But when asked the number of civilian casualties the answer is invariably “just one.” And although Jennie Wade, was in fact, the only civilian killed during the actual battle, there are others who died as a direct result of the fighting. A number of other civilians were wounded, and still others were taken prisoner. Depending on how you count, there are as many as 30 civilian casualties.
