Jared and Anne Ladyem (anneladyem.com) breakdown two different games this week. First, Jared discusses the latest game from the team behind the Yakuza series with Judgment. We dive deep into being a detective and sometimes attorney while punching folks in the face. After that, we speed through a discussion of Virtue’s Last Reward after we quickly made our way through the game, so it’s mostly a discussion about the wild endings.
Retro Encounter had so much fun playing 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors last year that the same four codenamed panelists reunited for the sequel! Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward has more friendly robots, more diabolical puzzles, and more artificially intelligent rabbits than its predecessor, and the crew is here for all of it.
The deceased will deliver the eulogy, and those in attendance will have a couple of hours for rebuttal. The last show before E3 sees RPGamer co-owner / RPGCast regular Anna Marie Privitere return after an appearance on Episode 34 to talk games and the state of E3. Donald opens New Business with a brief NES mention before hitting his main event of Zero Escape: 999 and Virtue's Last Reward (including a Platinum trophy that will likely be his last). Anna then brings the maiden RPG love with Omega Quintet, which appears to be the result of sticking Disgaea, Stella Glow and a PS4 in a blender on puree. After that, we break down everything coming out in June for the role-playing fans (spoilers: A LOT). Stephen gets the dreaded montage as he played some, um, interesting things with his new fight stick, while Austen has been hitting the sauce in The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine before hitting the links for a little Dangerous Golf. It's golf made by the team who did Burnout 3. Need we say more? A brief Whatcha Watchin' ensues following the golf trip with Anna trying out "Diplomacy and Chili" with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Following a superhero block (including Captain America: Civil War) Donald keeps his streak alive with early impressions of Archer Season 6 - or should we say, Archer: Other M. But you're here for the big E3 preview and the crew does not disappoint. We make some predictions for the conferences - and like last year, some of them haven't been proven wrong yet. As well, we look at the state of E3 in an increasingly video-obsessed world. The Mushrooms prove one of Donald's predictions wrong while at the same time discuss the state of online conversation about localization, the joys of game collecting and... THAT trailer. Jon Stewart guest stars. The next show for us is the E3 recap, so please look forward to it, and send us things to talk about if the show's just going to get spoiled beforehand! You can find Anna on Twitter @amprivitere, on the RPGCast most weeks at rpgamer.com or twitch.tv/rpgamer - where you'll also find the archive of Omega Quintet streams. This podcast was recorded on June 5 and was edited by a hay-fever afflicted Donald Theriault.
Treasure Trove is all about bringing to light great, lesser appreciated games that are out there waiting to be played. This week I promise the show is all about a deep cut: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. This obscure, sci-fi themed game follows nine captives attempting to escape their deaths by solving puzzle rooms put together by a small CGI bunny named Zero III. I know. It's weird. But I promise it's great! Just listen in.
FEATURING: New Business: Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, Her Story, Virtue's Last Reward, The Witcher 3, Bravely Second, Stealth Inc. 2.Listener Mail: GBA recommendations, Nintendo preying on the uninformed, Katamari X Mario.
We tried to talk about how excited we are for a follow-up to 999 and Virtue's Last Reward, but there was zero escape from Goku's grip, and Extreme Butoden bullied its way into every topic.
This week, a splinter group of the gang takes a peek at the Vita/mobile game DanganRonpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, a visual mystery novel [game], the type of thing that's all the rage in the Japanese scene and trickles of which we see with other Vita games in particular such as Virtue's Last Reward. In essence, DanganRonpa plays as a fast-paced Ace Attorney game. From this crazy game there has spawned mobile ports to iOS & Android, two manga adaptations, full-on novels (yes, the written word), a TV anime running for a season so far (imbibed by our hosts alongside the game) and highly eligible for a second, a proper sequel titled DanganRonpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and a spinoff creatively entitled Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls - not only that, there's a set of pretty cool Monokuma merch for which Brian has already clicked the big "BUY NOW" button because, to Will's mild chagrin, everyone loves this demonic bear. A roundtable is held regarding [anime] adaptations - this specific one and the idea in general, with discussions about backstory and relevance of season 1; the game's soundtrack is discussed with a woeful lack of mention of composer Masafumi Takada's masterwork soundtrack of GodHand (Editor's note: rage) but with an abundance of approval on the theme's use of English. In our critique of the finer points of this game's plot, we draw reference to a most unexpected game we recently podcasted upon; we admire the titling of the Family-Oriented Serial Killer and the demise of many of Will's first date - er, character - choices, to the surprise of nobody and the sadness of all, in addition to his strange formulaic calculations of death rates over the episodes. DANCE, BABY, DANCE! Cast: Will, Esteban, Brian

This episode features one of Tom's favorite game genres, point-and-click adventures. The music this week is a bit more ambient than usual, but still enjoyable as usual. Lots of Lucas Arts games are featured, as well as many Western composers.Download MP3 Tracklist (full info here):

The ladies discuss The Secret World, Virtue's Last Reward (Vita), Playstation All Stars, Assassins Creed Liberation (Vita), BioShock: Rapture (book), Fallout New Vegas & Hay Day (iOS)
