In spiritual direction circles, we often talk about the distance between the head and the heart as being the "longest journey". But this, the longest journey, is essential. If we want a relationship with Jesus, beyond our head-knowledge, we must go where he goes and speak the language he speaks. We have to go to our hearts.
In the monthly analysis of the CPI report, the Inflation Guy reflects on an improving inflation picture while cautioning that it isn't improving quite as much as the surprisingly-awesome core and headline figures today suggested. There were two large outliers that likely won't repeat. That said, it is a positive-enough report that the Fed's presumptive rate hike expected later this month might be deferred. Inflation continues to trend slowly lower, but only slowly - and although the longest journey begins with a single step there are a whole lot of steps ahead before we get to the 2% Promised Land. In October 2021, expedition ‘The Overlanding Ambulance' set off from Liverpool, UK in a Land Rover Defender Ambulance to attempt the Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Journey by Ambulance'. The team is made up of Rachel Nixon, Lawrence Dodi, and Peggy the travel spaniel. Both Rachel and Lawrence are veterinary surgeons who are undertaking this adventure at their own expense with the goal of raising money and attention for two charities that are close to their hearts; Anthony Nolan and Vetlife. Rachel and Lawrence took a leave of absence from their jobs and hit the road with Peggy. While living and travelling full time in the ambulance, they journeyed through 24 countries, and ventured as far as Armenia! While in Ushguli, Georgia (the highest inhabited settlement in Europe), they successfully crossed the 20,000km target set by Guinness World Records as the minimum record attempt. But they aren't finished yet... --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lady-overlander-radio/support

One of the greatest mysteries of Christmas is found in the very audacious idea that God, who is “LIGHT” according to scripture, would choose to come and live on earth, trading heaven and glory for pain, suffering, darkness, insecurity and death. Christmas begs to answer why the “Light of Creation” travelled so far. He travelled “light” coming with nothing; but when He did, LIGHT travelled, cloaked in a suitcase of skin, wrapped in the rags of a newborn baby. In our message time together on this fourth Sunday of Advent, we will explore two angles that may help answer why. One, Christmas makes God real to us. Two, Christmas makes God close to us.Do you have prayer requests? If you've ever experienced the joy of having a baby come into your world, you also know what comes quickly after: chaos! Babies have a way of turning things completely upside-down, and when they come and stay, our lives are never the same. One of the most marvelous pieces of the deep theology we call the “incarnation” is that Jesus, God with skin on, came to us as a tiny, helpless baby. And, I feel pretty certain, that His coming brought joy to his earthly parents. But we know that it also brought chaos, both early on as they fled from Herod and later when literally every heart in creation would be forced to make a decision about His identity and His charge to “follow him.” Today we'll consider the chaos that comes with ordinary babies, but mostly, as we ask some of the same questions we did with our own kids—we'll find that with Him, the answers are a lot bigger.Do you have prayer requests? THAT Jesus came is arguably the most important truth of all. But knowing WHY He came certainly comes in a close second. If we don't know WHY He came, we will never know what we are supposed to be doing as His Church; and not knowing, we will tend to make church all about us instead of all about Him. The good new is that it is easy to know why He came. The answers to that question practically jump off of every page of the Gospels, if we are looking for them. So, let's be looking. In today's message we meet an old man named Simeon who had been waiting a long time to see this Child.Do you have prayer requests? In the middle of all that's going on around us, three things tend to be true: we don't see much, things are rarely only as they seem, and you never know what God is up to. As we kick off our Advent/Christmas series today, we take a macroscopic look at the pages of history and note that most of the really significant stuff--is the stuff humans completely miss. It's partly because we're not that great at seeing things for what they are; it's also because God tends to work quietly in the background. In the world where Jesus first came, all eyes were on Rome. Power and politics were the news of the day, oppression and injustice were the lament of the masses. But what happened mostly unseen on a sleepy night in Bethlehem was about to change EVERYTHING.Do you have prayer requests? #198: The Longest Journey is One You Never Start In this Friday fact episode, I am sharing my healing journey and talking about the process of healing. “Healing doesn't mean the damage never happened or existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.” Today I am sharing my thoughts on the process of healing and how it is a journey to heal our bodies physically, emotionally, spiritually and this is how we can actually rewrite our stories. In this episode, we discuss: The healing journey, how it is a process and something we can go through to stop carrying our past with us in a way that no longer controls our life. Whatever you don't need to carry any longer is what you need to heal. We are always building our new identities every single day. We are our biggest commitment at all times. The Longest Journey was one of the earliest games we covered for this show, way back in the winter of 2011. We'd intended to hit up its sequel, Dreamfall, because we heard good things. Now, finally, we've gotten around to playing it and... we're not impressed. The game's very strong opening gives way to a muddled story, and the shift away from a more standard point and click adventure game toward a 3D action adventure scheme does not serve it well. So, this one turns into kind of a dunkfest.

We've visited 1999 before, so we briefly set it in context before moving on to the salient question: What even is this game? We talk about the way the story begins, the environment interactivity, and the "open world" and time, among other topics. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Up until we're looking for Warehouse 8 Issues covered: what this game was relative to 1999, the most expensive title of its day, lack of commercial success, a strange turn for Yu Suzuki, the importance of SEGA in the industry at the time, how much of Ryo's story has been told, Dreamcast's weird experiments, the change of the Japanese market, not even really knowing what this game was, starting from scratch even from a genre perspective, "full reactive eyes entertainment" or FREE, getting into the cold open, motivating the player, giving you an in to the mystery and the start of play, player and character motivations tightly linked, slowly introducing you to the world, removing some of the mechanics of mourning, the Band-Aid of power, "pointless interaction," little cutscenes with his father, methodical slow initial pacing, being worried about a full inventory, quickly removing a picture from the wall, a sort of tech fetishization, attention to detail, feeling like a simulation, what kind of simulation this is, very elaborate per-character scripting, the sorts of ways we simulate these days, the cost of developing a game like this, other highly scheduled games of the time, day-night schedules, always having the clock on the HUD, lack of time manipulation, learning to know your location, learning the schedules of characters, seeing a character leave or arrive at his apartment, being able to theorize about what characters it made sense to talk to, calling back to text adventures, process of elimination vs logic-ing out, systemic conversation options, automating something similar to Ultima keywords, spaces in the notebook, having cultural aspects in the story, integrating into a foreign culture, likely personal goals for the game, an allegory for certain clashes, the fortune-teller, upsetting the DAoC economy, staying away from the WoW economy, making crafting more or less optional, encouraging interaction between players or not, insider training in WoW, real world money, getting around in WoW, playing modless, finding a place again a decade later, having those moments you can't have any other way, being aware of your market and building budget-appropriate. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Charlie Chaplin, System Shock 2, Planescape: Torment, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, EverQuest, Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, Counterstrike, Alien vs Predator, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Team Fortress Classic, Half-Life, Quake, Final Fantasy VIII, Medal of Honor, The Longest Journey, Sierra, Unreal Tournament, Homeworld, Silent Hill, Super Smash Bros, Mario Party 2, Dreamcast, Crazy Taxi, The Offspring, Soulcalibur, Yu Suzuki, Hang-On, Space Harrier, Virtua Racing, Virtua Fighter, Out Run, Afterburner, SEGA, Blue Dragon, Phantasy Star Online I & II, Sonic Adventure, Blue Stinger, Seaman, Samba de Amigo, Rez, Ikaruga, PlayStation 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Trespasser, Gone Home, The Sims, Majora's Mask, Groundhog Day, Ocarina of Time, GTA III, Assassin's Creed (series), Bethesda Game Studios, Skyrim, Deadline, Witness, LucasArts, Ultima (series), Yakuza (series), Godzilla, jesusfreak144000, Eric Fox, Dark Age of Camelot, World of Warcraft, EVE Online, Makendi/Aaron, Twitch, Curse, Ashton Herrmann, Morrowind, Dark Souls, Game Maker's Toolkit, Dead Space (series), Frank Gibeau, Mark Brown. Last week we talked about good games with rubbish tales. This week, it's the reverse - great stories with bad games attached to them. John thinks Dreamfall had an moving story about faith, alongside an awful 3D adventure interface. Katharine hates looking at the wall in Soma because the underwater robo-facility is so intriguing. And Brendan is sad that Pyre had a fiddly netball game attached to its warm tale of friendship and justice. Nearly two thousand migrants have died in the Mediterranean Sea in 2015, trying to get to the European Union. Many of them are fleeing miserable conditions - wars, persecution and poverty - left behind in countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea. But the southern states of the EU such as Greece and Italy where migrants arrive, do not have the resources to cope with the swelling numbers. So what should they do? Send them back? Pass them along? In the Balance looks at the push and pull factors driving this vast movement of people and considers the solutions available to the people and the countries affected. Presenter Ed Butler talks to former Italian Foreign Minister and EU Commissioner Emma Bonino, one-time head of the Africa Development Bank Mthuli Ncube and Alexander Casella, author of Breaking the Rules, a book about his time working with the UN’s refugee agency. "It has taken me all my life to allow myself to be what I am and to listen to what my inner self is telling me, more and more directly, without waiting for permission from others or currying approval from people symbolizing my parents." "As the journey to ourselves is a life-long journey, its end will not coincide with the end of therapy. But successful therapy should have helped us to discover and perceive our own genuine needs and to learn to satisfy them. This is precisely what individuals wounded in early childhood have never been able to do." ------------------------------------------------------------------ Read more about this podcast here: http://howihelpmyself.com/alice-miller-audio-english/ Please send your feedback to: AliceMillerAudio+listener@gmail.com I would love to hear from you! Andra nördämnen, såsom Tv-serierna The Flash, Constantine och Forever togs upp. The title of today's talk is "The Longest Journey with the Sweetest Destination." The long journey is to a profound realization, to see what our beliefs really are, to learn where our resistance or false beliefs are. Every feeling is a belief. When we have a negative feeling, we need to stay with it. Negative feelings can lead us to the truth of what we believe---our own internal life, the sum of the beliefs we have, even those that are false. "We must be willing to look at a thing until it has no power over us." -- Ernest Holmes

Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross go on at length about The Longest Journey. The worlds are in peril, and it’s up to April Ryan to fulfill the prophecies and team up with a talking bird to maintain the Balance. The Longest Journey is the magnum opus (emphasis on magnum) of the adventure genre, and we talk about every last minute of it.
