In this not-episode, Madelyn and Emma talk about time loops in video games and high school performances of Groundhog Day. Also featuring the lack of an after in time loop stories, whether this is all a pandemic thing somehow, and how long it would take them to start drugging loved ones.

Under luppen synas Elden Rings bortslarvade kartbitar, orientering i GTA och den undre världen i Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Spelar storleken verkligen roll? På kartan alltså. It's a Leap Year, and the strange minds at Indieventure have taken this as a sign that we need to do a thematically appropriate episode about a gaming trope all three of us happen to love! Yes, since 2024 has an extra day, we decided to dedicate that sliver of bonus time to talk all about time loops. Trust us, it makes sense. Because of the fluid nature of this discussion we don't limit ourselves just to indie games on this occasion, although they remain a heavy focus because, y'know, if there's a good theme out there then there's 10 great indies and a couple of solid AAs to every AAA that nailed it, right? In this episode we talk about a whole bunch of timey-wimey titles including Deathloop, The Forgotten City, Hades, Heaven's Vault, In Stars and Time, Layers of Fear, Life Is Strange, Outer Wilds, P.T., The Sexy Brutale, Slay the Princess, The Stanley Parable, and Ultros. We also touch upon a few other games that aren't technically about time loops but evoke similar feelings thanks to the iterative way you're encouraged to play, such as Frostpunk and Hitman. We follow this up with a shorter discussion about how the shared experience of the pandemic has influenced storytelling in indie games in general, including but not limited to a notably increased use of the time loop trope; touching on 1000xRESIST, The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, Full Void, Goodbye Volcano High, In Stars and Time (again), Mediterranea Inferno, and Roman Sands RE:Build. That's not even a comprehensive list of our favourite time loop games, and we could literally have talked about this for another several episodes. Sadly, unlike the inhabitants of a time loop, we need to wrap things up eventually — but not before we share our latest hyperfixations! Rebecca has rather unexpectedly finished Romancelvania, and extremely unsurprisingly recently re-watched the live action Ace Attorney movie; Liam has caved to Rachel's influence and begun watching The Traitors, and has also finished playing Stardew Valley (apparently that's a thing you can do?!); and Rachel has been watching True Detective: Night Country, the fourth season of the acclaimed weird crime thriller anthology series which is finally back after a five-year hiatus.
There are but a handful of titles in the pantheon of OG indies. More than a decade old, these games started a subcultural wave that's still going strong to this day. Limbo is one such game, and we have deep histories with it. It's time to explore this eerie sensation once again for our review—in the dark. This is Underplayed, where Bo_Po and DiscoCola review indie games of all kinds! Timestamps00:00 - Start10:16 - DiscoCola's Secret Game34:28 - Bo_Po's Secret Game51:18 - Featured Game: Limbo

In the first review episode of the year Seoirse is not joined by Tomas or Laura but in their place steps friend of the pod and adventure game enthusiast Kieran who reviewed no less than 5 games! Kieran first reviews two of the most talked about adventure games of the year, Lucy Dreaming and The Excavation of Hobbs Barrow. He then reviews Grandma Badass who gets involved in increasingly absurd situations just to feed her cat. Speaking of cats, Seoirse reviews THE cat game of the year, Stray. Kieran then finishes off by reviewing 2017 time looping murder mystery game The Sexy Brutale and reveals whether Perfect Tides was indeed perfect. All that and much more!

Recorded December 5, 2020 “Outatime”. An iconic Delorian license plate. Also the center of most of Nate and Ryan’s discussions today. No, they are not talking about back to the future but other things that are “Out of time”. However, they first they talk about what is happening in their lives and try some rather interesting flavored foods. Then, Ryan talks about a game called the Sexy Brutale where a the player controls Lafcadio Boone, a preacher, trapped in a time loop where all the members of the party he is attending repeatedly die. After which, Nate and Ryan talk about some of the things in their own lives which seem to be out of time. Things that no longer fit in our modern society (at least not as much as they used to). Finally, for the main media, they discuss The Next Generation episode “The Neutral Zone” with the predominant side plot where three people from our time are woken up in the 24th century. Through the events of the show they discuss what makes human kind better than they are, the Borg vs. the Ferengi, Star Trek’s positive perception of the future, and why meddling passengers should just stay off the bridge. This episode i look into a long since deleted negative Dark souls review. and drink for every time the reviewer completely missed the point. Drinking what you ask? Why a long island ice tea of course! What can a scathing review form the days of yore, retrieved by the wayback machine, offer us here in the wondrous future of 2020? turns out actually really rather a lot, even if you have Dark souls fatigue as I do. So have a listen to this chunky and durnky episode of G.u.I! Also, you can take this episode (and part two, dropping next week) as full of spoilers for The Sexy Brutale. We sat with Charles Griffiths, an award winning games designer, to talk about the modern classic The Sexy Brutale. We talked with him about what he's been playing, (temporarily) dropped him off in the Thunder Plains, then asked him about the game: what's the name all about? what the game is all about? what about those puzzles? are all topics of conversation. Charles also drops some knowledge on how he designs puzzles such that they aren't too easy or too difficult. So you'll definitely want to listen in to that. This episode is so chocked full of stuff, that I would recommend you check out the full show notes for this episode, as we've added a whole bunch of extra information there.
