Instead of getting immediate medical treatment for those civilians who were not killed instantly, reports indicate that the special forces personnel focused on destroying evidence of their crime, going so far as to dig the bullets out of the bodies. The public relations team under McChrystal's command fought for weeks to obscure the truth. They lied about finding the women dead when they arrived. They smeared journalists who questioned their initial story. On April 4, they finally admitted to killing all of the innocent victims, including the women. Now, after all of this outrageous behavior, General McChrystal says we should trust his forces to investigate themselves. That's ludicrous.

On Tuesday morning, your voice was heard in the United States House of Representatives.Over 100,000 people signed the petition from Brave New Foundation, Credo Mobile and True Majority calling on Congress to vote against any bill to fund troop escalation in Afghanistan. Yesterday, Congressman Alan Grayson read the petition aloud from the House floor, asking his colleagues to vote NO.Rep. Grayson’s action was a step forward in demonstrating to Congress our opposition to the war. But we’re far from achieving the groundswell we need to bring the war to an end. The American people overwhelmingly voted last year for a change in our national priorities to put the interests of ordinary people ahead of the greed of Wall Street and the wealthy few. What the American people did not bargain for was another four years for one of the key architects of the Bush economy.Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, in charge of the central bank since 2006, could have demanded that Wall Street provide adequate credit to small and medium-sized businesses to create decent-paying jobs in a productive economy, but he did not.He could have insisted that large bailed-out banks end the usurious practice of charging interest rates of 30 percent or more on credit cards, but he did not. He could have broken up too-big-to-fail financial institutions that took Federal Reserve assistance, but he did not.

President Obama has decided to send more than 30,000 extra troops to Afghanistan, at a cost of more than $100 billion/year. But America cannot afford a war that does not make us safer, and Congress has the power to stop the escalation.
