On episode 2 of the IYE Music podcast, Ady Hanson interviewed Silvi as he shined a light on her music so far. Despite having only played her first live show just over a year ago in February 2022, SILVI has made great strides in just over twelve months. That's thanks in no small part to being the owner of a voice that's so powerful and emotive it stops you in your tracks. Within her first year of live shows, Scottish singer, songwriter and spoken word artist SILVI has headlined the iconic King Tuts in Glasgow and sold out Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh, starred in a BBC iPlayer documentary about the grassroots music scene in West Lothian and had her single "Burning" crowned ‘Song Of The Year' at the Weekender Awards, as well as played throughout ZARA stores across the world and featured on BBC One's Football Focus. So far in 2023, Silvi has showcased as a Wide Days artist and has sold out 2 more headline shows in Aberdeen and Glasgow. As well as Scottish appearances, Silvi is headlining The Sessions festival in Manchester after being on the bill for this year's Stockton Calling festival and 'Tunespotting' in Oxford's The Bullingdon. Silvi showcased virtually in Mexico to an online audience of 1.6 million at Festival Marvin Gateway. Her latest release “Don't wanna love again” was BBC radio Scotland's track of the week in May. Playlist: Paul Renaud - The Snuts
The Snuts are a compelling force in the British rock music scene, hailing from Whitburn, West Lothian, Scotland. Formed in 2016, the four-piece band consists of Jack Cochrane (vocals/guitar), Joe McGillveray (guitar), Callum Wilson (bass), and Jordan Mackay (drums). Known for their infectious blend of indie rock and post-punk revival, they bring raw energy, poignant lyricism, and dynamic musical arrangements to the table. The Snuts made a significant splash with their debut album, ‘W.L.', released in 2021, which topped the UK Albums Chart, making them the first Scottish band in 14 years to achieve this feat with a debut album. Their work is distinguished by its evocative storytelling, where narratives of youth, love, and loss are enshrined in soaring choruses and rousing guitar riffs. They've managed to carve out a unique space in the contemporary rock scene, one that pays homage to the past while pushing boundaries in the present.

In this weeks podcast I am talking to Hannah Bardell, Member of Parliament for the Livingston constituency. Hannah is also one of my oldest friends and has been on quite a journey from a small-town in West Lothian to a prominent female politician. Along the way there have been highs and lows. Terrorist attacks on Parliament while she and her team were locked down inside, working from Westminster with all the challenges that brings, BREXIT and some inspiring work on deaths that happen abroad. In 2015, Hannah came out to her friends and family and in 2016 follow this up by doing so professionally. This month is LGBT history month and so I wanted to ask Hannah on the podcast to talk about the interface between psychology and politics, her experiences of coming out and what's next for her. This was such a fun yet insightful conversation. Hope you enjoy listening.
Nick and Joe are back a week later than planned because poor old Joe lost his voice. But thankfully it has returned just in time for him to belt out some carols and, more importantly but less seasonally, talk about the far-right on this podcast. It's a show full of big stories this week as the pair begin by treading familiar podcast terrain: the continued links between Patriotic Alternative and the extreme far-right, in this case the Nordic Resistance Movement - a properly nasty bunch.Next they move onto a big story that came courtesy of HOPE not hate: a fascist in the Tory Party down in Kent. They keep turning up there, though heavens knows why…HOPE not hate torpedoed another nazi Blood & Honour gig, this time up in Bathgate in West Lothian. It was going to be a big one, but it ended the same way as all the others - with lots of dejected nazis and a good chunk of money down the drain too. Finally the pair talk about Kanye “Ye” West's disturbing appearance on the Alex Jones show and his continued descent into vicious and violent antisemitism, before discussing no-platform and Twitter more broadly. If we don't get another one in before the end of the year then have a great Christmas, thanks for listening.X—Prod. Ross Coutts is a man of many talents and one of his multiple roles is in local radio. We talk about his early days in hospital radio and how he seeks to give a platform to up and coming Scottish musicians. You'll even hear about an 11 year old Lewis Capaldi coming in and making an instant impression. We chat about the highly regarded Gig in The Goil music festival, one that Ross played a fundamental role in bringing to life, with impressive headliners, such as Gerry Cinnamon & The Snuts… And Ross gives some fascinating insight into the fabric of the West Lothian music scene, a relatively small place that seems to be a conveyor belt of the very best that Scotland has to offer.
