Episode 36-Plant Spirit Medicine by Eliot Cowan

Reads and Weeds

We have this Women's Circle, a group of women connected through the cannabis industry that supports each other. We were going to have a big ole gathering with weed and food to talk about this book. Eliot Cowan writes about his long journey to understanding the mystery of how plant spirits heal. It was affirming to us to hear the stories of the healers. We couldn't hold the gathering of course but four of us met on Zoom, new reader Brandi Alexander!!! and loved the book. The wonderful and wise Merri Walters from Great Lakes Sacred Essences of Ann Arbor joined us, who is like a walking talking version of the book. Now is the time for everyone to read this and to remember how we are alllll connected. The karmic balance of the world needs our attention, outside and inside of our bodies. This should be required reading right now to get our minds ready for a shift towards looking at healing in a 'whole new'-OLD-way. I've been embracing this mystery and trying to get to know the plants around me much better. Thank you plants.

Ceremonies and Sacred Spaces can be difficult to navigate for an empath, especially when it comes time to receive from (rather than facilitate) these experiences. Sora and Lola will help you notice any patterns of spiritual bypassing, hidden ego motivations, disempowering hierarchies, and rescuing when it comes to being in circle with others. After listening, you'll have clear guidelines on how to make the most of any retreats, workshops, or circles you attend AND how to show up even more powerfully as a leader in your own spaces. Sora Surya No is a sacred space holder, strategy alchemist, transformative business coach, corporate leadership consultant, powerful medicine woman, business healer, international retreat leader, inspirational speaker, fire igniter, heart whisperer, and world traveler. She is the producer of Sacred Business Podcast, a co-producer of Priestess TV and the author of the Stay Sacred Journal which you can purchase on Amazon. Sora works with sovereign spiritual women entrepreneurs to incorporate the art of feeling sacred into their business through earth-based practices. Sora loves to help people embrace their medicine while sitting in ceremony. She leads highly successful individuals and groups through powerful experiences in her mastermind, on retreats, and from the stage. Sora blends real world experience with mystical transformation, ritualistic practices, inner reflection, conscious communication, and innovative circle work to help soulful leaders create great impact within their communities. Her mission is to remind spiritual women leaders that they have an equitable place in entrepreneurship.

To join the next free writing challenge, sign up here: bit.ly/junewritingchallenge On today's episode, I talk to Sheila Horrell. She has been drumming for the last 30 years, ever since being introduced to the primal magic of the drum by master percussionist Ubaka Hill. After studying percussion with various drummers here and internationally, she has been facilitating workshops and Drum Circles for many groups in Southwestern Ontario, including schools, universities, camps, nursing homes, conferences and agencies. The experience of introducing new drummers to the ease and joy of music making with the drum has been a prime motivator for Sheila's continued success.  There is nothing like witnessing someone relaxing into their own rhythm and having fun contributing to the music of the whole drumming community. As well as facilitating drumming, Sheila is also a member of percussion groups in London - including "The London Groove Collective", a group which weaves melody (sax and keyboard) with various percussion instruments to create everything from jazz fusion to ambient soundscapes.   As well she sings and plays with WomenSpiritSong choir, and Joyful Noise choir.  Sheila is a proud volunteer at My Sister's Place where weekly drumming on a Monday morning gets the week off to a fine start,  and also volunteers with the Grand Theatre, the Women's Circle at Brescia and Heart-Links, a small London NGO which walks in solidarity with a community of women and children in the desert regions of Northern Peru.
