel called The Little Liar,"The Little Liar is a novel set during World War II, narrated by the Voice of Truth. And the little liar is actually a boy who lives in a Greek city who, until he's 11, has never told a lie in his life. And there's a little girl in the town who loves him for it. And then when the Nazis invade, they discover his reputation and they decide to use him as a weapon. And they trick him into standing on the railroad tracks and telling all the people in his town that the trains are going to new homes and new jobs and that everything's going to be good and they should get on them. And he does this thinking, telling the truth and believing that if he does this, they'll let him go back to his family. And only on the very last day does he see his family and the little girl shoved into a boxcar and he finds out that these trains are actually going out, but in the concentration camp and he realizes that the first lie that he's ever told in life is actually going to be the worst lie he's ever going to tell. And the book follows him and the little girl and the family for the next 40 years and shows the consequences of that single lie on that single day and how it affected him, the girl, the family, even the Nazi who tricked him. It ultimately becomes a story about forgiveness and hope against that backdrop. But has the question of the truth and how precious the truth is and what happens when we pervert it." When asked whether the timing of the book's release was influenced by the misinformation and disinformation we're subjected to everyday, Albom responded,"I can't take any credit for the fact that it comes out during a time when suddenly anti-Semitism and echoes of the past are prevalent. Because I started a couple of years ago, no one would have known that. But but I did know that we live in a time where people are choosing their own truth and, they listen to one cable TV channel and don't listen to any of the others, or they read one paper, they follow one through social media thing. And we live in a time where at that famous expression goes a lie told once is easily seen as a lie, but a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth. And, we see how quickly on the Internet and in social media and Twitter and the like, how a single lie can be shot across the world before truth gets its pants on. And and so I thought this is absolutely a time for a book narrated by the Voice of Truth that talks about -- look at what you're doing to me. Look at how you're ruining me and destroying me." Beginning with his book Tuesdays With Morrie, Albom has been viewed as one of the world's iconic writers. Here's what he said about his writing career,"I've had a very fortunate career and it's been very varied. And I meet people who say, Oh, I just knew you from ESPN, I didn't even know you wrote books. And these other people say, I only know you from your books. I didn't even know you covered sports. And so I've had a lot of different lives, but I've been very blessed to meet some very influential people like Morrie Schwartz, who was the story of Tuesdays with Morrie. And I think that that was kind of a turning point in my life when I was able to sit with a man who was dying from Lou Gehrig's disease and hear what was important in life and what wasn't once he was going to die. And I never forgot those lessons that I wrote. I wrote that book not to become a bestseller. I wrote it to help pay his medical bills and to have something personal for me to remember. And the fact that it became a big bestseller was sort of accidental. But it also taught me that those themes are really important to people, and I've been writing books that sort of touch on them ever since. And the fact that they find a wide audience is a blessing. But, I don't think it's me. I think it's the themes that I write about. And, that's why people embrace the work." Amazing quote coming at us today from the Positivity Project & it reminds us that "A person's most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen, and a hand willing to help." One key connection to this is Mitch Albom. Amazing things he is doing to help so many people in so many areas. His efforts and attitude all come from his old college professor, Morrie Schwartz. EdLeader Podcast host Dr. Rob Jackson might just be a closet bibliophile, someone who has a great love of books. Occasionally he enjoys returning to touchstone texts or timeless tomes, those books that shaped him early in his career and life and bringing them forward, spending time again with the words, thoughts, and reflections that moved him then and move him still. This latest episode is just that, a return to a treasured book. The book, Tuesdays with Morrie, became a runaway bestseller 26 years ago. It was made into a movie and a Broadway play and is said to have changed millions of lives. A successful young man made a series of trips to visit his college professor almost twenty years after graduating. The professor, Morrie Schwartz, was in the final weeks of his life as he was gradually overtaken by ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. The book recounts the fourteen Tuesday visits the young man, Mitch Albom, made, their conversations, Morrie's lectures, and his life experiences. In his final days, the professor taught his student, and all of us how to die, and consequently, how to live.He said, “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”In this episode, Dr. Jackson is beyond honored and excited to welcome another young man and his mentor to the podcast. They read and shared this book with each other and then shared it with Dr. Jackson. In his hands, it felt familiar, it felt timeless.Regardless of what day of the week it is as you listen to this, pretend it is Tuesday. Let's join Morrie and Mitch, and these two guests, let's imagine opening the worn pages of this beloved book and in Morrie's words, “Let it come in.”The professor said, “As long as we can love each other, and remember the feeling of love we had, we can die without ever really going away. All the love you created is still there. All the memories are still there. You live on—in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here.” As EdLeaders, you will live on in the hearts of everyone you have touched and nurtured while you were here.Dr. Rob Jackson on TwitterEdLeader Podcast on TwitterElijah Jackson on Twitter

Last month, I stopped by a Barnes & Noble store and found myself face-to-face with a book: “The Wisdom of Morrie.” You might recall Mitch Albom's heartwarming novel, “Tuesdays With Morrie.” Well, this time, the newly released book was authored by Morrie himself and edited by his son Rob Schwartz. I'm thrilled to introduce you to Rob today. A writer, producer, and entrepreneur, Rob Schwartz's journey has taken him from the pages of prestigious publications like Time, Newsweek, and Variety to the creative landscapes of script editing and film production. In this episode, we'll delve into life's profound questions, as Rob shares his journey of uncovering his father's manuscript. We explore how its contents not only led him to confront his own grief, but also provided deeper insights into his father's perspective on embracing joy, seeking laughter, and infusing creativity into every facet of life. We discussed: The larger questions of life that magnify with age How Rob discovered his father's original manuscript and its depth Why editing his father's manuscript had Rob coming to terms with his grief Morrie's philosophy of pursuing joy and what makes you laugh Why age becomes irrelevant when engaging in meaningful pursuits What techniques can we employ to make life more creative, joyous and vibrant Connect with Rob A Social Psychologist's Lessons for Living on Psychology Today The Wisdom of Morrie Rob Schwartz on LinkedIn Rob Schwartz on Instagram ONETOPIA Benefit Music Festival
Tuesdays With Morrie is the bestselling memoir of all time. Rob Schwartz, Morrie's son, discovered an unpublished manuscript in his father's desk drawer years after his death. Rob recently published this incredible book, The Wisdom of Morrie, and he joins the Good Mood Show this week to discuss the deep wisdom of his father. Learn how to live fully in the present moment and appreciate the beauty of life. Rob teaches us about forgiveness, compassion, and strengthening relationships. When we have strong relationships with others who love and support us, it fulfills us at a deep level. It brings meaning and purpose to our lives, and it improves our wellbeing and happiness. You will come away from this episode with a greater understanding and appreciation for what it means to be human. Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: The importance of strengthening human relationships How to appreciate the beauty of life What it means to stay human Why the most beautiful time in life is now [07:14] The Importance of Strengthening Human Relationships When we have strong relationships with others who love and support us, it fulfills us at a deep level. It brings meaning and purpose to our lives, and it improves our wellbeing and happiness. Our relationships provide opportunities for growth, as we learn how to be more empathetic, compassionate, and understanding of others. As Morrie Schwartz said, "Love is how you stay alive even after you're gone." The impact we have on others through strong relationships can continue long after we're gone. [13:50] What It Means to Stay Human To stay human means to stay true to the qualities that make us distinctly human - our capacity for love, compassion, empathy, creativity, and spirituality. It means relating to others in a genuine, authentic way and connecting deeply with their humanity. It means appreciating beauty, art, and joy. It means living in accordance with higher human values like kindness, honesty and integrity. In essence, to stay human is to avoid becoming hardened, cynical or indifferent. It is to remain open-hearted, thoughtful, and connected to others and to the world around us. [16:51] The Most Beautiful Time in Life is Now Now is the most beautiful time in life because it is the only time we truly have to experience life fully. The past is gone and the future is uncertain, so all we really have is this present moment. When we live fully in the now, we develop a greater appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us. As we age and gain wisdom, we realize how precious each moment is. Understanding our own impermanence and mortality makes us value our time while we are still alive. Living in the present allows us to have more meaningful connections and be fully present with the people we love right now. Now is the only time we can act with purpose and express our values. So in essence, now is the most beautiful time in life because it is the only time we have to truly live, love, experience joy, and appreciate the gift of being alive. Notable quotes: [16:51] It's always now. The past and the future don't exist. So the most beautiful time in life has to be now because it's the only time. The late Morrie Schwartz was the subject of the popular book and movie TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE by Mitch Albom. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Robin Whitten discuss Steven Weber's narration of Schwartz's posthumously edited guide to aging. Weber sounds seamlessly connected to the author's timeless wisdom and altruistic spirit. With moving personal stories and observations, Morrie invites listeners to age proactively, to live creatively, and to seize every day and opportunity to fill our later years with joy and loving connections. Todays guest is Rob Schwartz. You may not know him, but you've likely heard of his dad, Morrie. Bestseller, “Tuesdays with Morrie,” sold over 18 million copies after it was released in 1997. While Morrie, a beloved dad and professor at Brandeis University, was dying of ALS, Mitch Albom, one of his students, sat down to interview him every Tuesday for 12 weeks. This became a treasure trove of his philosophy as his health declined. It was very early in our understanding of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. Several years after “Tuesdays with Morrie," and the death of his father, Rob, found an almost finished manuscript in his dad's desk drawer. He decided to edit this book as a tribute to his dad. Now, “The Wisdom of Morrie," recently released, is a new look at Morries' life wisdom and lessons. I was happy to be reminded of the spirit and light that filled his life, despite that he was dying. A reminder from Morrie: “Dying is only one thing to be upset about; living an unhappy life is something else.” Show Notes: Morrie is known for his positive attitude and growth mindset before and after he was diagnosed with ALS. He was an extremely curious, compassionate and intelligent man. He always had this intense empathy for everybody, and was open to different worldviews. He was aware of others' difficulties and their pain. Once you're open to somebody else's worldview and perspective, he said, you're going to see things in a different light. The Wisdom of Morrie is really about lessons on how to live your best life and how to live with the tension or paradox of joy and sorrow. His attitude was…”I'm gonna live the best that I can in the time that I have left. And that means I have to put bitterness, anger and disappointment aside and concentrate on what gives me joy and life and pushes me forward.” Morrie wrote a bit about ageism. He has a term called age casting, which is to make assumptions about older people just because they're old. He also includes many practical tips on how to live more creatively and joyously as you age. Very simply put, what gives your life meaning, Morrie would say, is your relationship with other people. Morrie viewed aging as completely natural; Not something to be angry or despairing about, but something to understand as a natural process of life, and that you should appreciate what is strong and good about it, as opposed to trying to pick out, oh, my body isn't as strong as it used to be. There will always be the tension of opposites in our lives. This idea of balancing out hope and despair. In this book, Morrie was attempting to remove the stumbling blocks that prevent people from being happy and fulfilled. He believed that laughter was incredibly important and wondered why elderly people often forget to incorporate more humor in their lives. Don't let it slip away, he reminds us. Rob's most important lesson from his dad? Pay attention to your relationships and continue to strengthen them always. Resources: The Wisdom of Morrie. Available at all booksellers.

On this episode of I'm Dying To Tell You Podcast, I talk to Rob Schwartz son of Morrie Schwartz from the classic book Tuesdays with Morrie. We chat about the newly released book, “The Wisdom of Morrie.” The book was written by Morrie Schwartz, recently edited and released by Rob. The number one bestseller Tuesdays with Morrie was written from conversations with author Mitch Albom after Morrie was sick and knew he was in the process of dying from ALS. However, this newly released book, The Wisdom of Morrie was written by Morrie before he was diagnosed ALS. Rob rediscovered this manuscript that Morrie wrote about staying vibrant and connected for life. Morrie explores living and aging joyfully and creatively. Later life can be filled with many challenges, but it can also be one of the most beautiful and rewarding passages in anyone's lifetime. Morrie draws on his experiences as a social psychologist, teacher, father, friend, and sage to offer us a road map to navigate our futures. I hope you'll listen in and hear more from Morrie all these years later. Hugs, Lorri
