Art was athletic in his younger years, playing basketball and practicing judo. He was a lifeguard at Misquamicut Beach in the '50s, and helped rescue people during Hurricane Carol in '54. He was a keen bowler, both in-person and on the Wii, putting away many perfect games. He tried his hand at golf -most famously his shot off the tee on the 5th hole at Pond View -which somehow flew backwards and broke a window in a home behind the tee. Art was quite the pool-shark, giving folks at the Senior Center a run for their money. Art was a family man-always making sure everyone was taken care of, and was always available for sage advice and kind words. His family loved him fiercely and will miss him always.  He leaves his wife of 64 years, son, daughter and grand-daughter. Born in Westerly, He lived a full and blessed life. Antonio graduated from Westerly High School and then went to to work at the Westerly Sun for 53 years with a two-year break to serve in the U.S. Army and four years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He met the love of his life, Carolyn and made her his bride. They enjoyed 58 years together dancing, traveling, raising their family and sharing their faith at the Immaculate Conception Church. His customers at the Westerly Sun loved to see him come and they always knew they would get a corny joke. The community loved to hear him on Pizza Lady commercials on WBLQ. He was an avid Red Sox fan and played softball as a pitcher for many years in the Men's Softball League. He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Feast Committee for 62 years as well as the Calabrese Club.  Antonio gave so much of himself by volunteering at South County Community Action and also cooked and delivered many meals to those in need. He was particularly known for his sausage muffins and eggplant parmesan. McQuade's Marketplace will certainly miss his daily visits. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his famous odes. He leaves his children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, life-long friends, and his faithful canine best friend Sally. Stoehr's appointment as coach was announced in an email Thursday morning by Westerly athletic director Jamey Vetelino. He replaces Duane Maranda, who left the team to join Prout. Maranda and a few great asst, coaches, coached Westerly for four years, and the Bulldogs qualified for the postseason in all four of his seasons, but couldn’t win a tittle. Stoehr, who has lived in Westerly for more than 30 years, brings an extensive football resume with him.
