Youtube Amazon Baileygreymusic.comBioBailey Grey Emerges “Out From Under” with Jazzy, Honest, and Joyously Complex Debut“Out From Under,” the debut single from Love It All  Bailey Grey's first full-length album showcases the arrival of a fearless new voice in pop music. Fusing jazz, blues, and danceable pop with lyrical honesty and emotional intelligence, the track is a vibrant introduction to Bailey's musical world. With her warm, expressive vocals and genre-bending musicality, Grey creates a sound that's both refreshingly personal and artistically rich. What makes the song even more striking is the story behind it. Bailey wrote “Out From Under” while working nights as a host in an underground London bar disguised as a sex shop. “‘It said ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!' on the front,” she laughs, “but it was just a dive bar and restaurant. I was getting home at 3 or 4 in the morning, waking up late, and going back to work a few hours later. I felt low, burnt out, and stuck  but still trying to make time to create music and figure out my life.” The result: a song born of exhaustion, longing, and hope, shaped into a beautifully produced, timeless groove.Built on a rhythmic ticking motif that mirrors the pressure of time, “Out From Under” cleverly underscores its themes without being overbearing. Bailey's rim-click percussion ticks steadily beneath shifting tempos  racing forward one moment, slowing down the next  as she sings lines like:“Can I make the time go slow? / And get out from under?”That emotional layering  blending storytelling with sound design  is a hallmark of Love It All, a collection that dances across genres while remaining deeply introspective. Bailey draws inspiration from iconic female artists like Amy Winehouse, Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, and Dodie, while forging a voice unmistakably her own.“I get bored when I make the same kind of music,” Bailey explains. “So I zhuzh it up I blend genres, follow new sounds. I want the album to reflect all the spaces I've been creatively. Every song is a new lens.”A Journey From Stage to StudioOriginally from northern New Jersey, Bailey's artistic roots run deep. She began her career as a child actor in New York's musical theater scene, starring in the Broadway National Tour of Mary Poppins at age 10. Her credits include Stephen Schwartz's opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon and A Christmas Rose at Carnegie Hall alongside Jane Seymour. After high school, she studied musical theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and earned a master's degree from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. It was during the pandemic that Bailey began writing her own music in earnest. “Theater will always be a part of me,” she says, “but I needed to start telling my own stories.”Her songs aren't just lyrical  they're sensory. Bailey writes from the rhythms and sounds of her surroundings. “I live in a soundscape,” she says. “There's a rhythm in everything a bus passing by, birds outside the window, cars rushing past  and I try to build those moments into the music.”On Love It All, that soundscape comes to life:“When I Fall” features a bass ukulele and soprano uke.“Easy,” the closing track, was recorded near an open London window you can hear the distant hum of buses and passing voices. The title track, “Love It All,” is a meditation on finding wonder amid struggle: “I fall in love with every song that I hear / Polyrhythmic harmonies reflect my atmosphere.”She adores that lyric for two reasons: “I've never heard anyone use ‘polyrhythm' in a lyric,” she notes. “And it's not just clever  it's how I actually experience the world.”Independent, Unfiltered, and AuthenticAfter returning to the U.S., Bailey made the bold decision to part ways with her label and release Love It Alll independently. “I was a child actor, and for years I had to fit into a box  play characters in other people's stories. Now, I finally get to share mine.”With “Out From Under,” Bailey Grey arrives not just as a singer-songwriter, but as a fully realized artist  one who transforms the ache of burnout and the hum of everyday life into vibrant, resonant music. This is music that grooves, heals, and surprises  a debut that marks the beginning of an exciting, genre-defying journey.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Elaine chats with actor, writer, Molly Geddes We talk about Molly's short film Where We Stop which was created to be part of an initiative for Glasgow Girls Club. The initiative aims to raise awareness of Violence Against Women and Girls among young women aged 16-21 in Glasgow as well as highlight information about the available support services. We also chat about being a survivor and how it feels moving forward. TW for this episode discussion of coercive control You can watch Where we Stop here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoxPV6u--uA&t=6s Glasgow Girls Club: https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/11121/Glaswegian-Girl-Made-Multi-Media-Campaign-to-Combat-Violence-Against-Women-and-Girls-launches-today Where We Stop Is this your stop pal?' Sophie gets the bus every day. Same seats, same route. With pals, on her own, from work, to college- She never misses her stop. After getting into her first relationship with Jack, who joins her on the bus, she could stay on with him all day. Sophie's journeys are filled with love, banter and friendship as we see glimpses into the everyday life of a young woman in Glasgow. However, as we catch more and more glances into Sophie's life, something doesn't feel right. We begin to see the signs of a relationship that has become abusive- and a bus that seems impossible to get off. ‘Where we stop' is a film that subtly highlights forms of violence against women and girls and the often-overlooked early signs of domestic abuse. Born from a lack of media that specifically centres young women's experience of domestic abuse, this film aims to challenge the misconception that the issue primarily affect older women. Created in collaboration with young women across Glasgow, and inspired by the writer's own experiences, it is a film created to open eyes and start conversations. Molly Geddes Molly Geddes is an actor, writer and Graduate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is also the writer of new short social impact film ‘Where We Stop', a piece of work that aims to engage young women on the topic of Violence Against Women and Girls. As a young woman, Molly experienced intimate relationship abuse firsthand and knows how isolating navigating an experience like this can be. Molly's main interest for creating this film was the lack of media around intimate relationship abuse, that specifically centred young women. She felt there was little to no media around this topic that resonated with her, and so she thought it was important to create something that can help other young women in the situation she found herself in. Using her own experiences and research from focus groups Molly created ‘Where we stop'. This is her first time writing for screen, having previously only written for theatre. Molly is buzzing to be part of this project especially with the unwavering support of the Glasgow Girls Club, a group she has been a part of since she was 14 years old. This is a massive full circle moment for Molly, both personally and professionally, and to see the impact this process has already had on young women is magic. About Adam Woolf For many years Adam Woolf enjoyed a full-time career as a performing musician working with the very best classical music ensembles, festivals and orchestras around the globe. He complemented this by teaching at world-leading institutions around Europe. as professor of Historical Performance and Baroque Trombone at London's Royal Academy of Music, The Conservatoire of Utrecht, Royal Conservatoire of Brussels and the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Adam is proud to have had a part in the development of many fantastic musicians in today's classical music scene. As a performer, Adam played with top orchestras in the world of period-instrument performance, notably as first trombone with Sir John Eliot Gardiner's English Baroque Soloists, a member of His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts, and the Caecilia-Concert. Alongside this, he continued playing the modern instrument with London-based ensemble Mardi Brass and other groups. His love of jazz and contemporary music led to the creation of new compositions and experimental projects. Adam has recorded over 100 CDs and DVDs, among which he am proud to count two solo projects, Songs Without Words and The Food of Love. Songs Without Words was the first full length CD to focus on the trombone as a solo instrument exclusively in music from the 16th and 17th centuries. Alongside his output of recordings, some of which are available via this website, he also published various books which focus on historical performance practise on the trombone, also available here.

Vocal Massage and Laryngeal Manual Therapist Kate Valentine is today's guest. Kate, who runs her own treatment space called Valentine Voice Care, discusses how to spot the signs your student may have vocal health issues and how to prevent vocal injury. KEY TAKEAWAYS Whilst enjoying a successful career as a principal artist on the international operatic stage , Kate sustained a vocal injury: a career-defining moment which sparked a fascination with vocal health, rehabilitation, and the long-term benefits of manual therapy for voice. Kate noticed that, among other things, she was having to take a long time to fully recover after a vocal performance. That is such an easy red flag we can identify as a singing teacher.  Kate's onboarding process involves asking a lot of questions so she gets to know people and their voices as well as she can. It's so important to make students aware of their own voice because then they can identify the problems.  As well as running her own ‘Valentine Voice Care' treatment spaces in Seaford and Glasgow, and managing a busy client list including English National Opera, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Voces8, and The Dunedin Consort, Kate also works with two multidisciplinary voice teams:  the Voice Care Centre (London) and Clyde Consulting Rooms (Glasgow). Welcome to the final episode in this series of Bittersweet Symphony, a podcast about the bitter, sweet and bittersweet memories and experiences of classical musicians during the pandemic. Hosted and produced by me, Cliodhna Ryan, a violinist, it's an intimate and heart-warming exploration of the human spirit. My final guest is Emma Roche, a Glasgow-based freelance flautist, who is a regular in the Irish Chamber Orchestra. This means I'm lucky enough to call her a dear colleague. She shares her bitter experience of being terrified and alone in the hospital with her newborn son Charlie. Her sweet memories are of the community spirit and support she found in her neighbourhood in Glasgow, and of bringing Charlie back to Cork to meet her Mum for the first time. Her bittersweet is her first day back at work. She felt a rush of excitement as she heard the oboe give an A. The glorious sound of the orchestra tuning up gave her that thrill we all know so well. This was followed by the nightmare of trying to make music together while so far apart. This interview was recorded in September 2021. Emma was born in Cork and was a student at the Cork School of Music until she moved to Glasgow in 1995 to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She currently plays with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and also enjoys a busy freelance career as an orchestral player, performing with Scottish Ballet, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Improvisation is an important and regular part of her musical life. She is a founder member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with whom she loves playing with, in both large and small groups. As well as teaching, she also delivers workshops and masterclasses for musicians of all ages through her work with GIO and Children's Classic Concerts. Well I Know Now with Pippa Kelly

Matthew Seager's play, In Other Words, distils dementia – what it is to have it, what it is to watch someone you love being lost to it – into just 75 minutes, pulling its audience into the emotional turmoil that unfailingly accompanies this cruel condition. Matthew told me that he'd been inspired to write it after visiting a dementia care home during his drama studies at Leeds university. For one module, students could decide which aspects of the performative process they wanted to focus on: Matt chose care homes and applied theatre. He visited Berkeley Court care home and researched which of the senses triggered the most powerful reactions and memories in people living with dementia. Each sensory stimulation session was bookended with music that might mean something to the residents; Matt witnessed seemingly lost individuals who could no longer speak stand up and sing every word of songs connecting them to their early life. The 21-year-old Matthew was blown away by what he'd seen and vowed one day to use his experiences creatively – while continuing his training at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland he began working on In Other Words. It debuted in 2017 at Islington's Hope Theatre and I found it very moving to watch. With virtually no props and a scattering of evocative songs the couple switch between life before and life after, Arthur's condition takes hold. The play powerfully conveys the ups and downs, the flaming rows and never-ending confusion and grief of a married couple experiencing dementia together. The saving grace is their song, Sinatra's Fly Me to the Moon, which never loses its magic for Arthur and when things get too much – when, as Arthur puts it, “It feels like I am breaking”, the tune's familiar phrases and rhythms pull him back from the brink, and reveal the tenderness and love that still exist between him and Jane. I can do no better to sum up the play's profound impact on its audience than quote from one theatre-goer, who said,“Thank you for letting me finally cry over the death of my beautiful nan. She had vascular dementia and Alzheimer's and I cared for her for two years. After she died, I never cried. I think the pain and loss traumatised me so much. That was until I saw the show tonight. When Arthur was in his advanced stages and the earphones were put in and the music played, that's when the tears began to flow. It made me feel again. It felt so good to cry. Your play did that to me. It seemed to unlock all the pain in me. I didn't know theatre could be so powerful.”.The show has been staged in Scotland and Ireland, where it scooped multiple awards in the All Ireland One Act Finals. In the last few years, of course, the pandemic has shut our theatres and halted performances. Two tours of In Other Words had to be cancelled. Undaunted, Matthew translated the play into a film, contacting cinematographers and photography directors he felt would relate to the work.Launched online last autumn it immediately garnered a five star review. It is now available to watch on YouTube, where it is being offered as part of the music and dementia charity Playlist for Life's higher educational e-learning initiative. The rights have been purchased for a French language production opening at the Avignon festival later this year. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
