There is nothing more frustrating than watching your gymnast freeze on a skill they know how to do. One day it looks easy, and the next day, fear and hesitation take over. It can leave both of you confused and unsure how to help.In this week's episode of the PerformHappy Podcast, I talk about the things that actually make mental blocks worse and what to do instead. Around this time of year, I call it Nervous November because fears seem to grow stronger and confidence can feel shaky. The good news is that there are small changes that make a big difference.The first mistake to stop making is taking long breaks from the skill. Avoiding it feels easier, but it only keeps the fear alive. Instead, find a safe version of the skill and work there. Confidence grows when your gymnast can stretch their comfort zone without feeling overwhelmed.The second thing to stop doing is trying to trick the brain. Fear is not something to fight or ignore. It is the brain's way of saying, “Let's slow down and check if this is safe.” When you listen to that signal and take small steps forward, progress comes faster.Bribes and threats do not work either. Saying things like “You can't leave until you do it” or offering a reward adds pressure. Mental blocks are not a motivation problem. Your gymnast already wants it. More than 300 people in Auckland have been ordered to re-sit their practical driving tests. It followed allegations VTNZ officers took money in return for giving passes. Five officers at VTNZ's Highbrook branch have been sacked and police have launched an investigation into potential fraud. The wrongdoing's alleged to have taken place over a few years. President of the Institute of Driver Educators Mark Revill-Johnson told Mike Hosking there can't be any faith in the results of the tests. When an Intransigent Resistance Meets an Immovable Object – EU Trade Team Accepting Baseline Tariffs The intransigent European Union are hitting a dead end with immovable Trump on the issue of tariffs.  The resulting dynamic is what we would expect given 75 years of the Marshall Plan (European Recovery Plan) as part of the EU's only point of reference. In order for the EU to maintain their socialistic form of government, they need to continue the economic benefits from one-way tariffs that exploits the American consumer market.  President Trump's plan to force reciprocity is against their entire economic foundation.  The EU simply cannot fathom life without the status quo. In many ways the EU is in the same position as Canada. From their perspective, economic reciprocity is not sustainable; they would have to change their social compacts. This is the core of the conflict. The EU trade delegation hit a brick wall in Washington DC, as the U.S. trade team reiterated the baseline tariffs are not something within the negotiation dynamic. The EU has no power in this dynamic beyond their purchasing power, and if the EU doesn't want to level the purchasing – thereby maintaining a trade deficit, then Trump will equalize the financial imbalance with tariffs.
